Dukla! The blues hit pretty hard after Spain as if what do we do now, where do we go? So we booked a trip to Prague renowned for the best beer in Europe, Central Europe's biggest nightclub and the women were apparently not too shabby either - it seemed a good choice! Add to this the Bloody Beetroot's were playing the first night we arrived it was a recipe for success! A morning pint and breakfast in Bristol a short flight to Prague and we had arrived. The metro system was good and took us 40 minutes to arrive at our very good hostel Czech Inn. After a quick freshen up happy hour in the bar for £1 a pint was fantastic and the beer was smooth! We then caught the tram smashed back some cultural ... read more
Back on the Road Again! The early night in Spain was a good call, we were felling at least 40% waking up and pulled down the tent and were ready to go in decent time, we were back on the road again! A five hour mission to Madrid by this time we realised everything was jambon (ham) flavour and came with a crusty role, lunch in the service station was chorizo omelette in a roll with some jambon crisps. The main motorway into Madrid was busy, just like Madrid you knew you were back in the hustle and bustle where life moved that little bit quick, cars everywhere cutting each other up, horns, city life! After finding our bearing we booked into a basic hostel and proceeded to once again get on the smash. The night-life ... read more
Toro, Toro! The summer was upon us apparently in the UK, wind rain and grey skies so the break with two of my closest friends around north and central Spain for ten days was very welcomed. We had hired a car and planned to drive from Girona to Pamplona enjoy the running of the bulls (tick off my to do list) before heading down to Madrid, Valencia before the drive up the coast to Girona and home. After a traditional morning pint in Bristol Airport we had landed in Girona picked up our car and were on the road, Steve holding the stick and Ben navigating up top leaving me to doze in the back. A five hour drive through Zaragoza and we had arrived in Pamplona greeted by a city completed adouring the red and ... read more
Kroegen Moegen, KROEGEN MOEGEN! Crashing out watching the football one hung-over Sunday afternoon after Lithuania Spackers and I were looking at getting back to Eastern Europe after an awesome time in Lithuania. The prices to Estonia weren't too great and we Stumbled upon a gem of a deal to Stockholm. Six weeks later we were off to explore the Scandinavian wonders and the nightlife. Chapter 1 was SE Asia, Chapter 2 was Oz and NZ, this is chapter 3 Europe. Being 27 the plan is too smash round Europe over the next few years and hit up all the party spots until 30 then our mecca (Chapter 4) of a South American trip to the home of football and the World Cup in Brazil. As I get older will explore the more natural beauties but while ... read more
BOO YA! I'd been home seven months people said I'd be straight back on the plane looking for a new adventure dreaming of the ozzie babes, beaches and the care-free lifestyle, I won't lie it crossed my mind, teaching in South Korea for easy money exploring the new cultures of the east Japan, China, wherever, and carrying on the rolling stone lifestyle was a definite pull! But it wasn't real there is only so long you can ignore your head and listen to the crazy heart. Don't get my wrong I'm not done, nowhere near, just setting down some markers for a while. It took me six months a lot of reminiscing, feeling sorry for myself in bed, hours on call of duty but the turn of the new year I finally got to grips with reality. ... read more
And now the end is near and I face the final curtain.........(to travel don't worry I'm not suicidal!) Two and a half years ago one big dopey Welshman with big grin and half a plan set out to see the world, challenge himself and see some amazing places and meet some of the crazy happy characters of the world. Well this is my last week........ I couldn't finish in the cold of New Zealand and I heard good tings about Samoa so at a coin toss between that and Fiji Samoa it was! The frfiendliness of the locals was all I was hearing about so after two days travel from Queenstown to Chritchurch then to Auckland before arriving late in Samoa a day earlier than I had left! (The international date line which would late casue ... read more
Gut en Tag! So after an early 6 o'clock start we took the ferry over to Picton taking in the sites of the Malborough sounds on the way to th eMalborough Wineries - seemed a good a place to start the south as any! This consisted of vinyard after vinyard which equated to Jan and I pretending to know about wine and trying every eine to compare, it would be fair to say we were quite merry and I can now say a fan of a good Sav Blanc! After a rest we headed for Nelson for the night a sleepy little northern town. The next morning was supposed to be an early start but ended up us taking a little longer and settled for seeing Golden Bay and Takaka or the day whih wass beautiful ... read more
Sweet as brother and sisters from other mothers! It came to an end 2 years in Oz. What a time what a place what great people, emotionally I didn't know where I was. I strolled along South bank on my own a lot in the last few weeks and took in the bright orange glow of the sun and though how much I would miss these blue skies and brilliant people. Yet I was excited for New Zealand, excited I was that little bit closer to those great friends and family in the diff - it had been so long that I had seen. I questioned how it would be like traveling solo again after the most fantastic last year traveling with Leigh Lemon partners in crime. But when it came to it, goodbyes were quick ... read more
All aboard - the stray bus! An early start ensued as I boarded the bus with 15 other backpackers they all seemed nice but lacked a little crazy for my liking. After picking up supplies we were on the way to Hahai where we had a nice stroll round Cathedral cove and later a BBQ and a visit to the hot springs lying in a boiling puddle in the middle of winter - an odd experience bit like a crap bath! After this we headed to Raglan which I instantly fell in love with a sleepy surf town in the country with laid back surfer hippy types in a lodge in the forest a beautiful retreat. Went on a cycle to the city and met some locals and some cracking fish and chips and played some ... read more
I love the feeling when we lift off! Soooooo Leigh and I were back in Melbourne December 18th 2009. The week previous I was putting off callig my mother as I was in Byron Bay penniless and not telling her I could be home for christmas. The thought had crossed my mind - I'd had a crazy great time on Daydream I needed to detox and relax, I missed my family, friends and football- maybe it was time? But then after a week and the novelty of home wore off what then? I'd want to go again away from the mundane everyday work of the leisure centre not really going anywhere treading water with life. Or I could stay in Melbourne, get a job, save, the australian open, ,melbourne grand prix, comedy fest was on and ... read more
