Prague, Paris, Nice & Venice The last place which was blogged about was Berlin. After Berlin we took the train to Prague in the Czech Republic. The thing we mostly had to come accustomed was the Czech currency, the Kroun. One Euro (1.40 CAD) was worth about 25 Czech Krona. Prague has a history which has been untouched by both World Wars. It is also hid within hills which creates some very nice views. The most interesting part of the city is the King Charles IV Bridge which crosses the Vltava River. While there we also tried to go to a EuroCup qualifying game between the Czech Republic and Scotland, but the game ended up being sold out. The next city was Paris. There was no direct train which we could take from Prague to ... read more

Oktoberfest & Berlin This entry covers from September 27th to October 6th. In this time we went to Munich for the Oktoberfest Celebrations and then to Berlin. Oktoberfest in Munich is a must do. Most of the action was at the fairgrounds where each of the major German Breweries had their own tent which held anywhere from 5000 to 6000 people. The doors to each tent opend at around 9 am and the tent would fill up by 11 am. The only drink available was beer in a 1 litre stein. Most people dressed up in the traditional Laederhosen. Our hostel was a giant tent about a 15 minute tram ride and a 15 minute walk to the fairgrounds. Also while in Munich, we went out of the city to the Concentration Camp of Dachau. Although ... read more

Amsterdam The second half of Edinburgh was going on a ghost tour of Edinburgh and out to the town of St. Andrews. It was Sunday so we were allowed to walk the old course and went through the golf history museum. Yes we arrived safely into Amsterdam Schipol Airport around 8 pm local time. After wandering aimlessly for half an hour we finally found our hostel the "Flying Pig". The hostel is quite close to many attractions as well as a good party scene (not that we did any partying). The first day was laundry and settling into the city. One thing which took alot of getting used to was crossing the street and any general walking. The majority of the population ride bikes (they own the road), the tram is always running and you ... read more

Second Half of Dublin, First Half of Edinburgh Hello from Edinburgh Sorry for the delay in updating the blog. Dublin is a very nice city with tonnes of history. In order to get to Ireland we took a train across the UK from London to the sea port in the North East part of England called Holyhead. From here we took the ferry across to the Port of Dublin (about a 3 hour trip). We arrived in Dublin around 6:30 am so we had to wait until 2:30 pm to check into the Hostel. The hostel is located in an area right off the River Liffey called Temple Bar. The area is full of pubs ands small restaurants. On the second day we took a tour through the original Guiness Storehouse, which first opened in ... read more

The Beginning of London The flight from Montreal to Brussels was a little under 7 hours long. Our plane from Montreal was delayed not quite an hour, but the layover in Brussels was only an hour and a bit long. This meant that we barely made the plane to London and our baggage did not come with us. So we were without luggage for the first two days until we finally went to the airport to get it once it came to London. The hostel we are staying at is called The Generator. The other day we went down to Hyde park and Parliament Square. Here we saw Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben (Not as big as you would think but really nice.) These were only self-guided tours just to get a feel for ... read more

Start of the Trip * The trip starts off in Montreal, Quebec. We arrived at the airport around 2pm local time due to a delay in the flight from Regina. We then took the bus from the airport to our Hostel which is located in the heart of downtown near old Montreal, the Bell Centre, rue la St. Laurent and the harbour. The hostel is call HI-Montreal. After check-in we settled in the room and went for a walk to explore downtown. That night there was a festival on Crescent street in celecrations of NASCAR this weekend. * Day two had us walking around downtown again, this time going down to the Bell Centre, where we toured the Montreal Canadiens Hall of Fame. During the night we were treated to a Roughrider loss at a pub ... read more
