fab - Fab Braun

Fab Braun I'm from the east of Switzerland.
I like travelling a lot. Beside my studies(BSc in electronic engineering) I often spend time in the mountains.
I ride my mountain bike, my snowboard, go hiking or jogging. It always depends on the weather.

Üntschenspitze
The destination of this hike.
This mountain is located in the region called "Bregenzerwald" where we already spent some winter holidays. We've always wanted to climb this mountain and tried once in autumn but there was too much snow. This year there is so little snow that we were able to hike up with just about 20 centimetres of snow. We took the snowshoes with us in vain. It wasn't necessary to wear them during the whole trip. We've had enough sun and a lot of wind and cold on the summit. The view up there is spectacular. If you ever have the chance to go [View Full Entry]

Pizol by Snowshoes

Rhine Valley
Rhine Valley
As you can see our home towns were totally covered with fog.
This year on Christmas Eve our valley was totally covered with fog. We wanted to see some sunshine so we've decided to go for a walk with our snowshoes. Because there wasn't enough snow we left our snowboard at home. That's why we went down the mountain by chair lift instead of riding down with our snowboards. From the mountain station of the first gondola called "Furt" (1522m a.s.l.) we walked up to the "Pizolhütte" (2227m a.s.l.). There was a lot of sun up there but as I mentioned before just a few snow. This day we left Penticton and set one foot onto the US ground near Osoyoos - just for fun. Afterwards we drove back to Vancouver. Before going back to our host families we took a ride to Deep Cove and Mount Seymour. [View Full Entry]

Osoyoos

This was the shortest car trip out of all, thus we arrived very early in Penticton. We made some sightseeing in the morning and realized that this city is rather calm and a lot of retirees are living there. In the afternoon we picked our backpacks and walked along Okanagan Lake to the nearest winery. There we tried some nice wines and bought some of them as additional souvenirs. In the evening we accidentally met our German hiking friends and had a nice dinner together. [View Full Entry]

Before leaving Revelstoke in the morning we drove up to Mount Revelstoke and enjoyed the view from up there. We went ahead toward Okanagan Valley. In Vernon we were looking for the Youth Hostel in vain - it was closed down. So we went on to Kelowna and enjoyed the sunshine on the nearby hill. [View Full Entry]

The number of tourist shops in this town is incredible. The weather was bad this day so we took the chance and bought some touristy souvenirs for our family and relatives.
This day we were a bit exhausted of yesterdays hike. We did some souvenir shopping before the long car journey to Revelstoke. [View Full Entry]

Road Trip - Day 4

North America » Canada » Alberta
Early in the morning we started a eight hour hike at Lake Louise. A German couple and an Australian guy, which we met at the youth hostel, accompanied us. In the first step we reached Saddleback Pass, where we made a short trip to Mount Fairview to enjoy the amazing view from up there. After descending back to Saddleback we continued the trip and reached Paradise Valley. Due to time pressure we couldn't continue our trip as planned to Sentinel Pass and Moraine Lake. We had to short and walk back to Lake Louise through Paradise Valley. In the evening Christian [View Full Entry]

Look at this: MINUS 10 degrees Celsius in the morning. Believe me it was definitely not warm during the night. We as Swiss citizens are used to cold temperatures but not at the beginning of October.... [more]
After a cold night we woke up very early and walked to the foot of Mount Edith Cavell. There are three glaciers. The melted glacier water formed the Cavell Pond. This tiny lake was surrounded by big Ice Rocks. Before leaving the Edith Cavell area we had a look at the Cavell Lake. A totally amazing place! Then we drove towards today's destination Lake Louise. Before arriving at the Columbia Icefield glacier we visited two waterfalls on the way: Athabasca Falls and Sunwapta Falls. [View Full Entry]

Road Trip - Day 2

North America » Canada » Alberta
This day we left Blue River very early so we were able to enter Jesper National park by a reasonable time. After a bit of sightseeing in Jasper we drove to the Miette Hotsprings where we wanted to do a short hike. Because there was already a bit of snow and dawn was coming soon we decided to take a swim a the Miette Hot Springs. The springs were completely different from those we expected. There were just two small and crowded pools with some hot water in them. Nothing special. At the late afternoon we arrived at the HI hostel [View Full Entry]

Together with my Swiss friend Christian I traveled around in British Columbia by car. We only had eight days for this trip. Althought nearly the half of the trip was driving the car (we drove about 2700 kilometers), we enjoyed our trip very much. We visited Jasper National Park - Banff National Park - Okanagan Valley. At the first day of our road trip we left Vancouver downtown in the early mornig and drove to Hope - Fraser Canyon - Kamloops - Blue River. We stopped there in the late evening and relaxed from the exhausting journey. [View Full Entry]
