Hello...just catching up after 4 days in humid buzzing Bangkok... We caught a bus on the 20th (that was 5 hours) to the "nearby" town ofTtrat in the southeast of thailand, quite near to the Cambodian border. It was quite a shock to see hardly any tourists there, and the ratio of Thais to farangs was so refreshing after khao san!! We managed to get ourselves into a lovely guesthouse that was amazingly 100baht a night(about $4 nz) and after checking out the spectacular Trat night market, (and ez sweating and crying from some praticually hot chillies), settling into a night of James Bond in the "Pop Guesthouse" beergarden, and chating to some nice english guys. The next day was spent much the same, relaxing and me walking around the little side sts in the nice ... read more

Hallo alex here: Saddly we didnt make it to Czech:( It would have cost 250 Euro with trains and accommodation only for one day sightseeing, so its on the agenda next time for sure. We are currently in a student flat of Silvias 20yr old brother Andres, in Frankfurt. Andres is super lovely, and after spending a yr in texas, speaks awesome english. (Its cool, because hes not particulary enchanted with America, gives him and Ez lots of common ground). Spent the last 2 evenings drinking Becks and having no bed. But sleeping on the floor isnt too bad ... Frankfrut seems sofar way more commercial than Berlin, it has enormous storied buildings and loads of neon lights and not much old city charm, also diverse people of every race live here..V. cosmopoliton Wer'e both just ... read more

Even if 'y' and 'z' are the wrong way around on their keyboards - so if there are any back to front in this entry thats the cause! Well... Monday 6th was spent on a really comftable 4 hour bus ride and relitively smooth pickup from the bus station, and here we are in Berlin, staying with Jannis and his family (which we appreciate endlessly!) The Hansen family have an amazing house - probably closer to palace really! And for three days we are occupying an entire floor (one of 4!) It also dates back to about 1900 (and think the ChCh cathedral is about 130years old - not much in it!) Today Lex and I (Ez of course) did a looot of walking... Went all around the centre (centres actually) of Berlin - the central ... read more

Well we've been in Germany 5days!! Difficult bus ride here... over 24hours with lots of pointless waiting, and not sleeping! Borders are a pain... just getting back to almost sleep and everyone off the bus into the cold again while dogs search the bus and we wait in lines for passport control! Slight hicup with the Serbian leaving border... they had never seen a NZ p/port and as ours are relitivly new and don't have too many stamps, they were suspicious - thought that they could be fake etc! However we arrived safe (but tired - espically me - ez - as I didn't get any sleep the night before we left either!) Silvia (Zoki's latest wife)picked us up from Numburg and back to Zoki and her little flat in Marktshogast - provincial town (about 1500 ... read more

We leave for Numburg Germany at 9.30am Morning of Sunday 29th October, from the capital Skopje (Скопје in Macedonian - which for some reason reminds me of "cronejay!") That means we have to be up and fully packed at 4.30am to catch the 5am bus the 250km to Skopje from Strumica!! Unfortunately Lex's package from home hasnt arrived... with uni enrollment forms etc... we have waited as long as we really can - the bus only goes once/week and we already only have 19 days in Germany... our flight out booked for 16th, from Frankfurt - Bangkok, Thailand! Anyway keep ya all posted when we can... Very very sorry to hear about Dixie!! Big Congratz on getting a job rob!! (applause!) Ditto to Katrina + Tom for making the front page of the star! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ... read more

alex here!!!!!!!!!! feeling 100% and thanks to all the nice people for all their cool comments! wow ez is busy playing puter games, and generously let me do a quick blog all on my lonesome, even at risk of mispelling. Just a few things that i really need to get out: expresso coffee (possibily spelt wrong) is quite lovely and my uncle clark would be proud, (although he drinks long black), also that for the last week i have not been allowed to (of all things) sit on cold stones or the ground even in the sun, due to my father and the aforementioned national paranoia about getting sick. I do not understand this, i was the type of child whose soles were permanantly black from running around, surely wearing a heavy coat in mild weather ... read more

Yes you can judge by the title that Lex is in completely recovered health... otherwise it would be something more serious!! Unfortunately just Ez here again as the internet was down at the internet cafe (comeon... what kinda internet cafe has net that goes down!!) and lex got a bit tired and headed off for bed! As i was saying... she made it through (with the help of a few wee pills called painkillers - marvels of modern science!) as she was in intense pain and we had a few sleepless nights and worried moments! Still not sure on what it was or what the cause was (though Zoki maintains it was sitting on coldstones which she did for all of a minute on a hot day!) Macedonians national sport seems to be: feeling cold and ... read more
