message to Cathy - From: Goodbye??
Hi Kristin, This message is actually for Cathy in CA. I hope she sees it. Cathy, I am Kristin's mom and I can't tell you how moved I have been to read your comments to Kristin. What a world traveling and the internet has opened up. To know that a stranger, someone else's mom was following her blog and was concerned about what happened to her was so moving. As you certainly know, it was so hard to stand back and let them fly off to another continent. Then to have to deal with her being sick from such a distance, and to hear about all the strange encounters, to have spotty phone connections, etc. well, now its hard to believe its over. We did it! I'm so glad I heard about most of these things "after the fact", aren't you! I hope you have a wonderful homecoming with your son and happy holidays together. Warmly, Renee p.s. Where in CA do you live, what area?

Good luck to you! - From: Goodbye??
Hi Everything Yellow! Just another comment from your fans in California. Good luck to you in the rest of your life's adventures. Thank you for your blog; it helped me get through my son's semester in Ghana. He will be leaving Ghana on Sunday, and like you has many thoughts, experiences and emotions to sort through. I can't wait to see him, just as I'm sure your family cannot wait to see you! Best Wishes, Cathy

Kristin, your email made me cry so many times that it has taken me all morning to read and bit, quit, read a bit and quit. I love that I can hear the difference from the girl who arrived in Ghana, so aware of the differences and so homesick and the very grown up reflective woman who is embracing those differences with such fondness. What an experience...I know I have said that a few times! Election night here was not the experience you had there but it was quite a night! Tears flowing everywhere. My phone was going crazy and for the most part there were just simple 'I can't believe it' statements through the tears. Your friend wrote a great blog statement...he should but it on Obama's website. There is a place for reactions. I think the majority of people here have embraced a certain level of hope that was sadly missing from this country. The morning after the election, people seemed to be walking with their heads a little higher and smiling a bit more. I can't wait to see what the next 4 years holds. Enjoy your next month!

Love your blog! - From: The idlenes of words to cover weeks
Hi Everything Yellow! My co-worker/friend and I have been following your blog faithfully. We started reading it back in August as my son was preparing for his semester abroad in Ghana with SIT. He is there right now, but since he has been traveling around the country so much, he doesn't write a blog; so we have been reading yours along with other students blogs. You have helped us gain a bit of an understanding of the country. I just thought you should know that you have fans here in California. We have worried about you when you've been sick and we have been happy to read about your awesome experiences! Thank you for writing!

Hey Kristin, you SOUND less energetic! So, think of it this way...the highs are now in the 50s and falling all the time. I would love to feel that sun and we haven't even gotten to November yet!!! It is going to be a tough winter for you given the temps that you will leave there coming home in December. Perry will need to work extra hard to keep you warm. I can't wait to see you gota and kpasta!!! How are you feeling?? Sorry about the camera.

so just when it seems like the entire blog is safe and fun (including the "spiritual pancakes"... do you think nanny has the recipe for those) you go and scare your mother with malaria stories. lion and zion and oceans and thatched roofs. sounds like a great weekend. glad to hear you are feeling fine, and i'm currently spending the weekend with renee, daniel, sherry, and nanny. cows, hayrides, and pumpkins so far :)

Sounds like you are back to being healthy and having some great adventures. You give such great discriptions...I can imagine just how beautiful it is. So, what are spiritual pancakes? Lion and Zion...remember those names when you have your first child! This sounds so peaceful compared to an overstuffed enclosed stadium with thousands of out of control people!!!! Stay healthy!

Mine is actually doing the exact same thing, so if I figure out a solution for it I'll be sure to let you know! Nanny, Aunt Renee, and my mom came to visit me in Erie a couple weeks ago and we were reading your post about your tro-tro adventures. Halarious! There were tears we were laughing so hard! my dear sweet niece... if you want to travel to Togo and not scare the pants off of your parents, perhaps you should downplay the dangers of its people :) so glad to hear that you are feeling better. steelers are winners and thank goodness they have a bye week b/c i'm pretty sure ben's arm is hurting!! also kendall has developed and perfected 3 different styles of walking depending, i suppose, on her mood and the message she wants to relay to those around her. april and the gang.

Kristin, staying put for a while sounds like a good idea. How are you cooking? Do you have access to a stove? Any chance you could take one of those kids home??? I know a little boy who really really would love to have a brother! Pauline is going to Nigeria next Thursday. If you remember, she and her husband adopted a little girl from Nigeria. Chinanza qill be 5 in March. They have adopted two more...a little girl and a little boy. They are weeks old and in the custody of her sister right now. Pauline will go and complete papers, but won't be able to leave with the babies. She will go back and pick them up in December and they will come home. Togo is probably wonderful, but the trip sounds a little scary. Always bring bribes. I have a friend from India and says that you can get anywhere in India with little effort and copies of Playboy!!! Are you feeling like yourself now...completely? Stay healthy and safe!

kristin, we hope you are doing well this week :) and pray for your health, safety, happiness, and a wonderful experience. kendall cries 75% of the day sometimes, jackson shaved the side of his hair above his ear with a beard trimmer, and buster has a bad knee and can barely climb stairs. from the perspective of the mother... its really annoying to hear anyone cry that much, buster weighs 75#, and thank goodness jackson didn't cut his head!! anyway the point is... i'm quite sure that elephants, and weird food in the night market, and tro-tros, and everything else is better than this :) love and miss you, april and the gang

Kristin, You are one brave lady. Not only was I proud to see you eating the banku, you were taking down that meal like you have been having it your entire life. I am glad to hear that you are doing well and enjoying Ghana. You know what's ironic, you have probably been to many more places in Ghana than I have. P.s. Have you tried guinea fowl khebabs? They are really good.

...and as for the economy...not so good. However it is very difficult to weed out what is real and what is political posturing right now. Plans in the works to fix some things, but the plans thus far don't really sound very sound. As a plan has not been agreed upon thus far many are expecting stocks to continue to slide until there is an agreed upon plan.

Wow, Kristin, your weekend sounds exactly like mine!!! Ok, maybe not. I am so amazed at the wonderful experiences you are having. Ed and I spent Thanksgiving one year with Pauline and her extended family. She made the soup for her mother and aunt who were visiting from Nigeria. I watched them eat it...very interesting. I did not eat it as I was pregnant at the time and Pauline suggested that I not! I hope your camera starts to work...the pictures were just wonderful.

mepe nkatee, especially in trail mix or ice cream :) and as far as i'm concerned, the only place to have any rhythm is in a dance club where its dark, loud with music, and has flashing lights. at least that's what i'm told since the dancing i do here at the house makes me look completely ridiculous. perhaps it is an inherited trait. have a great week. keep up the dancing anyway. and send more twi.

Since Hillary is out (yes, yes, I know Renee!!!), I am volunteering for Obama, but have not heard the song yet. On one of the Sunday talk shows, a rep of Kenya was asked his opinions of the US candidates...his response was very interesting. I imagine it is interesting to be out of the country when such a huge election is taking place here. It seems the news of the process is being heard around the world. Stay healthy!
