So it was back to Moree in NSW for some more work and housesitting. We had a couple of jobs going at most times mainly painting and decorating and gardening. We even managed somehow to get work doing the old ladies gardens in the retirement home. The housesitting and working went well and Mairead’s baking went down even better. Eventually called time on our adventures in Moree and headed towards Newcastle again (we never thought we would be back there as we had torn our the street map of Newcastle from our lonely planet) then to Sydney again and we flew to Hobart in Tasmania. Our tip around tassie was great we rented a small car and drove around for a week. We saw Port Arthur the prison which was an amazing complex, wineglass bay and ... read more

So we arrived after a 16 hour flight. It was about 6 in the morning when we arrived in Sydney I didnt know what time it felt like. The first week in Sydney was spent seeing the usual sights and spending a whole lot more money than we did in any city in South America. Anyway we enjoyed the city, its clean and the people are friendly. We started applying for jobs and we managed to get a job quicker than anticipated. After a couple of mad days trying to do all the things we wanted to do in Sydney like see the Opera house, Taronga Zoo, Paddys market, Powerhouse Museum, Aquarium, Darling Harbour and the Sydney Bridge climb (which we did with a friend from home who was in sydney at the time Colm O ... read more

So the time had come for the Inca trail. We weren't sure if we had adapted to the altitude well enough to do it but were excited when the bus collected us at 0500 from our hostel. The bus journey to the start of the trail (km82) wasnt too long and we were ready to go after a breakfast of scrambled eggs. First stage was to get our passports checked it was nearly like going into a different country. There were 16 people in our group and 21 porters and 2 guides so all in all we were a big enough group. The first day was the introductory day so it was handy enough apart form the boiling heat. We made it to lunch where I eat way too much food and then struggled for the ... read more

The rest of our stay in Rio de Janiero was enjoyable. We went on the city tour and saw all the iconic sights of rio. The statue of Christ the Redeemer, the third biggest football stadium in the world- Maracanã, then a cable car up to the top of the sugarloaf mountain (yes they stole the name from us) and then to a weigh what eat place they are good and are all over Brazil. The next journey wasnt so pleasant the taxi to Rio de Janiero airport was fast, bumpy and very smelly and the smell got worse as we passed the river where the sewage from the favellas runs into. The flight to Santiago, Chile wasnt bad but the 10hr wait overnight in the airport was tiring. The flight to La Paz, Bolivia was ... read more

The second month has come and gone really quickly. We spent most of the month in Buenos Aires on and off. We had a training camp and a couple of camps in August so that is what we spent most of the month doing. The camps took place in a holiday resort with a hotel and cabins. The training course was great fun we met a couple of irish and a few americans and had a laugh. At the training course i somehow managed to become part of the english team in a battle of the countries through a zipline course through the trees. There was only one english girl she needed a partner so being too nice i volunteered. We came last out of five teams so obviously i wasnt tying my hardest.......... Our stay ... read more

Hi so ill try to update my blog every month. We have been travelling about a month now. It has been great. We started in Buenos Aires and did nearly all the things you are ´meant to do´there apart from attending a football match. We saw a tango show, went to the recolleta cemetary where evita is buried, we had coffee and eat alfahores with dulch de leche and we eat a huge steak from the parilla. The city is huge and trying to navigate through the city is actually quite easy when you get used to it. Our first bus journey didnt go so well we didnt have enough change for the machine but luckily there were nice old ladys there to help us and exchange a 2paso note for two paso coins. One tip ... read more
