By the way, the chocolate is awesome, and we will definitely be bringing some home. We will also be bringing some grasshoppers (chapulines) and everyone HAS to try some. They are interesting. You just have to close you are eyes and go against every instinct you have to not eat a grasshopper. I wanted to add, when we met those people in Real de Catorce, we sat up on a roof at our hotel for a while talking, having a couple of beers. I think we were being reasonable loud, especially since it was Saturday night and before 12:00, but apparently [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone! James and I are now in Oaxaca, the city. We arrived at about 4:30 this morning. All the sleep we got last night was extremely broken bus sleep for the 6 1/2 hour ride from Mexico City, so walking around the city with our 30+ pound packs at 6:30am looking for a cheap place to stay tonight, was not the most fun I have ever had. So far we havent really seen alot of Oaxaca because weve been resting at our hostel, James napping, me, catching up with my journal. After this stop at the internet cafe, we are [View Full Entry]

Hola Everyone! So, our trip has been good so far. Its now our fifth day in Mexico. We are still in Real de Catorce, and will be for 2 more nights. The day after tomorrow, we are heading into the desert at about 5 in the morning. Its about a 15 to 20 mile hike down there. At least getting there will be easy since its all down hill. We going to kind of feel it out, see if its right and maybe find some Peyote, maybe not. Who knows. But we will camping out there for 2 nights. I cant [View Full Entry]

So close to leaving for Mexico. We're leaving my mom's today, and we only have to wrap up a few things once we get back to Austin. We still have to get our bus tickets, and I'm not even sure what day we'll be leaving. The preparation is so lax for a 4 month trip throughout a foreign country. That's the way I want it though. No itinerary, no plan, just wherever the wind blows us. But you should see the place where you buy these bus tickets. You pull up to an old rickety house, on it's way out you [View Full Entry]

Almost
The time for travel is growing very close, but still, I'm not letting myself get excited. I guess it's because of so many plans gone awry or deserted in the past, but I'm pretty sure it won't dawn on me that we're actually going until a couple of days before we leave. James and I are going to Mexico for hopefully around 4 months, taking the bus, and if I get my way, a little hitchhiking. There are a few places we're going to for sure, like Real de Catorce and Puerto Escondido (for surfing), but other than that, we're leaving [View Full Entry]
