I wouldn't actually call this adventuring, but I hate to completely abandon a blog into which I've put so many hours. James and I are in Houston right now, visiting his family, then mine. I guess it could be an adventure, but I don't suppose I care too much. I've been into the cooking thing lately. So I've been cooking alot. I won't bore you with accounts of of my hours spent in the kitchen. Though I made healthy mayo of yogurt and tofu and other stuff, and healthy ranch dressing of the mayo and other stuff, and healthy espresso cake [View Full Entry]

James and Me

Six days left until we leave Puerto. Actually less than six. We leave on the 20th, and we're headed home. Two or three days straight of bus riding. This has turned out to be a much shorter trip than the 3-4 months we had originally planned. We were decieved into believing that Mexico is alot cheaper than it is, by both our romanticizing friends, and our guidebook. Oh well...that's life. We've had a good time with our English friends, Becca and Dan, who left this morning. They are taking busses all the way to San Fransisco, before flying home to London. [View Full Entry]

Last night, Saturday night, I had the treat of seeing some street performers dancing with Poi. This is actually the third time I´ve seen them, but because the amount of people here is steadily increasing, as there is a slight bump in tourism in July, last night was the best. There were about 5 people who danced with the poi, about 3 who used this baton like stick, and about 3 more who used devil sticks. I, personally, am really only interested in the Poi, but the others are lovely nonetheless. The photos here, will do the beauty of this dance [View Full Entry]

I´ve spent over a month now in Mexico, eating the ice, brushing my teeth with the tap water, not washing, or peeling the fruits and veggies before I eat them, and nothing happens. Now some how I´ve ended up with a friggin cold, in the tropics. Life, you have a interesting sense of humor. That´s basically all I have to say. I´m sure you were all so excited when you checked your email, eagerly clicking the link to read the latest, compelling entry in my blog. Sorry. Like I said, I have a cold. You all shouldn´t be so selfish. What [View Full Entry]

What a day yesterday was. We left for San pedro Mixtepec in our collectivo taxi, knowing only that we needed to go there to get to the waterfall, and a general idea of where the waterfall was in relation to San Pedro. When we arrived there, we could only discern from the rapid Spanish directions we recieved from several people, that we needed to wait in front of the Secondary School to get a ride to La Reforma, the town we had to get to, to get to the waterfalls. We´ve developed a honing practice when asking for directions, meaning, we [View Full Entry]

A Bee´s Nest

Hola Amigos y Familia! I´m happy to say that today, I´m in much higher spirits. I think it was a combination of PMS and a hangover that allowed me to be hit really hard by the aforementioned drama. While I still hold to everything I said, I´m feeling alot more positive about this all, and I´m determined to find adventure in this place. Tomorrow we´re heading up to San Pedro Mixtepec, where they´re having a festival for the 376th anniversary of the founding of the town. Near by there are some natural pools, supposedly wonderful for swimming and one waterfall, 25 [View Full Entry]

The Walk Home

Escondido, in Spanish, means hidden, and thats exactly what the sun has been. It´s no wonder we´ve been getting all the "cheap" off season prices. Now, Im going to say this at the risk of sounding a little spoiled, but to be perfectly honest, this staying in Puerto Escondido for a month, is not exactly working out for me. Its not that I miss the comforts of home: the "cleaner" tap water, the food, the toilet seats. I am more than happy to give up all these things, because believe it or not, they do not complete me. What it is, [View Full Entry]

I´ve put some photos up finally, for you all to enjoy. I think that I will be trying to add photos into my entries as I go along from now on. I don´t really have alot of photos of Puerto Escondido yet, so that will come later. So, I made my first attempt at surfing yesterday, and failed miserably. The seasickness I get doesn´t do alot for my morale. The waves weren´t very big, but it seemed like all the more experienced surfers wanted to be right infront of me. I have very little control over where the board goes, so [View Full Entry]

Here is a link to a map of Mexico that shows where Puerto Escondido is... http://www.mexico.us/map.htm Actually I don´t know if that will show up as a link, but if it´s not you´ll know what to do I´m sure. Loook at the second map down, at pretty much the bottom of Mexico, and there we are. A couple of things about Mexico... 1.Toilet seats are a rare treat. 2. Hotels beds usually only come with a sheet and no blanket, because where we have been, you need no blanket. 3. The orange juice is always fresh squeezed. 4. Mexicans are very [View Full Entry]

We are finally here...Puerto Escondido, the place we will be staying for about a month. It is literally paradise here. I have eaten several mangos today that I found fallen off of their trees. There are limes growing all over, almond trees everywhere, even some avocado trees. The beaches are long, there are huge promontories of dark rock dividing the beaches, waves beating up against them. The water is the most absolutely perfect temperature, which would cool you off on a hot day, but you wouldnt shudder at all to get in. Its awesome here. The surf, unfortuantely, is a little [View Full Entry]
