Day 10 Arriving early on the 8am shinkansen (2 hours) from Kyoto, we went straight to yet another K's House where we had a flash double room this time, with our own bathroom, TV, A/C and huge bed! After dropping our bags off we headed straight to the Green Arena for the Sumo Tournament. The performances included displays of comic sumo and traditional sumo songfests in addition to the normal sumo bouts. There were some BIG boys there...over 2m tall and over 200Kgs...we both got photos with a couple of them! It was really interesting to watch and the crowd was [View Full Entry]

Day 8 - Temples, Shrines, Temples, Shrines... Last night we checked into K's House Kyoto which is close to the train station in the south side of Kyoto. We dropped our bags off and headed to down town Kyoto and walked millions of miles up and down streets of restaurants, stalls and shops. Up early as usual with a big day planned. We first headed down to Kyoto station and got a train to Fushimi Inari-taisha Shire with their 4km of red tori gates. "The magical, seemingly unending path of over 5000 vibrant orange torii gates that wind through hills behind [View Full Entry]

Day 6/7/8
A few hours on the train north to Nagano where the 1998 Winter Olympics were then another hour on a private train and we landed in rainy Yudanaka. It is a sleepy little town, but beautiful! We stayed at the Shimaya Ryokan which was a traditional family run hotel with it's own onsen. Our room was traditional with tatami mat floors and rice paper walls. It's all quite low and Chris was banging his head on the ceiling every few minutes. Because it was raining when we arrived we chilled in our room and then went for dinner at [View Full Entry]

DAY 1/2 So, we've had our first full day in Japan and I think we've walked a million kms! Last night we landed at Narita airport at 8pm local time after 7 hours flying. We got the local Keise line into to aoto station then got the subway to Kuramae station. We had to check in by 10pm and we made it just in the nick of time. Our hostel K's House was about 5min walk from there. Our little 8 bed dorm was full so we decided to go for a walk up the road to find some dinner. We [View Full Entry]

Em and Chris go to India Delhi 8.5 hour flight from London Heathrow to Mumbai International Airport. After a 5 hour delay in Mumbai spent in the Jet Airways VIP Lounge drinking and eating what ever we wanted (which wasn’t much), we finally boarded our connecting 2 hour flight to Delhi. Karan met us at the airport with a car and driver he’d hired. 23 hours after leaving our ex-home at Hollybush St in London, we pulled into our new home for the next few weeks in Gurgaon, 1 hour south of central Delhi. After rounds of hugs and kisses we [View Full Entry]

Red lights, Canals, Clogs, Bicycles and Buds We flew to Amsterdam early Sunday morning. You can get into town from the airport via train. We had already booked accommodation at this rad hostel called The Flying Pig. They have queensize bunks which is great! They were so comfy and so roomy after normally snuggling together on a single bunk bed! After dropping our backpacks off at the hostel we decided to explore on foot in the freezing (but for a little while sunny) conditions. Stopping at a nice 'normal' coffee shop to warm up was really nice as it was right [View Full Entry]

Christmas at Club Hollybush was a success filled with load of homecooked goodness, including rumballs. English people do not know what rumballs are...we've decided Aussies have rumballs and Pomms have Mince (fruit) pies. Leah and our Indian friend Karan and his mate Shitij came round. A pancakes and champagne breakfast was followed by present opening. Then we made chicken roulades and a vegetarian strudle for lunch. The afternoon was spend drinking mulled wine, smoking the sheesha and picking at a cheese platter with homemade cheese sticks. Dinner was a gigantic beef wellington with roasted v [View Full Entry]

Merry Christmas!

The weekend Leah, Lauren, Chris and Emily hired a car and drove to the English countryside. We first stopped in at Oxford to see the university and have some lunch. We then headed up to Moreton-in-Marsh. It was freezing and so foggy. Looking out the window all you could see was white from about 5m. Each village is so quaint and cute and have the coolest names. They are all from Roman times. We also checked out Stow-on-the-Wold. There are cute little markets and shops scattered around. We went into this old toy shop and the man turned on this big [View Full Entry]
