Australasia » New Zealand » South Island » Christchurch By elluco May 30th 2007 I have exactly 3 weeks here. That really is the minimum of minimums you can do this country. The maximum if you are into sheep!. Although, it is not the size of Australia, the amount of scenery and scope of activities to do is vast, and I really will only touch on activities and the natural beauty of this country. So far, I have been in Christchurch for 2 nights and a day. It is very much an English inspired town, with its Catheral, town square, river/brook, [View Full Entry]

Australasia » Australia » Western Australia » Coral Bay By elluco May 21st 2007 7.30. It feels like ground hog day! I'm late, everyone in the group knows my name as I walk in as they've been frantically calling the hostel (which is incidentally 50m away) and asking every punter who walks into the shop 'are you luke'. Nice entrance. This is my first and only crack at this. Hope the Gods are with me. Had a few last night with a Finnish couple. Cant remember most of it, but do remember them stating that the Finnish national dish looks like [View Full Entry]

7.30am. The day had arrived. Big Blue Wobbly Fish Day. I have been looking forward to doing this for years, by all accounts the most worthwhile thang to do when to comes to fish and swimmer interaction. Why? They're huge, anything between 5 and 30m. The biggest one in this area is normally around 14m. Its real hit and miss with these things. Unlike whales they're sharks! Really. Which means they dont have to come up for air, so could in theory potter around in the deepest depths. The good news is they come to coral bay between march and [View Full Entry]

Australasia » Australia » Western Australia » Kununurra By elluco May 14th 2007 Beginning of 52km trip well actually 6km into, but my camera was buried in a waterproof barrel. Croc count is about 5 at this point! My canoe partner, is not the large breasted one, but the young guy. Not a problem, less paddling for me! We set off in the canoe, these are canadian style canoes, so it requires an amount of cohesion and cooperation between paddlers to keep the canoe in a straight line. Theres an initial exchange on the best way to keep going forward in a [View Full Entry]

how can you talk about 36 hours on a bus and make it interesting. I cant. But I sure can give out shit about the bloody Aboriginal Woman with her, shit and smell infested kids, crying baby, shitty nappies, serious body odour in the seat in front of me. Do i really have to be subjected to the smell of baby shit in the name of travelling. Is there some health and safety law against it? How can a baby cry so much and kids drule so much on the window and rustle so many plastic bags. Ah yea, possibly the [View Full Entry]

Australasia » Australia » Western Australia » Kununurra By elluco May 14th 2007 The so called mini bungles glad i didnt bother with the maxi bungles!Back from my geretric old people tour. "hey luke, i have got you a canoe partner and she got big cans" says Kenton the hostel owner. After waiting 2 days for this trip and a 11th hour partner for the trip, one would see this as a definite positive. Before I could ponder the plus and minus, he follows up with, they're all waiting for you mate, while cunningly walking me round to the group, "Do [View Full Entry]

Well, have escaped from the clutches of Katherine, its pissed aboriginal inhabitants, a crappy hostel and the amazing feat of not having a single conversation with anyone in the hostel! Never mind, we are a week down the track 1/52th or something close to it. Ok, since this was the only hostel in town, I had no choice. Get the old lonely planet out, check out the Kununurra section, avoid any hostel that says YHA (youth hostel association) run, read the blab and leave it in the hands of feat! First choice is full up, theres only a YHA and another [View Full Entry]

Australasia » Australia » Northern Territory » Darwin May 4th 2007 Alarm goes off, 3hrs sleep, hangover. Yep I made a friend or 2. One ended up to be complete prick! One of the biggest I have met in years AND he was from Belfast. Enough said. Get me out of this hostel. The trip is a 9 person trip in the back of a Toyota 4wd something. The driver is a hippie, the passenger is a chick and sounds German (shes actually swiss). He informs me after mimicking my accent (this is annoying thing about being Irish, to be sure [View Full Entry]
