Hey guys, Apparently as I get older I am overcome by various ailments. For example, I wasn't lactose intolerant until my last year of University and I have now become partial to sea sickness. Today was an absolutely gorgeous one - perfect for our whale watch off of the South Bay of Kaikoura. In between sessions with a white paper bag I was lucky enough to catch sight of 4 Sperm Whales, a pod of Dusky Dolphins, a few NZ Fur Seals and an Albatross. Tomorrow we are going on an Abaltross encounter to see these incredible birds up close. They [View Full Entry]

our tour boat was the red encounter boat
Hey guys, On Friday we drove from Queenstown to Milford Sound and as it began to get darker outside I could feel that the scenery was getting even more gorgeous. We went from being kilometers away from mountains to practically scaling them with the van. The roads spiriled up and down the mountains and seeing the snowy caps reflecting the moonlight was spectacular. Luckily Conor was driving because I couldn't stop looking up. When we weren't scaling mountains we were in forest and this is where we 'almost killed a possum.' The evening started with the sighting of heaps of rabbits [View Full Entry]

Hey guys, Here in New Zealand there is an unnatural abundance of Possums due to a wrongful introduction from Australia. The possum is ruining natrual habitat like certain trees and plants and therefore taking food from the animals that belong in New Zealand. This is why there is such a hatred for them over here. Some bars even have a promotion where if you bring in a possum tail (one that you've killed) then you get a couple free pints. When we were at the Punakaiki rocks we saw a notice from the New Zealand government essentially urging people to off [View Full Entry]

Really a species of Sea Lion
Hey guys, As you know, it's been raining 97% of our time here in NZ. But, God is good. The ONLY time it clears up is when we plan to spend the day outside on somesort of adventure. The day before a.k.a the booking day, we're always very apprehensive about the weather in the coming day. We think about how we can't let the weather stop us from exploring the country so we should just go for it. The other day, while at Abel Tasman National Park, we booked a Sea Kayaking day trip. The weather was predicted to only get [View Full Entry]

Hey guys, So yesterday Conor and I stopped at the worst internet cafe and so had the worst cafe experience. After almost an hour of writing and updating our blogs we went to save them and 'POOF' they were gone. No longer. In blog heaven. So now I will attempt to re-write everything.... So after 3 nights with the roomie it was time to leave Auckland to explore the North and South Islands. We're now on our 6th day of campervanning and it has rained everyday since we've gotten here. Conor and I have solved the system though: if it rains [View Full Entry]

Hey guys. Today we went to Mount Eden. They said that it was the best view of Auckland City and it was. Mount Eden is an old old volcano, so old that grass grows within the crater. Very timid cows are scattered everywhere on the trek to the top of the volcano and once you're there you gain access to a full 360 degree view of Auckland. It would be amazing to see at sunset/rise. However, it was neat to see rain falling in the distance all around Auckland yet failing to land on Mount Eden...adding more meaning to it's name. [View Full Entry]

So Sky Diving was A-MAZING! I know that some of you have done it so would agree that there is no other feeling that compares to falling from 11,000ft at 200km/hr. Absolutely incredible! I was, surprisingly, not nervous at all. The only time that I felt a bit iffy was the initial evacuation from the plane but then it was just one of the most enjoyable things I've done. Flying over Fiji was a beautiful experience as was when the parachute opened sans-problem. Pete (to whom I was attached) allowed me to steer and just made me feel so comfortable up [View Full Entry]

First Day in Fiji
Conor and I took a stroll around Nadi.
Bula! Fiji is beautiful! Conor and I spent our first day walking around Nadi (pronounced Nan-di) -- all in all not the most happening place. There's absolutely nothing going on in this town. We got here early in the morning so were the first tourists and therefore subject to all the more pressure to buy things. If we didn't buy something or stop to chat with the locals we "weren't being friendly." Not wanting to give Canada a bad rep we gave them a chance but learned very quickly that there was an alternative motive to their friendliness -- they get [View Full Entry]
