Pucon

I am now in Pucon, adventure capital of Chile. Everyone comes here to climb volcanoes, mountain bike and go white water rafting, it is a really pretty town on the edge of a lake but it is strangely like being in a Swiss ski resort! The main street is lined with log cabin type bars and shops and it has a number of camping/sports shops including North Face. So on to the bus to Chillan, buying the ticket was incredibly easy - just point at the time you want on the computer screen, pick your seat and your ticket is printed it even tells you what bay it leaves from. Your bag is checked into the hold (and not released till you produce your luggage tag), the bus is cool, comfortable, has toilets WITH toilet paper, seats that recline futher than airplane sates and more leg room, plus people get on to sell drinks and snacks (not just ordinary snacks either, we had a whole Patisserie). I arrived in Santiago de Chile after a long and tiring wait in Toronto airport at 5am Uk time and checked into La Chimba Hostel in the Barrio Bellavista area which was very lively and full of bars and multicoloured fronted buildings, art galleries and restaurants. Very bohemian. My hostel was great, in a fantastic location, comfortable beds, small and friendly. The transfer from the airport was easy and everyone was helpfull without being pushy, what a change from Africa. In fact it was so easy I think I was a little disapointed.
