I guess sometimes things aren't meant to go according to plan. Last time that we spoke we were making plans to go on a day trip to Nantes to see my cousing Erinna who is lucky enough to be studying there. On the morning of our proposed day trip (yesterday morning) we got up early, ate yet another free breakfast, and headed down to the Metro in order to get to Gare de Montparnasse, from which trains to Nantes and other destinations in the west of France depart. We queued up at the ticket office and when our turn came we [View Full Entry]

It has been the best part of a week since we last spoke, not least of all due to the ridiculously expensive internet cafes around the place, but we will get to that later. The morning after our last entry we packed up our bags, slammed down our last breakfast in Florence and headed to the train station. We were headed for the fashion capital of the world, Milan, in order to meet up with a friend, Karen, who just happened to be in Milan for work. Despite having reserved a seat on the train we were dismayed to discover that [View Full Entry]

Welcome one and all to episode five of Matt & Sharon's travel blog. Last time we spoke the two of us were just about to get on a train for the Tuscan capital, Florence. After wolfing down our complimentary croissants and coffee (with whipped cream floating on top) we wandered through the rain across the road to Roma Termini station. The arrivals board showed that most of the trains coming into Rome had been delayed, some up to two hours, and the departures board didn't read any better. Luckily our train left Rome on time (albeit from a different platform than [View Full Entry]

Hi all. First of all a big thank you to everyone that has emailed their lovely comments about the blog. It has been great to get some positive feedback and it's nice to see that people are actually reading it! Since we last spoke we have been to Santorini and back, and we are now in the Italian capital of Rome. On Friday the 5th we got up at 4:45am and caught the Metro to the port of Piraeus for our ferry ride to Santorini. The trip lasted about 8.5 hours including some brief stops in Paros and Naxos where people, [View Full Entry]

Well we have been around the world (of Ancient Greece anyway) and we are back in Athens. The day after our last entry we spent around 5 hours walking around Athens, taking in the sights. We walked from Hotel Fivos up to the Acropolis and took advantage of the fact that it is free on Sundays, saving ourselves 24 Euro in the process. Despite the fact that it is winter here there were still plenty of tourist coming to check out the Acropolis, probably taking advantage of the free Sundays just like us. The buildings at the Acropolis are quite spectacular, [View Full Entry]

A tired but excited hello from Athens! It is the end of our second day in the Greek capital and we are just starting to get over the jet lag. The flights from Melbourne to Singapore and Singapore to Athens were long and tiring, but quite pleasant. I really can't speak highly enough of Singapore Airlines. They looked after us the whole time, their staff were very friendly, and I got to play Super Mario Bros! You can't ask for more than that! Having said that, we had our first bit of drama before we had even left Tullamarine airport... Having [View Full Entry]

First of all, hello and welcome to Matt & Sharon's travel blog. It is the day before we leave for our European adventure, and I have to admit I'm a little nervous. The furthest I have been from home is Maroochydore on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and while Sharon has the benefit of prior overseas travel experience, she is still a bit nervous as well. Having said that, we are both very excited to be spending some time overseas and hopefully this blog will keep those that are interested up to date as to where we are, what we are up to, [View Full Entry]
