It has been the best part of a week since we last spoke, not least of all due to the ridiculously expensive internet cafes around the place, but we will get to that later. Welcome one and all to episode five of Matt & Sharon's travel blog. Last time we spoke the two of us were just about to get on a train for the Tuscan capital, Florence. After wolfing down our complimentary croissants and coffee (with whipped cream floating on top) we wandered through the rain across the road to Roma Termini station. Hi all. First of all a big thank you to everyone that has emailed their lovely comments about the blog. It has been great to get some positive feedback and it's nice to see that people are actually reading it! Since we last spoke we have been to Santorini and back, and we are now in the Italian capital of Rome. On Friday the 5th we got up at 4:45am and caught the Metro to the port of Piraeus for our ferry ride to Santorini. Well we have been around the world (of Ancient Greece anyway) and we are back in Athens. The day after our last entry we spent around 5 hours walking around Athens, taking in the sights. We walked from Hotel Fivos up to the Acropolis and took advantage of the fact that it is free on Sundays, saving ourselves 24 Euro in the process. Despite the fact that it is winter here there were still plenty of tourist coming to check out the Acropolis, probably taking advantage of the free Sundays just like us. A tired but excited hello from Athens! It is the end of our second day in the Greek capital and we are just starting to get over the jet lag. The flights from Melbourne to Singapore and Singapore to Athens were long and tiring, but quite pleasant. I really can't speak highly enough of Singapore Airlines. They looked after us the whole time, their staff were very friendly, and I got to play Super Mario Bros! You can't ask for more than that!
