So first of all, I want to apologize for the last blog because I did it in such a rush, and there were probably some confusing sentences and misspelled words that I would have fixed had I revised it before publishing. But I promised I would get it done before Paris, and I did it 2 minutes before running out the door to the train station. So that’s where I’m going to go now, even though I haven’t finished spring break, I’m fast forwarding to this past weekend, but Berlin will be very close behind. As I said, Paris was this weekend! Sara, Stephen, Steven, and I all went and enjoyed it a lot. We left Thursday night (April 30) and spent the night in Liverpool before our early flight. We stayed in a hostel this ... read more

A Whole New World

First of all: OP. We did not get to go surfing and I am still a little bitter about it. But we did get to do some indoor climbing. I did enjoy climbing a lot because it was a great challenge, but the fact that we weren’t surfing made it worse. At the climbing site, there were all sorts of elements and courses we could climb. So I got to try to climb up a post like Mulan to retrieve an arrow! I also climbed up a swinging ladder, and even tried to climb up a chimney-like box. It was a good day, even though we weren’t surfing due to no waves. Back to spring break: Prague! When we flew from Venice, we got to fly directly over the Alps, which was really neat, so I ... read more

So now I’m fast-forwarding to Saturday and Sunday when we had a fieldtrip, then I will go back to spring break next time. I’ll do this so I don’t fall as far behind- I’m just prolonging the inevitable. This past weekend we went to another one of King Edward’s Norman castles, Conwy. Conwy Castle was the ‘headquarters’ of all of Edward’s castles in North Wales, and he was there often, apparently. We had a tour guide through this castle, who definitely enhanced our experience. He made really bad jokes and laughed at them, then we all laughed at him laughing at himself, but he thought we were laughing at his jokes. It was a good time! But he did teach us a lot, and I made a lot of connections, linking Conwy Castle to the other ... read more

Venice was the second stop we made as a group, and after spending another night in the airport, we were ready for some time to relax. Well when we made it to our hostel, which was more of a campground, Stephen and I decided to go into the city while the other girls relaxed by the moldy green pool by the bungalow we stayed in. Because it was such a nice day, and we were in Italy, we were able to soak in the sun any way possible. When Stephen and I went in to the city, we wandered around, got lost a few times, found a few interesting places, saw some beautiful shops, I fell in a canal, we went got a sandwich and a glass of wine-which was cheaper than water, ate gelato, and ... read more

I’m just about done with my papers that are due tomorrow so I can get back to writing about the greatest spring break I’ve ever had! Ok, Sara and I came back to London after our all-inclusive weekend in Norway, and stayed the night with Jane. Jane let us sleep in and take a lunch with us when we left which was so kind of her. Then Sara and I walked around London for a while. We stopped by Covent Garden, walked around Buckingham, then simply relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful weather in the various parks. Obama was on his way into London so we saw a lot of setting up for the G20 Summit. We met up with Jess and Erin who had been on their own exciting adventures while we were in Norway. We ... read more

It’s really hard for me to think back through my whole break and remember what I did three weeks ago. But it’s nice to reread my journal and look over everything because it reminds me of even more things that I didn’t write down. Norway is a biggie, so get ready. Let’s see, I left off with meeting Sara, Steven, and Sara’s parents in London and we left for Norway. The reason I went to Norway with them is because they have family still living there. Sara and Steven are cousins, and their great great grandpa left Norway in the 1910’s at the age of 17 (and didn’t go back to Norway until he was 80!). So when Sara’s parents came to visit her, that was the perfect opportunity for them to go to Norway and ... read more

After these past three weeks traveling all around Europe, I’ve determined that it really is a wonderful world! I am fascinated by everything that is out there! It was always a dream to travel to Norway, the Colosseum was always something I thought I would see only in books, and I never imagined myself in the Czech Republic! I won’t be able to fit all the places I’ve been in one blog, nor would you want to read that one blog if I did. So I will start it off now, then work on the essays and journals that are due at the end of the week, and if I get sick of doing those then I will write another blog, so no one is overwhelmed. Plus, I need to recap everything that has happened, because ... read more

Last weekend I just stayed in Bangor. Friends from home came to visit others here, so we just spent time with them. I didn’t go anywhere, but I got a lot of work done on my essays and journals, so the weekend here really was worth it. During OP on Tuesday, we went sailing on the Menai Strait! It was a lot of fun and something very new to me. It was an absolutely gorgeous day but there was one problem: no wind. Wind is pretty essential to sailing, so we were stuck out in the strait without a paddle! We were actually being towed around by the motor boats more than we were sailing. But we did get a gush of wind for about 5 minutes and learned to sail, so that was fun. Sara ... read more

March 11th 2009

After riding bicycles I thought it best to stay grounded and relax for a while. Luckily I went to the perfect place to relax. When my mom was in England when she was younger, she lived with Juliet and her family. Well now Juliet has a family of her own and I got to visit them. It was the second time I had met them, but it felt as though we’d known each other forever. It was great to be in a family setting, because it really felt like home to me. John, Juliet, and their son Oli, were extremely inviting and caring, and were so kind to me, even though I was nearly a stranger in their home. They fixed me home-made meals, gave me anything and everything I needed, and showed me around their ... read more

March 3rd 2009

I have put myself in a few rather dangerous situations in the past week. But survived, so don’t get worked up until you hear the stories. I have been extremely busy since London and it’s only going to get even busier, so I thought I would give you this past week before even more happens. We took off for Amsterdam Thursday night, and because our flight left Liverpool so early on Friday morning, we slept in the airport for about 4 hours. We took shifts so really we each only slept for about 2 ½ hours. But we were able to sleep on the flight, even though it was only an hour. Then we had to take a train into the city, but by that point I was too excited to sleep. When we got into ... read more
