The Blue Mosque - From: It's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Well, the religious aspect had no signifigance to me (and quite frankly, it bored me). Architectually, I guess it was good, but really, it's not far from the Hagia Sofia which is what? 1,000 years older? The Hagia Sofia was much more impressive to me. As for the tea, yeah, I'm expecting that. Still, I'll get the cups, etc through.

"Been a long time gone Constantinople" - From: It's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Istanbul for me was a very moving experience - with the history and the culture and (albeit v moderate) Muslim religion and the most bizzare little nightclub cellar/bar which played top music and served beer from the tap until early hours of the morning. I'm interested that you thought the Blue Mosque was not that special. Horses for courses I suppose :) Good luck with the tea through customs - they confiscated mine :(

I am still kicking myself after missing the opportunity to visit Gallipoli when I had a week in Istanbul. Very heartfelt mate, would have been a moving experience even for the most cinical. Top pics BTW!

ahoy there mate :) just finished going through your saga to date and it's got me exhausted - some top pics, love to see them all in person (maybe one day). Always was interested in seeing how Piraeus was linked the port to Athens, oh and eating Greek seafood with ouzo which you WALKED AWAY FROM!! ;) as well as the tomb. And more recently the Byzantine aspect of Greece would be so cool to see. Top idea this blog BTW! Take care post soon.

It was something like Soutsikakis at Meteora. It definitely started with S, but you're right, I think they were called kefthethes somewhere else that I had them

Oh, sorry, no prizes. First answer was steven, who used the term "food cricket" and is thus disqualified. Second answer is from anonymous, so they are disqualified. Bad luck :P

Homer Simpson said it. Now I think it was when he got the job as a food critic?

outstanding bloggin dave - From: Tour of Greece, part 2
Really good stuff - feels like you're saving me the effort of going to alot of these places when we go over!! By the way - the meatballs were probably called "keftethes", though that may depend on where you were and what they call it there.

nice one Bruvva! - From: Ancient Athens
Awesome! Some top stuff there! I tell you it sounds to me like these Greeks are a tired bunch. All those thousands of years of civilization seem to have knackered them, siestas at 3pm, everything closed, crazy strikes. And they call Aussies apathetic?!?!?!?! BAH! Oh and I love the 'Well, I didn’t know what they did in ancient marketplaces' Keep em coming!

Hey Vincenzo, Just subscribed to the blog and caught up on the Adventures of Dave in the motherland. You'll find a lot of stuff closes around 3pm. Siesta time my friend. Greeks need to have a sleep so that they can wake up and have dinner ridiculously late and party till the wee hours of the monring. Keep up the good work on the blog - it's getting me psyched for my arrival. cb

Visit to Viking Burial Ground - From: Everything is booked!
Good to see you will be visiting the viking burial ground seeing your family history shows your ancestral family of FOTHERGILL who settled in Cumbria UK were descended from the Vikings. Good time to say hi to your ancestors. Shame you'll be away for your mother's birthday :-( and for mothers' day :-(. Still, think of the great presents you can buy her while you are away. :-)
