This is important the know when going to bars and getting taxis. Sometimes you are just out of luck. Never take a taxi to West Bay they will assume you are a tourist staying at one the resorts. Ive heard stories of people who have paid 10 american for a taxi from West End to West Bay. And of course there are some bars t http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-385027.html Dr. Livingston I presume Day 2 Thursday La Ceiba San Pedro Sula Puerto Cortes Corinto the Guatemalan border Puerto Barrios LivingstonYes I hit all those places in one day. Granted it was get off one bus get on the next but I really lucked out and there was always another bus so I didnt waste time waiting around. The border was hilarious. So I got up early cause I wanted to get the 6 am bus to San Pe http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Guatemala/Livingston/blog-384708.html The big visa run Well I've been in paradise nearly three months now... which unfortunately means I have to deal with that pesky little visa issue. There used to be a guy on Roatan who would sort it out for you i.e. stamp you for another three months under the table but he no longer does it. So you can either go to Utila or I think still La Ceiba to get the stamp. Or you can take the 100 bucks you would spen http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/La-Ceiba/blog-384707.html How to watch the superbowl on a tropical island Sunday was the superbowl and of course I had to watch since the Cardinals had made it to this point... quite obviously hell must have frozen overReid the latest and greatest intern had arrived the day before. Alice Mindy and I took the day off which to Brian meant we were all taking the day off including Michel and Reid... that was quite the first morning for Reid to have his ride to wo http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-377145.html Rattle Rattle are you OK So yes its been a while but I had written a great entry and then the internet went out without the website saving my entry and then i got lazy Dso here now are the missing entries but properly dated well somewhat properlyI mentioned my noisemaker because I was so excited to have it and I used it all the time and then on the second day of having it I dropped it.... it happened as I was ge http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-377134.html Quick get in the water before you get wet Well it appears that the rainy season is practically over Woohoo for sun My feet have turned a nice brown but that ends at the ankle and my legs are casper white... with red dots all over from the damn sandflies. Still have rain here and there which means the seas are still a bit of a rollercoaster ride... the wooden kind. Sandflies are out in abundance though... apparently they quite lik http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-369706.html Well I found 21 bucks Yes but I also kicked your ass in the swim test I've almost caught up to Jason in our dive master requirements who arrived here two weeks before me but it was a hectic busy two weeks and so he didnt get started on his rescue course as early as he could. One of the things we need to do are the swim tests an 800 meter swim with mask snorkel and fins a 400 meter swim with nothing a 100 m http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-366997.html Yo dude where are you washing your hands So one bad thing about living in the third world is the lack of water consistency.... wait actually its more like one of the travails of living in this crack house. Apparently we are supposed to be priming the pump every day but none of us knew that. So of course the water ran out yesterday. When we have no water the kitchen becomes a condemned zone. But its nice knowing your neighbours just http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-365822.html Ansel Adams step aside Lookie lookie i got.... uhm pictures. Bad rhyme DHere they are in all their glory PICTURESVideos to come http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-364504.html Island Life So heres a brief insight to the hilarities of living on a tropical islandBugs are everywhere of course and I have no problem with tarantulas out in the wild... i do however have a problem with baby tarantulas hanging out on my sink stand... i know im such a girl. Got a lot of bull for that one but i very much wanted it out of my bathroom and so enlisted the guys to get rid of it for me. I do http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-364485.html Week one wrapup I now present the past weekFirst a brief insight into our daily lives....wake up at 645 up by 650 throw on a bathing suit and some shorts and a tee make my pbj sandwich the breakfast of champions then the van comes to pick us up anytime after 7. Lately its been the bad van... the one where you can see the road through the floor and you can't go over the speed bumps faster than 10mph http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-362832.html Well... it's definitely an adventure Today was my second day at the dive shop... yea But first... last nightI went on a late afternoon dive and by the time I got back to the shop all the other interns had gone home except for my roommate Nick who was out on a night dive. So I waited around for him so we could go home. A bunch of people were going out and since I got home so way late I had already missed them. So I decided hec http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-359787.html What I didnt bring Everyone seems to write an article about what they packed with them. Im more concerned with what I didnt bring. Mostly because it all seems to be spread out among the east coast. So here goes a list of who has whatGrandma two suitcases with coats jackets movies shoesLuiz Three totes of my clothes leftover shoes plus my pink target plastic dresser with more clothes cds and randomsGi http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-359783.html Its a cross between a frat house and a crack house I arrived on Roatan last night. It was dark so all i got to really see was the house. ... Might have done better if it was dark in the house too. There are only 2 girls right now doing the internship and I havent met the other one yet. She is house sitting for one of the instructors while he's in the US so its just me and 7 guys in what can only be described as the frat house from Animal Ho http://www.travelblog.org/Central-America-Caribbean/Honduras/Bay-Islands/Roatan/blog-359474.html Oh CDC Well I've just given myself typhoid. Went to the travelers medical center today over in Foggy Bottom quite nice and got the rundown on all the vaccines the CDC suggests. They even provide a handbook you can read to give yourself nightmares. Its a hypochondriacs wet dream So I got a prescription for malaria pills got an oral vaccine for typhoid and contemplated getting the Hepatitis A shot http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/United-States/District-of-Columbia/Washington/blog-356740.html 12 days So in 12 days I'll be flying to Roatan... in 12 days... well i'll be gross and exhausted so in 13 days i'll be sipping rum on a tropical island watching the sun set over a beautiful blue seaJealous yet The itineraryRoatan and UtilaHondurasEl SalvadorGuatemalaBelizeMom visiting me in BelizeMexicoCuba hopefullyMexico CityPhoenixThen from Phoenix either Southeast Asia or back to RoatanDates are http://www.travelblog.org/North-America/United-States/District-of-Columbia/Washington/blog-355904.html
