Im currently in Caye Caulker and its amazing. The roads are made of white sand. Im in a great little hostel for $10 a night on the beach front. The water is crystal clear and the sun is beating down but with a nice breeze to keep you cool. Im definately staying here for probably another week before heading into Mexico. Everyone speaks English too but after 3 months of trying to speak spanish to the locals I still find myself asking something in Spanish completely forgetting English is the first language here. An easy way to look like a fool. [View Full Entry]

I took a bus from Antigua to Belize City, it left at 6:30pm and arrive the following day at 1pm. Was a long days travelling and with my bad back it wasnt a pleasant trip. Id gone cliff diving in San Pedro and landed akwardly on my back. I stayed another week in Antigua to recover a little but over a week on Im still really sore. Belize City is very run down, most buildings made of wood and its really hard to believe the place is a city. The owner of the hotel took myself and a Norwiegen guy called [View Full Entry]

Another shuttle mid afternoon from Antigua to San Pedro on Lago de Atitlan is where I arrived to one of the nicest places I have seen so far. clear blue water in the lake surrounded by volcanos and mountains. Nice hotel for $3 a night overlooking the lake. The perfect place to sit in a hammock (mans BEST invention ever, no question) and read my books. I really do like it here and started to feel like Belize and Mexico would have nothing to offer but less money in my pocket. I could probably stay here for the next 4 weeks [View Full Entry]

Ive spent about 2 weeks travelling with Ray, a guy from New Zealand who is doing a whole year round the world trip. We set of for Antigua using the shuttle bus straight from the hostel. It seems like the way to travel out here rather than the local buses and its pretty expensive compared to what Ive got used to over the last couple of months. Antigua reminds me of Granada, very nice and old colonial buildings. We met a local guy in a bar on the first night there called Jose. He drove us out to Guatemala City later [View Full Entry]

I visited the Copan ruins today, $15 entry and another $15 to go into the tunnels.I didnt bother with the tunnels. Im very limited to withdrawing money out here so being cautious how I spend now. The ruins were nowhere near as good as I expected and left feeling deflated about whether I should see any others like Tikal but other people have suggested I should. It was nice to climb the main ruins and get a good view of how it all looks from above. I cant imagine how the Mayans lived back then. One of the first things on [View Full Entry]

We had all heard raving reviews of Isla de Ometepe so a few of us made the journey to the island after a couple of nights in San Juan Del Sur. A very easy journey in all although the 2 english girls I was travelling with were very concious of their bags thus wanting to take a taxi everywhere rather than the local buses which made it quite expensive in total but a little quicker. Upon arriving in Santo Domingo we found a nice cheap hostel and stayed for 2 nights. Theres really not much to see or do here. Very [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Granada shortly after leaving Ometepe but again travelling with the English girls it cost me a fortune in taxis. This is where I got my first real taste of what I expected of Central America, its still touristy but has a very authentic feel to the place. I found it really easy to get around and knew a few people in the hostels near by which Id already met in other places so we were able to go out in groups. A group of us went cliimbing the bell tower of the church whilst a funeral was going [View Full Entry]

We got up at 6am and set of to the bus station for the 7am bus. we found our way to Ocotal and changed bus for the border crossing. We reached and crossed the border really easily and hit Honduras around 10am. This is where things got interesting. As soon as we crossed we saw 3 other backpackers who said the buses throughout Honduras we on strike, they had to pay $50 to get to the capital. We didnt like the sound of that idea so we walked to the main road and stuck our hand out. 3 cars later a [View Full Entry]

Me and Ray headed to Copan yesterday, we managed to get a private shuttle for $5 which was nice, no more hitch hiking for the time being. Copan seemed to be bigger than I first imagined it to be and definately a cowboy looking place with everyone wearing the hat, trousers/jeans with big buckles, cobbled streets etc. We are staying in a nice Hotel for $4 a night each which Im considering to be a good deal. Im considering staying here for a couple more nights as it has a nice laid back feel to it and Im not sure where [View Full Entry]

I eventually made my way from Liberia to Nicaragua, the border crossing was a nightmre, 2 hours queuing just to get across but we made it eventually. Getting to the other side was not a nice experience though, being bothered by locals for a taxi who just wouldnt take no for an answer. After hanging around on a street corner for half an hour we managed to get a bus to Rivas which is the next main town/city. We didnt see anything of it though as we got off one bus and straight onto another to San Juan Del Sur. The [View Full Entry]
