Europe » Russia » Northwest » Moscow March 7th 2004

These Russian entries are from the spring break trip taken with my study abroad classmates from Lithuania Christian College. For some reason, the most direct route to Moscow from Western Lithuania was up through Riga, Latvia. We took the bus to Riga (several hours) and stopped for lunch before heading over to the train station. I guess they figured it would be too uncomfortable to leave at around 6am and grab lunch on the go while seeing the city. Thus, we rolled through some parts of Riga and went directly to the station without so much as a glimpse at the major sights. From arrival on, the train ride was a blast from the past. The station had the aura of a soviet people transfer depot, and when the train arrived and the cabin service attendants ... read more

Europe » Sweden » Stockholm County » Stockholm February 15th 2004

A classmate from the program in Lithuania and I choose to spend the Valentines Day weekend in Scandinavia, and concluded our 4 day stay in Sweden. We flew from Malmo in the south, and split up to find our separate ways in Stockholm. Lodging that the legendary sail boat hostel was too rich for our blood, so we walked across the city to another floating hostel, the Gustaf af Klint. Ha, and those snobs at the sail boat thought their hostel was so special because it floated. Well, we got a private room for less! It pays to shop around, and walk in the cold while you are hungry. Of special enjoyment in Stockholm was the Army Museum and Royal Palace. The art gallery was interesting, and in a really nice location if you were seeing ... read more

Europe » Denmark » Region Hovedstaden » Copenhagen February 12th 2004

After much discussion amongst the exchange students in Lithuania, it came down to Priscila and I going to Scandinavia for the Valentines Day Weekend. We both wanted to go to Copenhagen, and since we were going to be flying into Southern Sweden anyway, we decided to shoot up to Stockholm for the end of the trip. After taking the ‘flybus’ from Malmo, we wondered over to the Hotel Jorgensen, one metro stop north of the main station at Norreport. Great place, about $20 with a full breakfast buffet incl. Unfortunately, all my pics save for 8 loaded onto a photo sight were lost. While in Copenhagen, we were able to take in quite a bit of the city sights, art galleries, royal palace, WWII resistance museum, first castle, and of course, the little mermaid. We saw ... read more

Europe » Lithuania » Vilnius January 6th 2004

E-mail sent almost a year ago, has the combo of pictures, text and Country info at the bottom. This is the same one, but with a bit more info. The other message randomly sent itself before I was done. Greeting from Kliapeda, Lithuania. Klaipeda is the third largest city in the country, is on the coast, and will be my hometown for the next four months. Since this is the first news of my trip I have been able to send out, let me backtrack a bit. The flight in was nice, and staff greeted me right at baggage claim when I arrived in Vilnius (always nice when one arrives in the middle of nowhere and things go as planned.) The couple of days we spent in Vilnius were very nice. It had snowed for the ... read more

The following entries are from/during my semester in Lithuania. I have copied some information from the program website so as to place the entries into somewhat of a timeline and to give some background info on the program. LCC LCC (Lithuania Christian College) is a nationally and internationally recognized liberal arts university.
