| 1st September 2005 Joel Dejoux | developpement help or alterity quest - From: EWB and The GSP Your diary is very interresting on two ways: First of all it is full of remarquable pictures that are usefull, nice, and sometimes moving. It is a good show of your job and of the country (I've visited few times south and central philippines) But overall, it has a quite good reflection and analysis on how to provide developpement to poorer countries. Reading your words, from your weekly reports, we can see that sometimes you are doubting on how to do (you say : "We must speak only when we are sure it is usefull". And however the reader can see that in fact you set the common way of western civilisation sometimes consciouly and with regrets ("in future we plan to buy computers from Asia"), and sometimes without willing and a little ingenuously (e.g. when you find good to give english lyrics to your scout girls team ... so that the scout practice that have been appropriated to local people returns to the foreign western world...) So, at the end, and for your own, can you tell if this kind of support to developpement is the right way or if it must go more through local involvement? |
