Thanks! We are! - From: Jin Ji Lake
Each time we have been to Jinji Lake (actually 4 times now, but the first was just for lunch) we learn about something new, it will take quite a few more trips to experience it all! Next time we go to Suzhou, we may stay in a hotel right on the lake. Tell Charlotte we said "Hi"

vehicles - From: A Walk Along Shantang Street
Those are called pedicabs, they are an alternative to a taxi if you're going a shorter distance. Leah is planning to do a blog entry soon about the different types of transportation.

I think I forgot to mention that they do this show Friday and Saturday nights, I'm not sure how long in the season they go though.

Taxis????? - From: A Walk Along Shantang Street
Are the open-air red vehicles (with the drivers "on break") their taxis? I like the canal area - kind of like a boardwalk with all its unique shops, etc.

Another wow! - From: Holidays in Suzhou
I sure hope my comments went through on your post about the opera, etc., and the garden. :-) Leah looks like the executive in this blog. haha Mooncake and Fruitcake....too funny. Have they ever heard of Moonpies? No duck eggs in the middle, but they may be tastier. ;-) Loving the blogs!!! xoxo Carol (and John)

Hi! - From: Our flight, arrival and first day in Nanqiao
So glad to see you arrived safely, Linda! It is easier the 2nd time, when things are more familiar, isn't it? When we went back to Germany, it felt like we had never left (though it's been an even shorter time lapse for you, hasn't it?).

oops forgot to say - From: Dragon Boat Festival
Do you think you ate a taro? It's sort of gray to purple? It's super starchy like a potato. But who knows. China has such a wealth of amazing produce!

zong zi balloons! - From: Dragon Boat Festival
Those balloons are wonderful! I love zong zi, but I prefer them savory. Where I live, people like them sweet. Thanks for sharing this wonderful info about Dragon Boat Festival. My city, although on a big river, had NO dragon boat racing. What a shame. These cultural elements are slowly being lost.

Playground - From: Guhua Park
Actually, there was some, but I was having camera battery problems that I was trying to fix while Leah was playing, so didn't take pics of it. It was much simpler than our playgrounds. There was also an amusement park area with merry go round, bumper cars, kiddie rides & an arts & crafts area. We plan to go back with Jim and will get more pics. I realized afterwards that I also had a smudge on my lens so there's a blurry spot on all the photos.

family transportation - From: Suzhou - Hotel area and Walking Street
I don't know that I'll have a chance to see a cow/water buffalo or whatever in the city! But, why do we in America think we need a minivan to transport a family when they fit a family of 4 on a bicycle???????

Lots of workers - From: Suzhou - Hotel area and Walking Street
I think they are always that way, there are workers everywhere. It is all much cleaner than I expected and beautifully landscaped! Groups of older ladies working on gardens all over. When you go into a store, there are clerks standing everywhere too, sometimes 4 in a group - no shortage of help - if only they spoke English!

American restaurants - From: Jim's first day at work
The larger the city, the more foreigners and the more Western restaurants. I think even in the area where we are there is McD's, KFC, Subway and Burger King. I never eat at these at home, but think I'll have to check them out here out of curiosity. Thanks for the tadpole update!

Memories! - From: Suzhou - Hotel area and Walking Street
Oh, the memories all these pictures bring back. I had to laugh at your comment about how much the Chinese can fit on a bike - wait till you see what they can get on one of their cows (I can't remember if they are water buffalos). What a great weekend! You are certainly making the most of your time there.

suzhou pictures - From: Suzhou - Hotel area and Walking Street
All the streets and sidewalks look so clean! Not a bit of litter in sight. I wonder if they were swept and scrubbed for their holiday, or if they are always that way.

Linda and Leah we are enjoying your blog so much. You seem to be settling right in. It is amazing to me that there are so many "American" restaurants there. It also sounds like the company is treating you all like royalty! Are you going to want to come home?! The tadpoles are growing legs...but they still miss you guys :)
