I can't believe how easy it was to get to the airport! After our very confused trip out of Boston 2 weeks ago, this was a breeze. We dumped off the car, caught the shuttle, caught the plane, caught another plane and landed on time in Colorado Springs. AND, the Blazer didn't have a flat tire like it did when we got back from Alaska. Sweet. We picked up the dogs from Steph's, got home about 6:00 pm where the cats were very happy to see us and..... that's all folks. It was the best trip ever. ... read more

.....or (ominous organ music....dunt dun dunnnn) Motel Hell. But before that. We had our typical continental breakfast that was a little upper scale. They had hard boiled eggs. Whooooo! After breakfast we stopped at the visitor's center at the Minuiteman Historical Site and walked along the path that the Minutemen took in fighting General Gage. "The Shot Heard Round the World". I was wondering how much of the actual battleground had changed since the actual battle. It is hard to tell. We stopped in the small town of Concord and walked around for a little while and then decided to drive back to Salem (yes we are gluttons for punishment) and see some of the touristy stuff like the Witch Museum. So we braved the traffic again, parked and walked to the museum. The place is ... read more

Got up this morning and headed toward Massachusetts. We haven't decided where we'll stay tonight but we're thinking somewhere around Salem. We plan to be in Freeport, Maine at around lunch time and I plan on my last lobster dinner at Harrakeets. And that is pretty much what we did. Lobster was good and the owner gave me some hints on how to eat lobster like a professional. Also how to eat clams without the grittiness of sand (and all the time I thought that bowl of water was a fingerbowl) by dipping each piece of clam in the water then butter then eat. After lunch Cal wanted to see the Delorme headquarters. To those (like me) who haven't had a clue as to what Delorme is, Delorme makes maps. David Delorme founded the company in ... read more

Our ferry didn't depart from Digby until 1:30 pm so we had quite a bit of time to kill before then. The first thing we did was go to the ferry dock and get reservations for the afternoon ferry. They told us that we could come back later and pick up our tickets and then wait in line at around noon or so. We decided to explore the islands a bit and also try to find the basalt cliffs and balancing rock. We drove south through Digby neck, crossed by ferry to Long Island and traveled to the opposite side of the island and crossed another ferry at Brier Island. We drove around for a while but the little towns along here were pretty run down and there didn't appear to be too much to do. ... read more

As I am journaling I've found that the map module on travelblog is no longer working. Every time I try to access a map or make a new one the whole website crashes. Grrrrrrrr. I'm hoping this will be fixed soon because I keep forgetting where I am without the map. We had breakfast with another couple from the US. They were from New Jersey and had also traveled to CBI and Baddeck to look into purchasing a summer home there. I'm jealous. Today we will head west to Digby. As much as I wanted to go around the southern part of Nova Scotia I have to admit I lost that battle and without that much of a fight. I think I'm getting a little toured out and am starting to set my sights on home..... ... read more

We are heading for Halifax this morning. Ordinarially we've avoided big cities but there were a couple of things that I found in the guide books that sounded interesting and since it is on our way to Peggy's Cove (supposedly another must see place) it seemed like a good idea. First we did our laundry. There was a laundromat in downtown Truro. It took us about an hour to get it all washed and dried. It was nice to have clean clothes again. We got in to Halifax at about 10:30 or so. Both of the places we wanted to visit were right on the waterfront about 3 blocks away from each other which made it convenient. The first place was a glass blowing factory that was highly recommended. They blow glass right on the premises ... read more

A little about Baddeck. Both Cal and I loved this area. Baddeck is on a lake called Bras d'Or (pronounced roughly "bra-door") which is French for arm of gold. It is a large lake right in the center of CBI that is actually an arm of the Atlantic and so salty. There is lobster and commercial fishing. Baddeck is home to many recreational boaters and there were several marinas in the area. Many of the cottages are vacation homes for people living in Sydney and Halifax. It is a very pretty little village. We have considered retiring here although I'd like to see a winter before I make a decision like that. We had a nice conversation with our fellow B & B residents during breakfast and then it was off to the Bell Museum. The ... read more

No continental breakfast for us. This motel didn't even have a coffee maker so being the caffeine fiends that we are we were up, dressed and packed in record time. We went into downtown Inverness and found a local restaurant where we had breakfast...good old fashioned eggs, bacon, toast with not a muffin or bagel or a continental anything in sight. We drove up and down the main street of this tiny town and then set off for the coast road to Cape Breton Highlands National Park along the Cabot Trail. Our destination is Baddeck, home of Alexander Graham Bell. We will be driving the west coast which is the St. Lawrence Gulf, over the top of the park and then on the easten shore of the Atlantic. My understanding is that the interior of the ... read more

We woke up, got dressed and went down to breakfast. We met our Winnipeg friends in the dining room and had breakfast together. After breakfast we packed, took all of our luggage to the car and said goodbye to PEI. We originally were going double back and go by way of the Confederation bridge back to New Brunswick and then to Nova Scotia however, after some investigating we decided to take the car ferry. It was $20.00 more than the bridge and it seemed like it would be fun to go that way and it would place us a little farther east in Nova Scotia which was a good thing. So ferry it was. They really get you when you visit PEI. The toll for the bridge is $40.00 but you don't pay it until you ... read more

After our yummy Wendys breakfast we decided to go back down to the wharf to see if we had missed anything yesterday....not much. We stopped briefly at the wharf and at an information center and decided that Charlottetown didn't offer that much more than we'd already seen and so we'd head west to check out a couple of lighthouses and some wind farms. I am semi interested in seeing Cavendish which is the home of Anne of Green Gables. Not ever having read the book as a kid this doesn't have the appeal that say the Alps of Heidi and I'm told is pretty tourist-y so we'll see. Time as always is the enemy and if we can do it tomorrow we will...but it isn't a priority. I forgot to mention, Canada has lots of information ... read more
