Quick update from the Bangkok airport. Mark and I rented scooters yesterday and headed up into the mountains while the girls shopped in the city. A bit unnerving in the Chiang Mai traffic at first, but we got used to it fairly quickly. Beautiful day for a ride up the mountain (Doi Suthep). Halfway up there is a temple, very nice but not as interesting as the ones in the city. Might feel a little more spiritual if there were fewer tourists smoking. Continued up the mountain on a windy, delapidated road. Unreal views throughout. Near the top is a coffee [View Full Entry]

Hi all, Anna Kate again. We're continuing to enjoy Chiang Mai. Today is our last day here unfortunatley but looking ahead we can't complain... after all, it is almost BEACH TIME. Which is what I've been looking forward to most - swimming, snorkeling, boat rides, waterfalls, etc. Colin described yesterday's adventures perfectly. The rafting was definitely the best part. It was nice to get wet both from the major down pour and the river. We woke up this morning (Wednesday, I think) and Krystle and I noticed our faces were just a touch itchy. Looking in the mirror we had huge [View Full Entry]

This will be a long one, since I have the camera here and will post some pictures if I can. But first - here's our phone number. 011 66 80 6005 509 (this is exactly what you need to dial from canada). Keep in mind that we're 9 and a half hours ahead of newfoundland time. Here are a few pictures from our first couple of days. You can click on them to see the full size (i think...) So to continue from the last post - The massage was...different. Traditional thai massage doesn't really conform to our Canadian version. It's [View Full Entry]

We went to a women's prison to get a massage (part of their work release program), but they were too busy. Instead, we're at the massage parlour where the inmates work after they're released. Very nice and fancy, we're getting hour long full body massages for 180 baht ($3) Spent the morning exploring Chiang Mai - beautiful city. We mostly visited the Buddhist temples (wats) which are incredible. Will post pictures when we get our USB cord from the hotel. Will also give a list of the names. Tomorrow we've booked a day of elephant riding, mountain biking, and white water [View Full Entry]

We finally get a few minutes to sit down with the internet. So a brief run through of our first few days Left St. John's on Thursday, with an overnight stop in Toronto. We met up with Luke and Phil and spent the night visiting some of our old haunts in the Annex. Nothing had really changed, and it was great to spend some time in the old neighbourhood. Drinks were had (and enjoyed) at Future Bakery and the Green Room. Early the next morning, we got some breakfast at our old favourite, By the Way Cafe. The waitress enjoyed the [View Full Entry]

Hi all, Anna Kate here. Well I had to laugh at Colin's post. By "some sweating more that others", was a polite way of saying "my girlfriend is a sweaty mess." Actually, it isn't that bad and is definitely better than I thought it would be. The flight, as Colin said, was definitely a long one. If anyone has seen the new movie Wall-E, they will know what I'm talking about when I say I felt like one of the humans from the future, who sit in a floating wheelchair all day and eat food and get entertained by little tvs. [View Full Entry]
