After the long drive yesterday, that took us into the wee hours of the morning, we decided to sleep-in this morning ! We thought "why not" it's not like we're in a big hurry to get anywhere and I don't think the Wal-Mart police were going to run us off anytime soon. I guess you can say we slept okay last night considering that we were scrunched in between Jerry's All Night Lounge and Peter Pipers 24 Hour Pizza Parlor !! Tim stayed up for a little while last night searching the open skies for any form of life he could find with no avail. It was really dark outside when we woke up this morning in Holbrook and that could only mean one thing in Arizona, RAIN, RAIN and more RAIN !! We forced ourselves to get up even though we wanted to lay in bed all morning and listen to the rain beating down on the roof. By the time Tim finished unhooking everything on the RV, the rain had slowed a little, so we decided to stay at the KOA and enjoy some of their all-you-can-eat pancakes. Another beautiful morning in a Wal-Mart parking lot !! I had to fight my inner shopping demons, but I won, I was thiiiiiis close to a Wal-Mart but I didn't go in ! I decided to sit at the dinette table and finish up some last minute post cards while Tim showered and prepared us for take-off. We hopped on Highway 550 and drove south about 45 miles where we crossed over into New Mexico and landed in Aztec. We went straight to the welcome center just as we had in many cities before. Can you imagine getting up at 7:30 in the morning and looking out the window to see little ducks crossing the dirt road and horses playing with each other in the grassy fields ? We covered a lot of ground yesterday and boy did we feel it when we hit the sack last night in Moab, Utah ! We were both so exhausted I don't think we even remember falling asleep. The heat out here is so different than back at home, it's not as humid but it is hot as fire. The sun is so bright you can't even hardly open your eyes without sunglasses on and it just beams down on you like rays of fire. Much to our surprise it was freezing cold last night !! I had to get up in the middle of the night and actually turn on the heat. I will never understand how it can be 101 degrees during the day and 35 degrees at night. We had picked up a huge homemade cinnamon roll at the Majestic View Lodge yesterday, so I heated it in the microwave and we shared it for breakfast. Can you believe we've been on the road for 30 days ?? Today is our one month anniversary, it's officially been 30 days since we left Stockbridge and we're still going strong !! Once again this day would bring us more of this great land to discover. As I was making sausage, egg and cheese croissants for breakfast, Tim was washing the front of the motor home and we were preparing for our departure. I woke up this morning with no earthly idea what today held for me ! Tim and I got up bright and early this morning and headed across the parking lot to the National Geographic Visitor's Center. We were just in time for the next viewing of the Grand Canyon IMAX Movie and we were looking forward to learning all about it. Tim bought our tickets while I got in line for some popcorn and drinks (breakfast). Ahhhhhhhh !! The air conditioning started working sometime during the day yesterday so Tim was able to get a cool good nights sleep. He was going to need it because we were planning on making the trip all the way to the Grand Canyon today without stopping. We packed up everything and headed towards the elevators only to find that three of the six were not working this morning. I thought to myself, what else is going to happen ??
