Hi, Folks! Just wanted to give you a quick update on our trip. After a great train ride on Friday from Berwick Upon Tweed, we landed in Greenock. There was absolutely nothing to do there so we checked out the next morning and headed for Glasgow. Today (Sunday) we took a bus tour to Loch Lomond, Aberfoyle, & Sterling Castle. It was a great photo taking day and I can’t wait to share them all. Tomorrow we head for Edinburgh and then home very early Tuesday morning. That’s all assuming that the big storm set to hit the southern coast of the UK doesn’t shut down the airport in London. If it does, I may be a little late getting home. Cindy & Brooke... read more

Hi to all you travelers living vicariously through me. This is blog #1 from Brooke because well lets face it I am a lazy kinda girl. Flight here was never ending and fairly uncomfortable but they did keep us very fed whch was nice. When we arrived we were met by our scottish driver named Andrea, she could talk a mile a minute but had a hard time talking and driving, I thought we might die at least 4 times. Sleep was on the agenda for day one. Day 2 cold and windy but sunny. Went to a beauty of a castle and saw incredible sea views and ate some scones and tea. We Drove across a road that is covered with 4 ft of water ½ the day. That night ate at a traditinal scottish ... read more

Day 1 - Cindy DC to Edinburgh: Had no problem with the first two legs of my flight. Planes were flying on time and the 777 I flew in from Raleigh to London was barely 1/3 full so we all had plenty of room to stretch out. We even got a meal! I haven’t had that on a plane for a while. Each seat had individual video on demand so there was quite a selection of movies to choose from. It was a new system and the attendants were just learning to use it so, more than halfway through watching the movie “August Rush”, the attendant went to reset one passenger’s movie and ended up resetting the entire plane. We all had to start watching our movies from the beginning. Oh well, if that’s the worst ... read more

March 2nd 2008

Well I made it to Raleigh and will soon get on the plane for London's Gatwick Airport. Brooke made it at least as far as Seattle but since I don't have my cell phone, I will trust that she is now on her way to Amsterdam. I have 3 photos to share and this may be the last time to make an entry for a day or two. Wish us luck!!!!... read more

March 1st 2008

OK...last day at work was yesterday and I feel fairly confident that I'm not leaving a big mess for LTC Boatman, Erv, and Nizelky. I have had the most wonderful news in regards to the trip. Russ Huard, a LtCol who used to work in my office, lives in Lakenheath, England and is going to come by Kirk Yetholm and act as tour guide for a couple of days! This negates the need to get a rental car and hopefully he'll let me practice driving. His cousin, Lisa, is visiting from the states and they are coming up Tue & Wed then heading on to the North of Scotland. They may meet up with us again in Edinburgh on our last day. Except for making sure that we have transportation and lodging, the prior planning for ... read more

First of all I guess I should have been putting the location of where I am right now, not where I plan to be next Monday. Guess I'll go back and change the previous entries. I am posting a couple of photos of my "altered suitcase" that I just completed. This is an idea that I've had for quite a while...well, ever since I started traveling quite often and noticed that the entire traveling population of the world had gone out and purchased the exact same luggage that I owned. I thought, "I love to craft. I love to alter objects. Why don't I alter my suitcase?" So I did. This first one is a trial...I'll see how it holds up before I do a really extensive 'alteration' on a better looking suitcase. This one is ... read more

So I've selected my luggage and I'm 'touching it up a bit'. This means that I'm making it very visual so I can find it easily on the luggage carousel. Of course it may turn out so well that it gets stolen, too! What I've done is used fabric paint and rubber stamps to create a scene on my bags. I'll add a photo as soon as they are done. I've decided to take two medium bags rather than 1 large one. With the weight restrictions, I figured it would allow me to bring back more treasures. I'm packing very light for the trip over. I travel so much with my job that I can do a week's worth of stateside business travel with 1 carry on suitcase and my computer bag. Of course it's the ... read more
