Egypt in 13 days...... Starting off in Cairo and visiting the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx - don't think I need to describe how amazing it was to see them! And how fantastic it was taking a camel ride around the Pyramids in the Sahara? An overnight train took us down to Aswan, not the height of luxury but quite an adventure. The hotel in Aswan was really quite cool, from the window of our hotel room we looked out over the hotel swimming pool, the Nile and the Sahara Dessert! We visited the Philae Temple and the High Dam but the trip to Abu Simbel didn't happen - for no apparent reason all the flights there were cancelled! The next two nights were spend aboard a felucca, two lovely relaxing days cruising up the ... read more

A day in Colonia - 10th November 2007. A 50 minute fast ferry takes you to Colonia, Uruguay. We had a lovely day wandering the streets, it's pretty and very peaceful. ... read more
Iguazu Falls - 2nd - 5th November 2007 We spent one day at the Argentina side of the falls and half a day at the Brazilian side. Totally amazing and sooooooo much water! On our arrival day it was raining and quite cool, we were worried, Iguazu has a sub tropical climate and gets really hot and humid - that is what we were expecting and hoping for! Thankfully the sun shone the next day.....we took a trip in the Parque Nacional Iguazu which started with an 8 km truck ride through the jungle with a guide explaining the flora and fauna of the park. Next we boarded a speed boat and sped off towards Iguazu Falls! We sped over rapids and rounded a bend....WOW what a totally awesome sight! Huge falls and LOADS of them! ... read more
25th - 27th October 2007. A few towns in Chile..... The first town we arrived at was called Entre Lagos, we needed Chilean Pesos, luckily this small town had a bank and an ATM. But it was a very small and poor town, all the houses looked like wooden shacks. We found a café and had a great chicken, avocado and tomato sandwich…makes a change from the usual cheese and ham sandwiches in Argentina! We decided to drive to Osorno, again it seemed a very poor town and not particularly pleasant, so we decided to keep going and drove another 200kms, (by the end of the day we clocked up 400kms) to Punto Montt. We were expecting a bit of a tourist town but it was another run down, polluted and very busy city. We drove ... read more
Bariloche - 24th - 30th October (except 25th & 26th in Chile) Described as Argentina’s Lake District….another beautiful place, snow capped mountains, lakes and lagoons. A popular skiing destination but unfortunately the slopes had closed 5 days before we arrived. Lago Nahuel Huapi is over 100km long and covers an area of 500 sq meters, seems to be a popular place for kite surfing and wind surfing. Bariloche is a very pretty town, lots of wooden Swiss style building and it is famous for its chocolate. We stayed there one night then hired a car with the intension of driving the Siete Lagos Route, which as the name suggests it takes in the sights of seven lakes! Unfortunately, there is one part of the road which is unsealed for 10km. We were merrily driving along this ... read more
El Calafate 21st - 24th October 2007 WOW.......is really all I can say about Perito Moreno Glacier.... The scenery was amazing from the plane window, the lake is massive and the mountains huge....El Calafate is an interesting town, no town planning seems to have taken place and there are buildings dotted about the landscape with lots more being developed. But it´s a nice town..rather more expensive than other places but I guess it survives on tourism alone pretty much. My hostel was lovely, very friendly staff, warm and clean - Lago Argentino Hostel. I booked to go horseriding on the day I arrived. That was lovely (very cold!) we rode up quite a high hill and the views were stunning, you could see a mountain in Chile. After a couple of hours riding we had dinner, ... read more
17th - 21st October 2007 Puerto Madryn.....whales, dolphins, penguins and more....A big tea pot....And lots of long bus journeys! I arrived at Trelew airport to barren landscape, very windy weather and not much else....did have to wonder where I was! The bus trip to town took about an hour. I stayed in Hostel El Refugio, which was ok, the staff are very friendly and it's clean, my only issues were that my private bathroom was a short walk across the garden, and I went clubbing every night....not literally but it felt like it because there was a club right next door.....!! Anyway...the wildlife..... Tour 1 - Punta Tombo, we cover about 200kms this day. There is a reserve where you walk along pathways right in between the penguins, some of the burrows are right next to ... read more
Tigre & The Delta - 15th October 2007 Waterways, stilted houses, quite walks along riverside pathways....restaurants and great Vino Blanco!! We took the train up to Tigre and hopped on a river taxi which dropped us at a lovely point on the Delta. We strolled along the peaceful pathways admiring the quaint houses and happened upon an enticing restaurant.....the steak was great, the intestines were not so tasty!! But the wine....well it was so good we just had to keep ordering more and more! We ended up staggering about the Delta and having such great fun.....we took a taxi back to Buenos Aires and continued the night drinking cocktails in PuertoZuelo until the small hours....but there are no photos from the evening!!!! A fantastic day out and a few sore heads the following morning....... ... read more
Mallorca Europe » Spain » Mallorca By cheryl_r July 10th 2007 Cheryl 25th May - 2nd June and 15th - 18th June 2007 Have been over to Mallorca a couple of times now and think it is just lovely. The first time I stayed in the North at Puerto Pollensa, which was rather family orientated and had a good beach and plenty of restaurants serving very tasty fresh fish. The second time I stayed in Palma, which is a really nice city, the cathedral is stunning and the old town is really pretty to wander around. The streets are really clean and quite quaint! I also tasted the best calamari ever in Palma. The boats in the harbours are just amazing....how can I get to meet t... read more
