Well, I haven't seen any elephants. ...but that's not what I came here to talk about! We're heading out of Laos tomorrow and back into the Land-of-the-Thai. Still have a week and a bit left till England, and I'm not sure of what to do next! (Suggestions anyone?) I really really really don't want to hang around Bangkok. Vientiane!? What happens? There is nothing here! It's a street... with a couple of Tuk-tuks... and a restaurant or two... and that's...about...it! We're heading down to Si Pan Don- or the Four Thousand Islands tonight, which should be nice. It's near the Cambodian border where the Mekong is 14 KM WIDE, and is split up with... surprise surprise... Four Thousand Islands! well, here i am in a comfortable internet cafe in vang vieng- contrary to most of what lonely planet said! (no power, no internet my arse!) it's raining wonderful tropical rain outside and i'm nice and fresh after a HoT shower- (that's right lonely, they have hot water too!) and a nap in my $1 a night luxury room! i went tubing down the river song today and it was absolutely beautiful. found out about the wwoofing as well- turns out that you actually have to pay vast sums of money on accommodation and food (more than in town) in order [View Full Entry]

After two days of sitting on my arse on the slow boat to Luang Prabang I am strangely exhausted. Strange because there was bugger all to do for 8 hours at a time, and nowhere to go past about a 30cm radius. At one stage a few of us got on the roof, but were promptly told to get off by powers that be. Good thing, though as it started raining and didn't stop for 48 hours. Well two days and 1000 kms of bus and train later, and I'm sitting here in Chiang Khong on the Mekong River right up in the Golden Triangle. Laos is literally 100m away from our guesthouse (or however wide the river is) and we'll be heading there at 8:30 tomorrow morning. I found out about a place in Vang Vieng (about 100 or so k's north of Vientiane) that does WWOOFing, and I might look into doing that for a week or so! Back in Bangkok again, sitting in a bar on Khao San Road with a gin and tonic... ahh. (free internet too! bonus!) I left gorgeous Ko Pha Ngan yesterday along with my gorgeous bungalow and gorgeous girl... Left Phi Phi on Sunday (sunday? i think so... what day is it now? is this a weekday?) ...anyway, I'm now on Ko Pha Ngan, which is about 300k's or so north east and on the other side of Thailand- above Ko Samui. It's very much the party island (just in case I didn't already get my fill on Phi Phi!! AGH!) but I've been having a bit of a chill for a couple of days.
