Gettings from Southern Thailand where we have been for about 2 weeks. First on the W coast at Phuket swimming in the warm blue Andaman Sea. Then we travel to a beautiful area around Phan Ngan and went out wher the James Bond 'Man With the Golden Gun' was filmed years ago. None of us remember the film, but maybe some of you do. The area is dotted with beautiful islands and we hired a longtail fishing boat to take us out to various islands and a particularily interesting Muslim floating fishing village. The area around Phangnam is beautiful with soaring rock formations and misty clouds. The town itself was very low key (no tourists) and in the evening we ate from wonderful food stalls at the local night market. We are now over in the ... read more

Hi I'm going to try to add photos and worry about adding comments later. Included are some photos of us in Phnom Penh with our Cambodian Teachers that we worked with, the US Ambassaor to Cambodia, dinner at the Foreign Correspondents Club in PP along the Mekong River, the Royal Palace in PP and then we went up north to the country around Kratie to see Irrawaddy freshwater dolphin. We had a very interesting time in the markets and our host at the guesthouse that we stayed in took us to his home where his sister and wife shared their cooking skills with us. We bought a large fish and vegetables from the market and we had a cooking and eating session with his family for lunch. Now, I'l just see if this works with photos... ... read more

Wait there's more! I guess you can not write forever on this blog.. I ran out of room. ..Hummm musn't like me rambling... Anyway after my temple visit I wandered along the river. Phnom Penh is built where the Mekong, Tongle Sap and Bassac Rivers join. I had lunch at a cafe while watching the river traffic. Very busy with barges, ferries and lots of skinny little long boats skittering between banks. The river is fast flowing and dirty brown. Don't look down along the river''s edge there is garbage, dead rats and all sort of debris and then there are people washing, casting nets and fishing... After a delicious lunch of cold spring rolls wrapped in that wet white rice paper and a Khmer pancake which is similar to the Vietnamese pancake (omlette looking) filled ... read more

Greetings From Cambodia and Lovin' It! Here is my first entry in this travel blog. I love Asia and Cambodia in particular. The people are lovely and the sights, sounds, smells are a fantastic blend. I arrived yesterday and am staying in a simple ($5) per night guesthouse along the river. Clean and simple with a double bed, ceiling fan toilet/shower attached. Well, an asian toilet/shower which means that you step down into a tiled area and with a hose you do your business into the asian squat toilet and then hose everything off. It is cold water which feels refreshing! Today I got up early and headed for the Russian Market to buy school supplies, pencil cases, etc for my classes starting Monday. Before I left the guest house I ordered what sounded like a ... read more

Greetings Friends, I am in my kitchen preparing my first Travel Blog. I am intrigued by this technology and hope that it will be easy to use as I travel. If not, I'll go back to my infrequent emails. Vince bought me a whizbang digital camera from his recent trip to the USA, so hopefully I'll be able to add photos to this journey that I am taking. I have really enjoyed Kate and Ryan's travel blog but I am a bit apprehensive in that they are 'digital natives' and I certainly am a 'digital migrant' so therefore new to this technology. So here goes!... read more
