One of the most captivating sights of Hvar has nothing to do with infrastructures. As you may have noticed, from the previous post—or this one—that the sunsets here are quite amazing. On Friday I took a ferry from Split to Hvar Town on Hvar island. It was raining in Split so I had on a few layers, but as we approached the island I started to bake and took off my jackets. We landed and even before I was off the boat I was negotiating a price for accommodation. Now that I had an idea of what I wanted and what I wanted to pay for it, I felt better telling them no. I slept most of the night on the ferry, but woke up just before daybreak. I was lucky enough to snap a picture and take in the Croatian air before we landed. Once I got through immigration I was bombarded with room offers. One of them said something and I didn’t really understand what she was saying so I asked her what she said. I arrived in Ancona early in the morning via train. I booked it out of Trieste when I wasn’t having any luck finding a place to stay and had to change trains three different times, pretty standard. I was glad to get off the train though. First on my agenda was to find the next ferry to Split. I found the port without a problem but ran into one when the office was closed. My plane arrived in Bergamo at about 9:30. The two guys next to me where going to hike some mountains around the area and wished me the best on my journey to Croatia. I could hardly understand one of them because he used so much English slang…I couldn't keep up. Maddelana was going to meet me at the gate, something I was little worried about—because I had no idea where I was going and we arrived early. excuse my geographic misspellings. So I woke up about 5 am to find some drunk Germans trying to fly on each other. One was lying on the others stomach and flapped his arms while making an outrageous kawing sound. It was pretty funny. I met Nate and Michelle at the bus stop and we got some coffee. It was nice. We got all day rail passes and went for some site seeing. I pretended to be their guide, but we ended up running into the Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. I took a lot of photos. The flight was LONG! I slept for quite a while, but bugs were crawling through my skin and I wanted to stand and walk around to try and shake them out. I got off the plane and followed the signs. We must have walked a mile around the airport before we finally made it to immigration. The lady gave some grief because I didn't have an address for my first night, but she let me through.
