This past Sunday I went on the Whisky trail with the International Society. It was amazing! We first went to Huntly Castle in...Huntly about an hour and a half NW of Aberdeen. Huntly Castle is (according to my guidebook) made up from an original 12th century motte, built by an Earl of Fife, and palace block from the 16th century, added by a governor (sorry I don't remember who). It was really amazing. Not the biggest set of ruins but still impressive. On the main stairs is some ornamentation of the coat of arms that represent the Governor who built the palace section of the Castle. Outside the castle the foundations of the earlier structure could be seen. My favorite part of the ruins was the cobbled ground where you could see how the wall were ... read more

Well, I officially fail at staying on top of Blog entries. It has been about two weeks since Easter Holidays. I should probably tell you about my stay in Bath. Let me just say it is probably one of my favorite places I have been to while here. It was so gorgeous! I also had a great time with my friend Erin. We were only there for about a day but in that day we fit in so much. We took the train from London on the morning of March 31st and arrived in Bath at around 10am. The first place we went after dropping our stuff off at Bath Backpackers Hostel was the Roman Bath house/temple. It was so cool to see the inside of the bath house. I could have spent the whole day ... read more

The Second stop on my travels around the UK during Easter Break was London. I only had three days in London two of which were at the beginning of my journey into Southern England and Wales. At first Erin, the girl I was traveling with, and I didn't know if we were going to be able to make it to everything that we wanted to see. But, I am getting ahead of myself. Our journey actually started in Aberdeen where the two of us got on a train (with our AMAZING) Britrail passes and took a seven hour train ride to London's King Cross station. Now, why I mention this is because it was still an amazing realization that we traveled nearly the length of the Island in the time (roughly) that it takes me to ... read more

Well, Sorry I haven't updated this in a long time. I just got back from Easter Holidays and have finally gotten around to uploading photos and other stuff like that. My first stop on my trip was to Edinburgh. That was a lot of fun. I stayed with one of my flat-mates, who also showed me around to a lot of places. I still haven't seen Edinburgh Castle but I will be going back there sometime soon since I still have some travel days left on my Britrail pass. While I was there though we went to a lot of places. I really enjoyed going to the Scot Monument. The Scott Monument was dedicated to Sir Walter Scott and you can climb to almost the very top of the spire. It was really cool and actually ... read more

HEHE! Last Night I went to my first Ceilidh (Kay-lee). It was so much fun. Unfortunately for you all I forgot my camera so there won't be any pictures in this entry. But still. The basic set up was in a long hall (called Elphinstone) and at the front was a Scottish band, who before each dance taught the HUGE group of people the dance steps to the song about to be played. It was amazing and so much fun. I felt like I was in a Jane Austen Book at a dance/ball. I got to wear a skirt and got REALLY ridiculously sweaty from so much dancing. I have also decided that I will have to buy a ton of Scottish music and teach you all the steps. I am going to another one this ... read more

Last Weekend I went to the Borders with the International Society and got to see a lot of really beautiful places in both Scotland and England. The first stop was Rosslyn Chapel, from "The DaVinci Code" for those of you who read it. The Chapel was absolutely gorgeous but unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures of the inside of it. I bought a lot of postcards for the inside pictures though. It was absolutely amazing. The original Chapel was built out of Sandstone if I remember correctly. So it was a lot of different colors within the chapel. But a mixed blessing cam along in the form of the Victorians who came in to restore the chapel by painting over the very soft stone with CONCRETE!!!!!! NOOOOO!!!!!! By painting it with concrete the Victorians successfully ... read more

Well, It has been almost three weeks now that I have been here. Dang. time has flown. I don't have much to say. Last weekend I went to see Loch Ness. It was SO beautiful. The day was a little gray but it somehow fit the waters we saw. I went with the International society and stopped first at the Loch Ness Exhibition site and were walked through something like an early nineties presentation that tried to be realistic and serious but failed miserably... I did learn some stuff there but what was really cool was going to Urquhart's Castle. Urquhart's is a ruined castle from the 16th century that is located right on the Loch. It was so great and I got some great pictures! I hope you like them, but I guess that doesn't ... read more
