It's an island, Koh Rung, of the coast of Sihanoukville. They have plans to bulid a resort out there so no promises it will still be empty. The cheapest way out there is through the dive shop. $10 or something. The accommodation and food out there is pretty nice, althoguh expensive. They even have wifi. Enjoy!
Sorry I haven't chekced my blog in awhile, it sounds like I'm too late, but I was in Montanita, Ecuador, which is a surf town (all the appartments are on the beach, but ours (Brisa de las Mar or something similar) was away from all the horribly loud disco music. I heard about the volunteering through the Spanish School (which was terrible and I wouldn't recommend that part, or the accommodation they provide). I did lessons for a week and then just did the volunteering after that. Plus if you have Spanish lessons for 4 hours and volunteer for 4 you have no time to surf! Most importantly the experience would only be valuable if you spoke Spanish. Also it is not hands on. Most International work you do as a resident/student isn't so make sure you ask before you plan and elective! Here is the link to the school: http://www.montanitaspanishschool.com/medical-spanish
I also think you should read this article before you go, as it is better to know before hand to avoid disappointment and/or regret:

They have a recent outbreak section too - it seems like things happen there with food preparation and such.
We went with Magic Tours and our guides were brothers (Jose and Gabriel I think). They did an outstanding job, although I think most of the companies are similar. Enjoy the 'factory'!
amazing! Carrie,
Truly an amazing trip you're having! I can't even imagine how you guys figured out where to go and how to set this all up. I definitely would LOVE to chat about your trip when we no doubt meet up in the near future. Try not to think about the C word and enjoy your trip!

Manuel Antonia Hey I think your lucky you saw all those animals at the park! Me and Eric stayed in Quepos for three weeks last December and we didn't get to see half the things you saw.....I don't know why they were hiding from me! Except for the jellyfish - I was the one and only person on the whole beach who got stung all up my foot and leg! Why couldn't the cute animals come out and play? Sounds like you having a great time! Stay safe and have fun!
