My name is Mel and I'm born in 1985. As my mum said I started travelling with the age of 2 but of course I can't remember.

I've been all over the place, already managed to be at least once in every continent but now found through other travellers this site and decided to write in english rather than german.

Whoever wants to see my German journals just has to visit www.broken-mirror.de

So now I'm back home. After being stuck for 1 week in Finland I finally took the ferry, got myself a nice cabin and took a taxi to Luebeck afterwards, from there by train to Dortmund and there my mum came by car. All in all it was a great season and I'm looking forward to go back there next saison. So long I'll be in Iceland from the 18th of may on till mid september. If you'd like to read about my experiences there have a look at url=http://www.umdiewelt.de/Europa/Nordeuropa-oder-Skandinavien/Island/Reisebericht-5420/Kapitel-0.html umdiewelt.de It's going to be in German but for all the english ones: If you give me your emailaddress I'll send you updates as well in english :-)... read more

Hello it's me again. I'll write in English again but first some information in German AND English: German: 1. Since the last entry not so much happened. I drove tours had a lot of fun, a lot of funny guest, a lot of guests who were not cabable of driving a sledg and so on and so on. Now the end of the saison is in front of us. It’s getting warmer every day and therefor it’s harder for the dogs to pull as it is far to hot for them. It’s also getting warm for us workers and while the guests still wear the same they were wearing when it was 40 below, I now sometimes drive even without a jacket or the big gloves. The next two weeks are not so many tours so my days will be again just working as a doghandler in the camp before I’ll have some more daytours ... read more

Hey it's me again, long time no hear but I thought that I'm going to write something again. As I'm not really sure that anybody in english is reading this one at all I'll just write in German. At least there is nobody in the emaillist reading this regulary speaking english. If there is somebody who is reading it that I'm not aware of, please tell me and I'll translate this entry into English as well.

The start of the saison

First there's n update on the website of where I am: www.akaskero.com (ein Update auf der Homepage von hier, sieht schoen aus) Unbelievable but there's going to be an update from far far away. I didn't have internet for a while and my time to actually do something like updating my blog is rather short. Anyway of course we do have a lot of snow by now and we're on sleds since a few weeks. Before the saison started we've already been on sleds and it's again like heaven to stand of one them having the dogs in front of you! It's better than heaven on earth to be honest. But it's also so different to the tour I did in Norway. There the ways were sooo easy, no bumps nothing and I was falling of ... read more

Here I am again. I thought I change my weblog a little bit as it seems that nobody but my Mum and Steffy are actually reading it (oh and HeXe, she said she's reading it a little bit) ... even if there are 6 subscribers. So I'm going to write in English AND in German as long as I do short entries. Long entries are going to be only in English. It snowed again the last 2 days but not as much as last week :-( It'd be sooo good to get a hell of a lot of snow to finally start training with the sledges instead of the Quads :-( :-) But anyway. We started doing the 16km round ... it's totally different to the 8km we started with. It's longer (no way aye?!), it's ... read more

As time goes bye so much happened that I'm not able to even write everything at once :-) The official autuum training started and we train the dogs, of course not with sledges but with Quads. There are 14-20 dogs in front of a Quad and on top of the Quad we have a weight and we are two of us sitting on top of it. I'm working with Petra at the moment. She's working here since 3 years and she's from Germany. We work in teams of 3 at the moment so Celia from Switzerland is working with us as well. It's a lot of work but fun work as well. It's great to see how the dogs work for us and how they want to run. After being here a few weeks I can ... read more

So here I go again from Finish Lappland. :-) So much happened that I’m only going to write briefly about everything, especially because I have only 9 fingers to type, but later more. First of all my new mobile number is +358 40 3650042 and my address is Melanie Kasueske Kurkkiomaa 99300 Muonio Finland I’m always happy to get some postcards/letters while up here. I only have internet every now and then. I’m busy most of the time and we’re sharing a internet stick between the whole house :-) The camp is great. They are about 500 dogs and we are 14 people working here at the moment… more in a few weeks when another new girl is going to arrive and all the guides are coming. Most of my workmates are from Switzerland, but we ... read more

I'm sitting at Helsinki Airport now waiting for my connecting flight to KTT :-) I was sooo excited last night that I didn't sleep - not for one minute. I was feeling extremely sick this morning and thought I have to vomit ... I'm just hoping that it'll be as good as I think it'll be :-) My Mum drove me to Frankfurt, I checked in and we drank a coffee before we had to say goodbye. I really have the best mum in the world as she's not only a mum but a friend as well :-) I never ever beeped in my whole entire life going through customs but today I beeped and I had to open my bag and I had to come with them to another room as they wanted to check ... read more

You're going to Finland as a WHAT?!

You go to Finland as a WHAT?! The idea In January 2007 I went to Norway to a Sleddogcenter for one week of Sleddogriding. It was like heaven to me and I felt as happy as never before. They had one girl working as a doghandler there and I thought "That must be a great job - Outdoor, Dogs and a lot of 'Sport'" As most of you know I went on a trip for 21 month to New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand and during this trip I was thinking what the future brings. For me it had to be something adventurous again so I decided to just try my luck and work for a sleddogcenter in one scandinavian country as I wanted to stay in Europe for a year or two before going ... read more
