Sat - Oct 31st A little sleep in for us today as we got on the road at 8am towards Orange river. A little bummed that today is Halloween and it is the first Halloween I have ever missed. Orange River campsite was really nice. It had a very cool bar with a great view of the river. I spent most of the day in the river floating on a windsurf board. It was nice to just float and relax in the sun. Sun - Nov 1st Geckos campsite in Citrusdal. Last night of camping.... last night of cooking. Mon - Nov 2nd It was an early morning with a late departure. Since last night was the last night of camping this morning was the day to get all our tents cleaned and in order and ... read more

Tue - Oct 20th Long day of over 430+ miles of driving to the Ngandu River Lodge in Rundu. Drove about 250 miles to get to the Botswana and Namibia border. Nothing too exciting as we drive for another 185+ to get to Rundu and the Ngandu River Lodge. After dinner that night Ed, Sian, Claire and I played a little poker. Ed won. Surprising, since we are at this campsite for two nights, everyone besides the four of us went to sleep early. Wed - Oct 21st Second day the Ngandu River Lodge. Went into town and jumped online for a bit and did a little walking around. I bought a new pair of swim shorts since my other pair disappeared. Contrary to last night, were we had no need to wake up early the ... read more

Thur - Oct 15th We left The Grotto around 8am and today we have 14 people joining our safari truck and we are losing 6. It is quite sad because 3 of those 6 have been with us from the very start. Luckily, though, the new people that are joining us we already know. 9 of them are from the other “Wiley” Absolute Africa safari truck and they have been at the majority of the same camps as we have been for almost 3-4 weeks. They have been on the same route as us up until this point but now the Wiley truck is heading to Jo’Burg and we are heading to Cape Town. As for the 9 getting on our truck I get along with most of them for the most part. Only a couple ... read more

Sat - Oct 10th Final morning on the houseboat as we make our way back to the shore of Kariba. Back over the dam, back over the Zambia/Zimbabwe border and a 150 mile drive to Mazabuka and Linger Longa campsite. We were going to stay at the Kushinga campsite again and then do a 375 mile drive to Livingstone on Sunday but instead we decided to drive 150 mile to Mazabuka so we would only have 211 miles to go on Sunday. It was an impromptu campsite arrangement as we did not have accommodations booked and had to find a campsite. It was adequate except being next to a train track. I still slept good through the night none the less and even had a dream I was a bassist in Metallica. Sun - Oct 11th ... read more

Wed - Oct 7th Today it was off to the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. We had to get out of the truck and walk across the Lake Kariba dam. The Zimbabwe immigration took ages. It was slow that we were there over an hour and it was not a cool day. We got to Kushinga and the lake Karimba campsite. This campsite had a nice pool and cheap alcohol but that was about it. There were a gazillion flies during the day and the mossies at night. I will be glad to be out of this campsite tomorrow and out on the houseboat. Thur - Oct 8th We left the Kushinga camp site around 9am and made our way to the lake to start our two days on the houseboat on Lake Kariba. We made ... read more

Fri - Oct 2nd Making our way into Zamiba we got to Chipata and Mamarulas Campsite. Just a stopover before we make our way to Croc Valley for a couple days. The campsite had a really small bar and not much to do there. We sat around for a while and watched some Nat Geo shows before dinner. A dinner I skipped because of the copious amounts of onions and other non-eatable veggies. I ended up teaching the Wiley truck how to play asshole. Sat - Oct 3rd Left Mamarulas Campsite around 7:30 and got on the road to Luanhwa and the Croc Valley campsite. It was not that far of a journey but it took a lo... read more

Sun - Sep 27th On the road at 7am for another long drive from Iringa, Tanzania to the Malawi boarder. Crossed the border into Malawi and finished our 12 hour drive to our overnight campsite at Lake Malawi. Tomorrow we make our way to Kande Beach and our 3 nights at or temp home at Lake Malawi. Mon - Sep 28th Left our campsite at a reasonable hour today. I think it was about 9am to head to url=http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Kande+Beach&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=49.089956,76.289063&ie=UTF8&hq=Kande+Beach&hnear=&radius=15000&ll=-11.931852,34.123535&spn=30.228961,38.144531&z=5Kande Beach on Lake Malawi. I was quite happy that we did not make 10 thousand toilet stops along the way like we normally do during our drives. We did stop for a lame lunch stop. There was no grocery... read more

Tue - Sep 15th No breakfast or lunch today as I am still full from Carnivore. Long drive and border crossing into Tanzania today. It was lame. Everyone else had to pay $50 for the visa to get into Tanzania but I had to pay $100 for being from the US. Lame. Then it was a long drive into Tanzania to make our way to Meserani Snake Park in Arusha. Snake park had a pub that was a lot like Lake Mahinapua's Poo Pub in NZ. Lots of weird and bizarre stuff all over the walls and lots of shirts all of the ceiling and walls. We had a dinner prepared for us that night as we needed our fill for our trip to the Serengeti tomorrow. Wed - Sep 16th Got picked up in our ... read more

Mon - Sep 7th We left the Nile River Explorers campground in Jinja on route to our way back into Kenya an our next stop in Eldoret at the Naiberi River Campsite. When we crossed over the boarder back into Kenya we were suppose to pay another $25 to get back in for the visa. The reason being that we “technically” left East Africa when we went into Rwanda. If we never left East Africa we would not have to pay. Well.... all of us just didn’t tell them we went to Rwanda and hoped they didn’t see the Rwanda stamp in our passports. Lucky for us we were able to get through and save $25. The Naiberi Campsite was awesome. Great pool, although we got there too late to use it. But more so they ... read more

Thursday - Aug 27th Got on the bus again at 8am and headed to the Ugandan border. We passed the time by starting a backseat poker game. We had to pay $50 for the visa to get into Uganda. We finally made it to Jinja where we would be camping for 3 days (Nile River Explorers Campgrounds). Nice to have a few days where we can relax and not have to worry about getting up the next day, packing and then heading off right away. Jinja is on Lake Victoria in Uganda and is Africa’s largest lake, the largest tropical lake in the world and is the source of the Nile. It is a big place for kayakers and rafting. Tomorrow will be the big rafting day. There are a lot of other travelers here at ... read more
