Today was our last day of the tour. We had our best breakfast so far. Hotels and food improved as the days passed. Our first stop of the day was the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This is one of the two buildings dedicated to print paper currency in the US; THE other is located in Dallas. In a typical year the bureau prints 33 million notes a day with a face value of $529 millions. Ninety five percent of the paper currency printer goes to replace previous notes. Approximately 54.8 % of the notes printed are one dollar bills, the current size of the paper and the faces in each of the bills were established in 1929. There are 9 different designs ($1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $1000, $5000 and $100,000), however since ... read more

Today was a chilly and cloudy day. The snow was still covering the grass and the kids love it. The tour took us to Independence Square. This is the place where the US was born, In this building the delegates of the thirteen colonies met in the Assembly Hall to sign the Declaration of Independence and later the Constitution of the United States. As a result, the Second Continental Congress named Banjamin Frankyn ambassador and sent him to France in order to get support for the upcoming war. In the adjacent building, Old City Hall, the US Supreme court met from 1791 to 1800. The first US Congress also met in the adjacent Congress Hall from 1790 to 1800. In front of the Independence Square is the Decalration House. In this house Thomas Jefferson drafted the ... read more

Today we woke up under a snow shower. When the kids saw the snow fall through the window, they inmediately got ready for the action. After a light breakfast, we all went outside to play with the snow. The kids were throwing snow balls at each other and having lots of fun. The fun lasted for an hour before we headed back. We did several stops to take pictures of the Niagara Falls. The falls divide the Canada province of Ontario from New york state in the US. They are part of the river Niagara which connects to the Great Lakes. The falls are divided in three sections: the American Falls and the smaller Bridal Veil Falls both in the US section and the Horseshoe fall in the Canadian Section. The Falls are an important source ... read more

Today the group staying at the Novotel, travelled to the airport to receive the bigger group commig from Puerto Rico. At aproximately 11:30 am the group led by Valentin arrive at the baggage claim area. After hugs, kissees and best wishes, we were divided into two groups. The group one travels in the white bus, and the group two travels in the red bus. I must confess that theee are not the colors the Mr. Valentin will like to have. Perhaps this is a premonition of whats going to happen in Novemeber. We ate at La Banderita Restaurant. We were greated with salad, rice, "arroz con gandules", roasted chicken, "ropa vieja", "yuca" and fried plantains. It was like being in an oasis after all these dyas eating American food. Today we decided to move by cab. I was surprised to see that the taxis now have LCD monitors with GPS and up to the hour news and weather forecast. Is like having your own PC connected to the Internet but in the back of the car. The drive was short. The Metropolitan Museum building is impresive. Located in one side of the Central Park, it is composed of several buildings with different exhibits. We were able to visit the GreeK and Romans exhibits, the Medieval art and the arms and armor exhibits. This is only 30% of the exhibits available. All the exhibits we saw were magnificient. Today I will let the pictures talk by themselves.... read more

Today we slept until 9:00 am. We were exausted from yesterday. Unlike, the day before, we explore the city on our own. After a breakfast in Mac Donalds we headed to the Museum of Natural History. In front of the Museum, there is a mini park where there were small chunks of snow remaining on the ground. The boys quickly discovered it and went bananas. It was their first encounter with snow in 8 years. The Museum is a big place. The structure covers four city blocks and its located in Central Park. The Museum holds a record breaking number of 30,000 fossils, the largest in the world, of which the only a sixth's of them are on display. Our visit started with a show in the Planetarium called Cosmic Collisions. The show demonstrated some of the ... read more

Today we woke up at 5:30 am to start the Bella Vista Adventist Academy 2008 educational journey that will take us to New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC. A group of about 80 students, parents and faculty will be participating this year. The first group of 16 explorers departed from San Juan PR at 8:00 am arriving in New York three and a half hour later. Although we were ready for the cold weather, the 28 degree temperature quickly gave us a sense of what was ahead of us. We arrived at the Novotel Hotel and left our bags there until check in time. Most of us were hungry by that time and we decided to go for a pizza. We could not find the pizza restaurant and decided to eat in the Olive Garden. After ... read more
