I flew into Amman in the evening the following day and was pleasantly surprised to find, after a shocking airport, a motorway in excellent condition. I just stared out the window at what was my first time in a Middle Eastern country but it is always hard to get a full idea when you arrive somewhere at night. I arrived at the hotel and after a quick snack, organising my plan for the following day at the reception then hitting the sack. I awoke and went down to breakfast and met 6 people who were doing the trip with me. All of them were over 55 so I was interested meet the rest to get a better idea of how this trip was going to play out. Either way it was going to be different from ... read more

After a long flight at the wrong time of day I arrived early in the morning into Heathrow and was very relieved that Hannah had convinced Jan to get me a taxi from the airport to Brentford. I had developed a bit of a cold in Miami while I was there for a couple of days so was feeling extra drained. I threw my things into my room at Brentford and found some Vegemite in the cupboard so had a long awaited breakfast. I wanted to sort out my parcel from New Zealand but was too tired and ended up falling asleep for a couple of hours. I sorted out the parcel the next day but with my bank cards not working it was not until Saturday, my birthday, when things started to heat up. I ... read more

With the excitement of Jacksonville behind me I flew down to Miami then back up to New York City. I arrived in JFK and with a little help from Han in NZ I found the directions to my hostel. After several trains I found myself in the heart or Manhattan. A place I would come to love in less than a week. I shuffled all my things off onto my bed and withing minutes I was out the door with a British guy and we were off down the road to watch Monday Night Football between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. And what do I find at the bar? Hoegaarden! I decided against pinching anything as I don't think there is much left that I don't have. I just watched the game until it was ... read more

November 5th 2008

This is not usually a popular tourist destination but for me it was a city I couldn't wait to get to! I arrived by train late on the Friday night and arrived to find that I had left my credit card at my previous hostel. I rang them up and found it and organised for a Kiwi I'd met to bring it with him to New York (this never happened). So with that sorted I slept well and long which was much needed after a frantic last 10 days. The following day was very low key. All I wanted was to get a football jersey and hat and chill out and watch ESPN for pre-Sunday football talk. And that was pretty much all I did. The following day was the big one. I awoke like a ... read more

I arrived in Orlando and at the hostel later than I was expecting so did not think I would go to a theme park today. Instead, do some shopping and a couple of the smaller things. As it turned out I met this German guy in my dorm who was diving to Universal Studios and I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a free ride so I went along. We walked through the City Walk area passed the big Universal globe to the gate and bought the 2 day 2 park ticket. We went into Universal Studios and were planning on going to Islands of Adventure the following day. Upon entry and it was exactly as I had pictured it, picture perfect. We went on all the major rides from Twister to The Mummy, Jaws to ... read more

We flew to Miami on Stacey's birthday and so gave her a dress from us all and went our to a nice dinner on Ocean on South Beach. It was an enjoyable evening and a nice place to celebrate it. That was pretty much all for the arrival day after the hassels of checking in. The following day was pretty chilled out also. I got my communication sorted for my time in the US, and then wandered around and took a look at the shops as South Beach is the best location in Miami for shopping. Not overly expensive either which I was surprised about. We went and lay down on the beach for a lot of the afternoon before heading back to the hostel to send Min off to the airport to fly to London. ... read more

September 12th 2008

Having left Panama behind with the delay of our plane, our entrance into Jamaica would not be too simple either. Stace's friend Rachel joined us in Jamaica for the two weeks we were there before heading to Canada to work with the other two. She had to wait longer because of our delay and for stupid reasons she was still in immigration when we arrived off the plane. They would not let her through because she did not know the address that we were staying at. They then stopped Paul, Stace and I as well for a whole bunch of relevant reasons. Min got through because she had a British work visa in her passport and even though the rest of us all had flights out of the country they wanted to interrogate us. Apparently my ... read more

September 2nd 2008

We arrived in Panama in what is for us an unusual fashion, it was still daytime! Not only that but we arrived in the morning. It was raining which for me was a bit of a relief. Not because I was sick of sun or anything (beacuse that it highly unlikely ever to happen) but beacuse it made me feel less guilty for missing an entire day in Panama due to my spending the rest of the afternoon at an internet cafe preparing and then taking part in an NFL Fastasy Draft. Funnily enough, I had been looking forward to this day for quite some time and the draft in fact had been planned around when I had a free day. We even left some extra time in case my flight was dalayed. We had thought ... read more

Our bus trip from San Jose got this next section of our trip of to an exciting start. After traveling for a few hours we had to get off our bus and walk near to a kilometre to a connecting bus because a they were fixing a bridge on their main highway out to the northwestern peninsula. So all hot and sweaty we got back on the bus again and continued our journey. Because of this unexpected delay we missed our connecting bus from Nicoya to Samara so we had to wait and hour for the next one which was incredibly exciting considering we were incredibly hot and all we wanted to do was get in the ocean! Either way we waited patiently for the next one and once we finally got on we were crammed ... read more

August 11th 2008

As the trend seems to be, we arrived into San Jose in the dark. Considering we left Buenos Aires early that morning you would not think that this would be the case. But after an incredibly boring 5 hour wait in the worst airport in the world, Lima, we finally made it. Paul had issues with his surfboard getting dents and a big hold made in it but that were not liable for any damage and so after a lot of arguing we left for the hostel. We arrived their late and with little else to do we went to bed to finish our 21 hour day. In the morning we rose late and headed out to check out downtown San Jose and get some food. We ended up doing it in reverse as almost right ... read more
