youch - From: Emptying the Yosemite Wilderness
A little close for comfort! I met a mom bear and 2 cubs once on a trail at Mt. Rainier. I was scared at first---all those ferocious mom bear stories---but it became quickly apparent that she was far more interested in browsing than in us. Her 2 kids were curious as all get-out. Stood up on their hind legs and stared at us. But mom never cast a glance in our direction. I guess she knew the park boundaries!

Watering the Marks of Change - From: Pressing an Isle of Apples
Hey Kevin, No worries. I mean it, thank you. I need that progressive feedback to swallow in whatever form it arrives. I think you e right... consistency, consistency... with a little more translucent marking. And like you said... theyre low rez, 72dpi. Can do much with that. Thanks again! In peace, cam

I owe you an apology - From: Pressing an Isle of Apples
I was re-reading my prior comment to you, and I owe you an apology, the title was pretty rude and annoying. I can believe you responded as civil as you did (says a lot of good about you). Anyways, what I meant to say (minus the poor sarcasm) is that, for me, its very difficult to enjoy your pictures as the watermarks are really distracting. I see from others comments here and your previous blog entries that it doesn seem to bother most of the folks, so I may be in the small minority. For what its worth, Ive always thought that a low-contrast watermark in a *consistent* location (so its still noticeable on first view, but easier to mentally tune out once you get used to it), combined with a relatively low resolution image (obviously not a problem on this website) is a reasonable compromise.

Thanks Kevin, I've never received feedback about watermarks, and I realize now its a form of protection and marketing for me. I'll experiment with sizing and look forward to hearing more thoughts from you and others. Thanks! In Peace, cam

Watermark much? - From: Pressing an Isle of Apples
I'm sure your pics are good, but don't you think you're overdoing the watermark a bit? Not that I expect you to change your mind, but you might want to see a photography editor's perspective: http://www.wired.com/rawfile/2009/08/black-hole/ It's your right to protect your art, but you may end up protecting it to oblivion...

Well Done - From: Pressing an Isle of Apples
Cam, NIcey done. I enjoyed ready your very vivid entry. Who is Simone. I used to ahve a girlfriend by that name. Every time I see it or hear it, I do a double take. I read the bottom regarding your upcoming trip. Great Stuff. If I am stepping on your toes, I apologize. One little suggestion in the last paragraph? Perhaps you can consider replacing "the next journey in East Africa" with "our upcoming Journey to East Africa". "Along with Lily Brewis, our mission begins in January 2010. We will work with and volunteer all of our time to work with several orphanages, NGOs, and grassroots communities."....Just a thought. You have a much better flair for this than I do. Cheers

Gracias, Cameron, for carrying us in your dreaming tales, photos, and footsteps to La Push -- a place of immense beauty that I experienced a long, long time ago! Duncan Ball RIP - From: Peace Walk (Part VI): Dark Days at Sellafield
It was a great shock to read of the demise of Duncan "Bounce" Ball. He was a “reet canny” lad and will be sadly missed. I am so happy to find your blog and to see the photos of my dear old friend Tjokorda Rai. I have not seen Tjok since 2001 which was my last visit to Bali. He is definately in a class by himself! Linda, or as Tjok calls me...Linda from Florida. He knows lots of Lindas.

Jack
Jack reporting in from Bali - From: Rescuing Personal Mysticism Across a Balinese Island
Jack does not at all think he can live on "nothing". Lol. That statement, after all, contradicts itself from the get go. But he is most certainly open minded to the idea that there are other ways of producing matter and manipulating it into forms that we need to survive than by kinetic motion alone. (such as physical labor with one's own two hands.) He thinks this might be the case because of the anecdotal stories of mystics and Yogis who could produce matter by drawing on nothing but pranic energy, and then concentrating such into sub atomic particles. I.E. producing matter from the quantum field, by using nothing but mere thought. This metaphysical idea, which used to be considered nothing but "superstition" by level headed reductionists is finding fresh soil to germinate in - not in a new round of new age mystics, but in the minds of tenured, published theoretical physicists such as Fred Wolf, Irwin Laslow, and others. Laslow, for example, was nominated four times now for the Nobel Prize. He would agree with everything I said, and in fact is one of my inspirations. These people are the very scientists you would quote, when you say "science does not believe in that stuff" . Science does believe in such, increasingly, and so do I. Jack is out of his mind !!! - From: Rescuing Personal Mysticism Across a Balinese Island
If Jack thinks he can live on "Nothing" in this world by simply relying on the "Universe" to provide him sustenance and just bum around on the beach, then he is delusional...A lot of people living under the poverty line are struggling to "survive" and will do anything to earn a living (to a point where they even have to sell their soul out of desperation).....Jack seems to be smoking too much dope I reckon.

- From: Your Perfect Yoga Retreat
I love that you compare that you suggest that the practice of yoga itself spill seamlessly into a mindful selection of the "perfect" yoga retreat. That's what its all about right, taking yoga off the mat and bringing it into day to day light. I really appreciate this insight and your emphasis on honoring your own practice/path one breath at a time. Retreats are an excellent way to take time out for yourself: to rest, rejuvenate and delve deeper into or begin a yoga/spiritual practice. In my experience they are also an amazing opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, build community, experience culture and to vacation in a healthy and positive manner that leaves you feeling replenished and inspired on a number of levels.

Brain Yoga - From: Your Perfect Yoga Retreat
Iv been wanting to do yoga for months now, asking myself the same questions, what form of yoga would be best for me? Where in this world would be the best place to get such a great teaching?...and from whom? Bali now seems like a great idea, but I can not afford the trip listed. Iv emailed Laura to see what other options are available. I know my best friend from school days gave up his good job to become a yoga instructor his dream is now very alive, unfortunately for me he is all the way over in Canada www.openspaceyoga.com. He has never been happier. Fingers crossed something great comes my way. Thanks for the jog of inspiration.

Falling in Love - From: A Lover's Manifesto
The best thing in life that could happen to a person is fall in love. To fall in love is to gaze into the stars and dream the most wonderful dream. Your mind, body and soul drift into a universe where time stops and nothing else matters. Cosmic energy flows through your body energizing every fiber of your entire being. The feeling of excitement and elation makes your heart beats fast, your knees tremble and body moan in ecstasy. Your brain produces all sorts of chemicals flooding your senses, elevating your mind and soul in a state of trance. You feel exhilarated, sensual and at the same at peace.........

Love Overcomes ALL Obstacles! - From: A Lover's Manifesto
As I read Lover's Manifesto a few lines from The Moulin Rouge come to mind. "A life without love, that's terrible!.... The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and to be loved in return." I'm a lover, and always have been, but my mind drifts back to a time when I set aside my romantic heart and lived vicariously through Hollywood's idealism. I've always been a sucker for Romeo and Juliet and Princess Bride type love affairs but as I matured in life and love something shifted and I suddenly found myself knee deep in the cynicism of Sex and The City. A while back I had a conversation with my housemate about falling in love. He, ten years my senior, mused about why it gets harder and harder to fall in love as we age. I remembered back to my first love and questioned momentarily if I could ever fall give my heart and soul with the same gusto and fearlessness as I did then. This was my turning point. I had a choice. I could live in fear of being disappointed and hurt by love and slowly let my heart close or I could live in love and open my heart to the world. "I life without love, that's terrible!" We all have a choice: to live from fear or to live from love. In the way we communicate, in the way we drive, in the way we prepare food for one another, in all the seemingly mundane things that fill our lives, we have a choice and our choices have ramifications. As you can see I am back to my idealistic self. Yet its not just me that beckons you to be present and positive, its the universe. With the popularity of the Hollywood movie, The Secret, the laws of attraction have been catapulted into the limelight of the general public. "What ever you think about you bring about" or "attitude of gratitude" are a few mottos to recall ever time you feel your heart waver in fear, doubt or negativity. You are a powerful human being, with an unending source or wisdom, creativity, health, abundance, love and compassion waiting to be discovered beneath the surface. I now fully embrace my dharma to give and receive all forms of love in each and every opportunity I get. And what's great is that the more I love the more I receive. The more I stop to appreciate the little gifts around me, the color of the sky, a child's laughter, the smell just after the rain or the sun's warmth on my face, the more I am filled with gratitude and love. Its the universe's energizer bunny - it just keeps going and going. You'll never run out of love if you see love in everything. That's why my lover and I have decided to make Valentine's Day everyday. Its fantastic to have a day like Valentine's to appreciate and revel in the very intimate and passionate love that the holiday touts, but what if that same quality of energy and support was magnified beyond this inner circle of family, friends and lovers? Start small and see what happens. I think you'll find that love overcomes all obstacles.....

Hey Cameron, Jonah here, thanks for the pure introspection - I love your openness in writing. I'm hangin out in Westport, south island, Aotearoa/New Zealand. I'm working back as a bike mechanic for the next three months before heading off into the early winter across the southern alps by bicycle. I'll stay in Otautahi/Christchurch for a month or so and help out at the Free Bike Workshop and then head up to Te whanganui-a-tara/Wellington for? Choice photo of a melting building mate! Traveler...a state of mind - From: I Am Tourist, I Am No Tourist
Cameron, each time you venture out into the world you are a traveler. Travel is a state of mind dependent on your ability to see each experience as an adventure into the unknown. For example, when you go out to walk the sea of humanity called Pike's Market do you see Seattle or do you see the cornocopia of people, smells, goods, and experiences that come from around the world to gather in the stalls and open air spaces? Think of the stories to be told if each seller, each buyer, and each voyeur were to sit, coffee in hand to share their experiences. I see the world each day as a fresh canvas waiting to reveal its image to me. Peace unto you my co-traveler... Pax Vobiscum Shannon Your Point White Writing Sage

From smeone who has walked with Cameron - From: Peace Walk (Part IX): The End of a Nuclear Era
I walked with Cameron from Ayr in Scotalnd to the border with England. Do not be deceived by the laid back look, under what appears to be a very easy going relaxed guy there is someone very special. I shall not forget his kindness, help, advice and skills Despite our difference in ages( 43 years) difference in culture and upbringing (British and American) we did have things in common: we both have been to Nigeria ( again 35 years difference in time ), we both have the same passion for peace and we both are very impressed by KA and Marcus. So I echo his sentiments keep walking and working for peace. I often say who would have guessed 20 years ago that the Berlin wall would fall, the regime in South Africa would change and the Protestants and Catholics would join in Ireland. If these could happen, why should we not have a Nuclear free world ? Thanks Cameron ---- Duncan

Cameron, I have been wondering how your journey is going, now I have an idea. You sound strong and committed. Keep trusting the Self, Keep faith. My own journey has taken me places I would have never dreamed, and still is. I arrived home on Saturday from the Walk. Now, I am in culture shock of sorts, familiar from past shocks. I do not want to loose the meaning. Peace, Bernie

Hey Cumberland Sausage, Thank you for the poem. I will read it to our group tomorrow morning as we head south for London. We were just in your area, passing through Sheffield. Norman Nicholson - From: Peace Walk (Part VI): Dark Days at Sellafield
Here's a Norman Nicholson poem, published in 'A local habitation' in 1972, entitled 'Windscale': The toadstool towers infest the shore: Stink-horns that propagate and spore Wherever the wind blows. Scafell looks down from the bracken band, And sees hell in a grain of sand, And feels the canker itch between his toes. This is a land where dirt is clean, And poison pasture, quick and green, And storm sky, bright and bare; Where sewers flow with milk, and meat Is carved up for the fire to eat, And children suffocate in God's fresh air. There is a rather incredible newsreel from 1957 detailing the events that inspired Nicholson's poem - "You can't explain radioactivity to a cow." Go to Norman Nicholson on Wikipedia and take the "Five Norman Nicholson poems" link at the bottom. http://www.cleo.net.uk/resources/displayframe.php?src=181/consultants_resources//english/norman3/index.html

Hello sir, fair play, you've put a lot of work into this. Photos lovely, I liked the ones of the cooley mountains especially. I'd like to indicate that there's lots to know about the various histories of protestant people before they arrived here, and the mix of cultures that exists in Northern Ireland today. Can't wait to read about faslane, saw the photos on the faslane365 website and heard a bit from mark. Will you tell every one I say Hi and send hugs? Deep Sigh.... - From: Peace Walk (Part III): Belfast
Namaste Cam. Much of what is shared in this blog is new information. Thanks for the care, love and perspective. In an effort to soften 'ego' (while allowing due space), imagine conversations without the words, I, me, you, us, them, they, ours, mine, yours, etc. Imagine. If everything one perceives is a perception / reflection of oneself / ones spirit, then one realizes one's isolation / aloneness. This, of course is balanced by one's sense/cellular knowledge that all 'things' are connected. Both these models are completely true and simultaneously true. Hugs. From one alien to another.

Interesting and informative as usual. It's nice to read something from the "other" America. Don't worry, the rest of the world doesn't eat marshmallows but, still, there are these other two or three hundred thousands items little (or nothing) environmental friendly produced, packed and commercialized in our everyday life. I try to consume as little as I can but I often feel like fighting a hopeless fight. Marco

Volunteering? Search the web is my advice. There are so many organizations out there, especially working within Africa. Search, research and them follow your heart and breathe as you work with the world. The best advice I can give, from personal experience, is forever follow your heart and travel with your love and compassion in which you have to offer to all people and places we exist. Thank you! I am crushed that the "giant" of Africa had been reduced to such a pitiful joke. I will forever be changed by what I saw in two weeks. At the detrioriation around me...the hope and zeal for life in the eyes of the people. I would like to go back to Africa to help but am not sure in what capacity. Do you have any advice for me? How can I fund a trip back, how can I volunteer to help?

Yes, that's it. - From: From Travel to Absolute Travel: The Inner Experience
You summed up why I have tried to give up everything in order to travel. It is hard to tell people why you want to travel for months or years at a time, or forever. Why its not enough for me just go somewhere for a few months, have a good time and come home. My first solo 9 month travel experience in Europe was in the moment all the time and every experience, good and bad, was equally amazing and the whole thing changed me. I crashed in squats, swam naked in the ocean with travelling circus performers in Italy, had midnight climbs through haunted graveyards in Edinburgh, hitchiked throughout the tuscan country side, weaseled my way into parties in Ibiza and so on. There were no rules and life consisted only of possibility, the now, and of my own core as a human being which flowed effortlessly the current of life. Transition to socialization and daily routine when I came home was tough to say the least, and for the 5 years I did it to pay off my collective debts land to make enough money to leave again, I longed for release back into that realm of the spontaneous that made up my heart and deepest spiritual self after travelling. Finally I paid off my debts and by selling everything I owned I was able to go to Japan where I spent six months doing some pretty cool stuff (see ivadoll travelblog) and then jaunted off to Thailand and Laos for some relaxing during the cold Japanese winter). Unfortunately I got sick on that trip in such a way that may make independent travel abroad very difficult in the future. I had to abruptly return home when I had planned not to return for atleast 3 years. The shock has been terrible. Although seeing old friends is wonderful, I now have to worry about car insurance, what I am going to eventually study, future careers, where am I going to live in a few years, which city will I pick to settle down in, and all that bladdy blah. I am obsessed with the future because my society's now is all about planning for the future. I swear it is giving me an ulcer. I want to check out of this paradigm, of stuff, and invisible ropes as soon as I can, and perhaps never come back to it. Maybe if the universe smiles my way it will happen soon and I'll see you on the road somewhere, ivadoll.

Thank you, son, for bringing back memories of our storied time spent in Greece. Albeit, we were a family, but how else would Craig have be there to carry a injured traveler down the side of the mountain from Delphi and then to first aid. (where was the Oracle?) We live again through your mind and your pictures. Stay well and our prayers are with you and your singular friends.

brilliant ! - From: Culture Hopping
your pictures and your text are so lively ! It is a real pleasure to see , to meet someone who knows how to share his experience through the world and mostly through the people's mind . I agree that i might be difficult to come back home ( what is home ? ) yes , you are looked at as if nothing had happened ... nothing had changed , but you know that the travel made you , and you can now travel through the people's mind as if it was a country ! Thank you for keeping us informed in such a personal way about the health and the illness of our planet . So useful . and you keep smiling ... that's wonderful I also love the traveller's part ... money , organization ... Really , Thank you , Cam . you are doing a very interesting job . Poetry , humour , consciousness , broadmindedness .and heart... I love it and i hope to receive more . I wish i had seen a photo of Toulouse ! ( joking ! )

More grist for Cameron's mill. Ask the questions, then meditate. To do the work of saving others we must save ourselves. A peaceful island can exist in a restless sea.

Your questing gives us blessings - From: To Bring Back Home
Thank you for challenging our awareness with your inquiry into the nature of selflessness. Perhaps when we give freely without fear of want we are sharing not only the material with which we dispense but the essence through which we give. seeking gratitude or acknowledgement for the gifts we share, distracts us from the initial act of giving- when called upon by our fellow being they give to us the opportunity to become aware of our own abundance and therefore the opportunity to let go without fear of want. (On a side note, your log challenged me to put to words my own feelings and understanding of selflessness. I wrote lucidly one time through and then accidently erased it. I was frusturated, although taking the time to write again lets it resonate more deeply with my conciousness.) Thank you Cameron. love, Bryn

Breathfull Heart - From: Being Human & Peace
Ahhh Cam. Salty heart, salty life, salty tears....all on many sides of your experience/life. Sweet vintage smile, sugar dimples, embracing LOVE. No Words. Creative Love describes how Constantine's Dove moves now....Showing us, as an inspired Teacher, by example, how to sway and dance with our hands 'up', walk barefoot over percieved dangers, and weep openly. Ohhh Dear Dear Cameron. Thanks sooooo much for being part of my Family. Yours Forever; tears flowing.... I've so missed that. Thanks. You are an Alchemist and a wonderful reflection. sharing your spiritual challenge of beggars - From: To Bring Back Home
Thank you for this soulful sharing, Cameron... I too experience that spiritual challenge each time I pass a panhandler... How to stay open and generous and yet a steward of one's resources. As I refelct on what you've written and stirred, my thought comes to: Perhaps the opening is not to expect any resolution but to greet the aliveness, tension and call of the struggele of each of those moments. A wake up call the questions, What is the state of my heart, is my generosity flowing, am I being caught by fear and scarcity. Am I at peace and radiating peace in this moment -- whether that includes a coin or not. I wish I had some help for your Tibetan friends... Sending you much love and WARM hugs. Brr.

BEGGING - From: To Bring Back Home
FIRST, THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR STORY. YOU ASK AND PONDER LIFE'S IMPORTANT QUESTIONS: WHY DO I HAVE MORE THEN OTHERS? HOW CAN I SHARE WITHOUT RESENTMENT? MUST MY GIFTS BE REPAID WITH A PERFORMANCE OR WITH GRATITUDE? YOU BEGIN TO RECOGNIZE THAT YOU ARE LUCKY BEYOND ALL MEASURE. WITH YOUR GOOD FORTUNE YOU ALSO HAVE A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILTY. IMAGINE USING YOUR TRAVEL MONEY TO BUILD A SCHOOL IN NIGERIA, A COMMUNITY KITCHEN IN INDIA, FEEDING A FAMILY FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH YOUR DISPOSABLE INCOME. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE IN AMERICA WHO DO NOT HAVE HIGH PAYING JOBS WHO MAKE A COMMITMENT TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOMEONE WHO IS LESS FORTUNATE. THEY DO NOT NEED THE PERFORMANCE OR THE GRATEFUL EYES. THEY SIMPLY KNOW DEEPLY THAT WITHOUT RECOGNITION THEY ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE. YOUR FRIENDS WANT A BETTER LIFE IN THE STATES. MY FAMILY CAME TO AMERICA FOR A BETTER LIFE AND FOUND IT. MAYBE WE SHOULD BEGIN TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE CAN HAVE A BETTER LIFE IN THE PLACES THEY CURRENTLY LIVE. I LIKE THE OMETEPE MODEL. WISHING YOU SAFE JOURNEYS AND A GROWING COMPASSIONATE HEART. JUDY
