Hey whats up fellow Travelers? My name is Phil, from Los Angeles, CA. I was inspired by everyones blogs and photos so i decided to create my own blog. I just got back from a 10 day trip in Colombia. I hope to inspire other travelers about my adventures in Colombia and to show you that its a safe country! Colombia is a hidden treasure, a very beautiful country, people are very nice. The following day we took a bus to a small town outside of Medellin called Guatape. It was about 1.5 hour ride long. Guatape is a lake community with beautiful homes, small farms and big rock call El Penol, which is a 200 feet and it stands out. Guatape was once a home for Pablo Escobar and his whole Medellin Cartel. After Pablo Escobars death, the FARC spread their operations into this area. Later on the Colombian government sent troops to drive the FARC and the rest guerrilla forces back to the dense forest. There are soldiers around to keep the area safe for the people and tourists. We landed at El Dorado International airport in Bogota at 8:30pm We are finally here! After months of waiting I am in Colombia! Me and my friends, Sam, AJ and Yune were all excited! Our friends in Bogota, Daniel and Alejandra picked us up. We checked in at the Casablanca Hotel Casablanca Hotel which is near the Zona Rosa area. its a very nice hotel, in a very nice area. The staff was very friendly. Its about $35 USD per night. I highly recommend this place. Its walking distance from restaurants, banks, and shops.
