CLONCURRY TO YEPPOON Thurs 5th Aug, We had a look around town, (not much to see ) and had a relaxing day at the caravan park. They had a bush poet last night and a country singer tonight. Very pleasant stay. Fri 6th Aug, A long 342 kms to Winton today and on the way we saw quite a few of the 400 Harley riders that had been at a group gathering at Mt Isa this week. Not a blade of grass at the caravan park but neat and clean. We were again entertained by bush poets and a travelling family band. They were all great. Sat 7th Aug, Up early and off in a small bus out to the Dinosaur Stampede display 120kms out in the bush. They have spent a bucketload setting it all ... read more

DARWIN TO CLONCURRY Thurs 29th July, We left Darwin around 10-00am and headed for Katherine. We did some grocery shopping and checked into the Shady lane Caravan park. Very nice, lots of shade and a nice pool which we spent a couple of hours in. Still plenty of jet fighters around, this time from Tindal Air Force Base. Frid 30th July, Headed off to Mataranka for a couple of days for some more R & R. The Homestead Caravan Park was nearly full. Old, but nice, and a bit dusty. The thermal pool was great, we spent a couple of hours there, chatting with people. Sat 31st July, We had a swim in the morning then went for a drive up to Bitter Springs to check it out. The thermal pool is not as people friendly ... read more

DARWIN Mon 19th July, I took Pam into the Darwin Hospital casualty section to find what is the problem with her knee. After spending 5 hours there in total we were none the wiser as even the x-rays didn’t show any visible damage. The doctor thinks it may be a piece of bone or cartilage floating around. They suggested that it would be better to have it looked at in Melbourne as it would take too long to process here in Darwin. Tues 20th July, I took the car in to Hidden Valley Ford for it’s 45,000 service. All OK except that they reported that the rear suspension bushes have worn and cracked, needing replacement. It is a big job as the LPG tank has to be removed and then replaced after the repair. Also the ... read more

Sun 11th July, Hi there, we are back on air again. We spent most of the week sitting around in Wyndham, spending time chatting with our neighbours in the caravan park. Pam had the bejesus frightened out of her one morning as she was reading in her chair under a tree, when the local resident ass/mule snuck up behind her and nudged her shoulder, then laughed at her. I couldn’t stop laughing. Mon 12th July, Left early and headed for Kununurra to do some shopping and make some phone calls while we were in range of Telstra. It was still difficult to get a camp site there, so we continued on to Victoria River for the night. A nice little park at the roadhouse. We camped alongside a couple from Seaford in Melbourne. Small world isn’t ... read more

BROOME to WYNDHAM Mon 28th & Tues 29th June, We left Broome at 8-45 and headed off toward Fitzroy Crossing, as we had decided to give Derby a miss as from all reports there is not much to see due to the wharf area being closed off to tourists. Stopped off at Willara Bridge roadhouse for a break. (nice little camping ground there). We had lunch at the Ellendale roadside stop where we met up with some more Victorians. There can’t be many left over there. The Fitzroy River Lodge Park had been recommended to us, and we weren’t disappointed. It is a very nice, well laid out caravan park. We decided to stay for two nights to have a break. Swam each day in their ice cold pool, it was quite invigorating. Wed 30th June, ... read more

ODESSEY EXPEDITIONS CRUISE - MITCHELL PLATEAU to BROOME. Wednesday to Sunday Wed, 23rd June, We woke up to see one of the Paspaly Pearl farms accomodation barges moored in the same inlet as us. Off at 6-30 and cruised into Deception Bay where we went off in Homer into Butterfly Gorge where we walked along the gorge for about 1 km to a swimming hole at the end. Great area. In Cambden Sound off Hall and Prior Points we spotted two small whales breeching in the distance. Unfortunately one of our passengers became ill and arrangements were made to airlift her out by floatplane to the Broome hospital. As it turned out it was not life threatening. Thank goodness. After that we cruised around Raft Point and went in Homer to the beach to climb a ... read more

ODESSEY EXPEDITIONS CRUISE - MITCHELL PLATEAU to BROOME. Saturday to Tuesday Sat, 19th June, We slept in our van at the Odessey Expeditions depot last night and we were able to leave the car and caravan there for the duration of the cruise. A taxi arrived at 8-00am to take us to the airport for our flight up to the Mitchell Plateau. The 2.1/2 hour flight in a five passenger Cessna 210 was a bit slow but the view of the Kimberly’s from 9500 feet was quite spectacular even if it was a little too hazy to take decent photographs. After landing at the airstrip we then were taken over the Mitchell Falls by helicopter on the way to land on the beach at Naturalist Island to meet up with Odessey. The Odyssey is a 24 ... read more

BROOME 6th to 18th JUNE 6th to 18th June, We had a very relaxing time at Cable Beach Caravan Park, meeting up with people we had met along the way, those we met here and also meeting one of my bowling mates from Blue Hills who has been coming here for the past 11 years. The caravan sites were quite large and under trees, compared with many we have encountered so far. Ours was only 50 metres from the pool and amenities block. Very convenient. Broome itself is quite spread out and it is necessary to catch a bus or take the car out to go anywhere. We went into town a few times shopping and sightseeing. The weekend market was good as was the Pearl Lugger Museum in Chinatown. We went to the open air ... read more

Friday 18th June, Hi everyone, we have been veging out in Broome since my last entry and tomorow we are off on our cruise through the Buccaneer Archepalego until the 27th. I will update the Broome and cruise details after that date as we will be out of telstra range until then. It's been really tough with the daily temperatures 30 plus every day, forcing us to go swimming nearly every day. Oh what a life. Lots of love, Doug & Pam Brough... read more

TOM PRICE TO BROOME Wednesday 2nd June, we had 420km to go today so we left early. Some of the scenery of the Mungaroo Range were just as good as the Hamersley Range on the way up. After lunch we got held up for about half an hour, with a very large, ( 9 mtrs high and 15 mtrs wide ) mining rig section being delivered by road to one of the mines. There were 4 trucks in total in the convoy. We had been told to stay at the Black Rock caravan park in Sth Hedland, but it turned out to be the pits. dirty, run down, and full of mining workers. I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy. Thursday 3rd June, on the trip from Sth Hedland to 80 Mile Beach, we had ... read more
