Hello, This trip began when our couch surfing group posted a notice saying there would be a trip to Oman in the coming weekend. I had really wanted to go so I secured my spot in someone's 4X4 and gladly over packed my bags (yes...I will admit...I do it all the time). We met at the usual place, the big Carrefour on Airport road and once we piled all our stuff in we were off! We made it through the multiple stops you have to make at the border but thank god we were not searched. Everyone's trucks where piled high with stuff. I have to say that Oman was one of the most beautiful and interesting countries I have been to. The people are hard-working and very friendly. They actually are the waiters and store ... read more

Hello, Okay...so you're all dying to know if I was able to make it on stage...the answer is yes! And without vomiting! With a little help from Smirnoff I was successful in not falling flat on my face! After the first show, we were all like old pros dancing and singing, running around getting makeup on, changing our clothes as fast as humanly possible. I can tell you I was exhausted with 7 shows one day after the other and two days having a matinee and and evening...I was pooped out tired! This certainly is something you have to feel a passion for because it sucks all your time and energy away from everything else. I'm glad I did it...don't know if I will ever do it again but you never know! See you all very ... read more

Hello, Okay so I squeezed one last trip into my year before I left. Alicia and I found really cheap tickets on-line and I knew that I could stay with Pascale's relatives instead of paying for a hotel for which I was very grateful. Our adventure began when we were entering the lobby of the airport. It was 1 a.m. and we were exhausted. Some guy yells out taxi. Now I made several stupid decisions on this trip and this was my first. I said sure to his seemingly kind question. He quoted me at 120$ US to Tripoli which I knew was not the right amount. I had informed myself about the amount beforehand. He tried to sell me a bunch of bologne about it being a long trip and yada yada. I said no ... read more

Hello everyone, Well the countdown is on till I return home on June 22nd...Can't wait! There is nothing like being away to appreciate the return all the more. I thought I would send some pictures about our rehearsal for the play. The theatre is just amazing...there is an orchestra pit that can be lowered and there is a part of the stage that turns. This is really out of the box for me...I have discovered that I still love to sing in a choir only...I despise dancing. I chose to dance on the stairs with the uncoordinated group! I'll forget everything anyways. This is my first and last time in musical theatre. The process is amazing though...the curtains have to be organized just right with appropriate weights that have to be adjusted...the lighting of course must ... read more

Hi, So I know that everyone is dying to know what HH has sent me recently. He is as eloquent as always...I got this short, simple, classy message...in case I didn't understand his meaning the first time: how r y? can i have sex with u i like u. Ewwww! So I let him have it (gave him heck I mean), problem is he probably does not understand the nuances of the english language and the words "asshole" and "pervert" may be above his understanding. Anyways, on to more pleasant things....This weekend our choral group participated in the Abu Dhabi Festival Week and we performed at several hotels over the weekend. We did not act anything out but we did sing a few songs from the musical. It is official...I am the lady with the babies ... read more

Hi everyone, Okay so sometimes I have to really think before I write something...Is this blog worthy? And when I got an email from this guy I DEFINITELY felt it was worthy! Some guys here from certain places (I will not mention any places so as not to offend) are really pushy whether it be because they want to marry a western woman for a visa OR they think western women are easy. Take this guy for instance...his name is Hamada Hamada...no! I am not using a fake name to hide his identity...THAT IS HIS NAME! Why a parent would want to call their child by the same first name as the last is mind boggling! Oh how I wish I could post a picture of HH but alas I have none. So he started sending ... read more

Hello everyone, Where to begin? ...Istanbul is absolutely fabulous! Go there if you can...the history practically falls at your feet with every step. We stayed at the funniest little hotel called Avicenna in the old part of Istanbul. It was this maze of narrow corridors and outdoor walkways just to get to your room. The guy at the desk had all the information we needed and did not mind helping us even though he must have repeated the same information again and again. Our room...which was tiny had two beds.....an inch apart!! And they were single beds to boot. So funny! We absolutely loved the weather...you could actually breath fresh air and we felt cool rain falling...something not felt since back in Canada. It was absolute heaven! Everywhere there was to go was within 10 to ... read more

Hi everyone, Well I am here to report another interesting thing I did (okay not really but I am pretending it is!). I went kayaking in the mangroves of Abu Dhabi and afterwards a bunch of couch surfers (Abu Dhabi group) met up to go camping in the Liwa desert. The kayaking, which I have never done before was pretty good. Amanda was my kayak partner and I told her right from the start...expect us to tip over. But after thinking about it, I forced myself to stay afloat as...let's face it...Jaws could be lurking. If anyone was to be eaten during that outing...it would have been me. You never know...it could happen! Anyway, some people did tip over...mainly because Romain was pushing them in. It was really cool to see all the small crabs and ... read more

Hey everyone, Well here at school there have been some exciting things going on! The premiere of Alberta came and we sang "Oh Canada" ...how original but perhaps he got a thrill from hearing it from kids so afar away? It was funny...I think he thought he was going into Taliban country because he had this huge entourage of guards. Apparently some unknown politician, even from most of Canada, needs to be extra cautious... My student who originally lives in Alberta went up to him with her mother to say hi and get her picture taken with him. All the photographers that were there started to take pictures and it made it in the newspapers in Alberta...not sure if it was in any other provinces paper? About a week later, we had this cool event at ... read more

Hello, Well I would have to say the highlight of our visit together was the great city tour of Dubai. It was great to be driven around to see things as Dubai's roads are somewhat confusing. The signs may indicate the way at the beginning but they don't always follow through all the way to the end. I personally loved seeing the old outdoor souk near the dhow ferry pick up. It was full of character and interesting items as well as people. I actually saw this camel quilt that I want to buy...I got him down to half price but let's face it I'm still paying too much. Included in the tour was a dhow cruise. We saw many interesting buildings along the way including one of Dubai's first iconic buildings built by Carlos Ott ... read more
