I so enjoyed your blog to Brittany. It sounded like you were happy driving a small camper and you
ate well. You are super adventurers. I will tell Tom about your trip at dinner tonight.
I've just started Following you as I'm interested in walkiing Hadrian's Wall in the near future... I don't plan to walk sea to sea, as I want to avoid the cities. Are there accommodations at 10 mile intervals? I find that walking more than that per day results in blisters and other foot and leg problems just as you've experienced. Is there a guidebook that you would recommend? Last year I walked the Camino de Santiago and I leave in a month to walk the St. Olavsleden from the Swedish border to Trondheim.
Hadrian wall path by Henry steadman seems to be the main book we have seen upon the trail. There are random inns Throughout the walk that I didn't see when booking. We looked at companies to book the trip and looked to see where they stayed to figure out what towns and an itinerary. I really do believe 10 miles a day is the way to go. Heddon on the wall to greenshead is the most beautiful stretch that also has the most wall. I would suggest looking for an England B and B registry to get all the inns. So many of them don't have an online presence. I walked by so many inns that online I never saw. Make sure you do stay at the lanercost b&b. Book them now! They fill up quick. The hike is more beautiful than we imagined but unfortunately harder than we though too. If we didn't have bad feet I'm sure we wouldn't think it was as difficult. Enjoy your trip as we have.
Last day I see nothing wrong with lamb for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if necessary. It sounds like this adventure was a great one too. We are glad you were safe too. Safe flight, hopefully you have a day or two before you start the grind again. Ral misses you!
Topkapi Palace Erin, can you replicate any of the desserts, or the crispy lamb kebab .......sounds good. Are you ready for your Breast Cancer Walk after all your walking in Istambul.....I knew Boo would find an English Pub for a beer..... Was it one you had had before or Turkish.....enjoy your last day! Dad
Day 2 food tour If you like lamb and cheese, this would be a good tour; luckily I do. Waiting 3 hours for a sandwich, it had better be good. How's the Pepto doing, especially when restrooms aren't always available. You 2 are good adventures!
Awesome Blog Loved your blog. You write extremely well and we relived some of our adventures in Thailand and Cambodia through your blog. Keep exploring the world--as we know you will. We agree with everything you mentioned as "world travelers."
I love the humidity Sweat, bugs, and Durian flesh.....what else would anyone want....lol
Sounds like the food was pretty good this trip. When was the last time you spent so much time either in a pool or the Ocean. I think you will sleep like babies on your flight home......safe journey...love mom and dad!
Best day! Sounded like you enjoyed this day more than others....tour guides make a difference. What's better: Thai lobster or Maine....yes, the Thai is sweeter, but tenderness counts too.....enjoy Ankor Wat.......love mom and dad
Great Blog Have been there 3 times, 2002, 2004, 2006 and again this Oct-Dec. Flying into Shanghai, next Burma, next Bangkok to Sinagapore. Loved every trip. 70+ years old. You have the greatest attitudes. Enjoy your trip.
RE: Breakfast and beaches.... Tummy has been fine this trip with no Pepto required. All of the food is cooked so piping hot and we have stuck with places that are crowded with locals and other folks. All of the ice here is made from filtered water and if you stick with bottled for drinking you're fine. Most of the backpackers are European or Australian, as are 98% of the tourists. Americans are not as common here.
Thanks so much! We do the blog for friends and family, and most of all to capture our memories, but are so glad to hear that you enjoyed as well! We look forward to following your travels and hopefully we can learn from one another!
Breakfast and beaches...... Bacon and eggs, please. Fried rice and noddles instead. Ok, I can live with this. European beach ware, I see....that works. Luxury is not the same, it's all in the needs, but a shower always works. What nationalities were most of the backpackers. Is English acceptable there to get by with.....continue your adventures. Any stomach issues.....any jet lag, or will that hit when you get home.....be safe, love mom and dad!
Hello Matt and Erin, We've discovered your blog today and have enjoyed your writing and sense of humor. Love those $10 meals...the joys of Asia. Glad you are diving into the local fish and other delicacies. Eager to read more.
Beachside eats All the food sounds great; fried fish, etc.....hopefully you pre-conditioned your stomach; peptones......how is their beer and wine. Thought you might have eaten monkey, similar to the guinea pigs in Macho Picho. Have fun, be safe......love mom and dad
Together since 1999, we have shared a passion for traveling and seeing the world since day one. We have been so fortunate to visit the countries that we have. Each experience has changed our lives in a little way. We have developed such an appreciation for culture, art, food, language, and beauty. We look forward to many more years of travel!
