Close of my big adventure

On this trip I have learned two things about myself number one I am a strong woman. Mother nature threw everything she had at me hours on end and for days on end. I withstood the physical test and began again the next day with excitement. I could have never dreamed up the things I was able to be a part of. The wildlife historical places whimsical palaces mountains lakes and rock formations w

Well we are here and yep it is warm. We did not find the Rallymeisters so had no idea where we were to set so we opted for the Holiday Inn. Showers washing clothes air conditioning and a pool were too tempting to pass up as the fairgrounds had not yet opened to rally goers. The ride this morning was great Last relaxing cool read air conditioned night for a while as all rooms in his town a

On the way to Bloomsburg

We left the Bavarian Lodge this morning and traveled down the road to Bronner39s Christmas Wonderland. This would be a must see for a Christmas Fanatic. Imagine a WalMart Super Store or a Meiers or a Canadian tire for that fact and fill it with every Christmas geehaw imaginable and you have Bronner39s..Temps were increasing and it soon became rather warm. Road construction in rain and cool

A day thru Michigan

Hwy 2 was a great ride that followed the contour of Lake Michigan. Cool and sunny no electrics hooked up as we headed to I75. First we had to cross a fun bridge called the Mackinaw which is grated in the middle with concrete on each outside lane. I knew I would be fine because I had crossed a metal grate bridge in the Yukon in pouring rain. Well this was a looong bridge. The concrete lane was cl

We left Grand Rapids this am under a sunny and cool sky and headed to Duluth. After a stop at Aerostiitch HQ we headed for Wisconsin. We had lunch at the Breakwater Cafe in Ashland WI which has a great view of Lake Superior.. Highway 2 offers some spectacular views.Traveling across the UP was great as Zumo took us on back roads. We stopped at the Terrace Bay Inn between Escanaba and Gladstone

Another sunny day and great travel. I planned to stop in Winnipeg but the Zumo sent me on a short cut which really was one. So motored on to the border and found the items Deb wanted at the duty free shop in Emerson. I really love it when something works out unexpectedly.North Dakota39s speed limit is 75 on the Istate but drops to 30 when resurfacing occurs and it WAS occuring . Got into Min

We left this morning in SUNSHINE Four lane road and sunshine we didn39t know how to act. I didn39t have to sing the rain songs. You know Raindrops keep falling on my head Green eyes crying in the rain and Who39ll stop the rain. Okay so you listen to ipod I sing very loud. The thing I love about travelling on a bike is that people always come and talk to you. We meet all kinds of peo

Onward thru Canada towards Bloomsburg

Left the Holiday Inn this AM in you guessed it rain and 12 C or 54 F. Not exactly balmy but acceptable. Stopped in Spruce Grove at a Home Depot for Duck Tape. Deb39s boots were taking on water like the Titanic so I fashioned some silver Michael Jackson look alike boots that did the trick. On down the Yellowhead highway towards Saskatoon we went in search of a sunny sky. We met a fellow trav

Left Ft. St.John in the rain after a delightful stay at the Super 8. Had to pry Deb out of the spa robe and the huge kingsize bed.. I discovered it was not the Gerbings jacket but rather the controller so replaced with my controller. 5 km from our hotel road construction reared its ugly head AGAIN. It lasted for 30 km with grooved payment to go with the rain. Stopped in Dawson Creek for the mand

Total miles today 384.. Not a great day as far as scenery as most of the day was consumed by rain. We packed up in the dry but that only lasted about 20 minutes.Saw some wildlife a large moose and several bear and a couple of caribou .Met Steven from Vancouver who was traveling across Canada by bicycle for cancer research. My destination was Dawson Creek but we stopped short in Ft. St John. It wa

We really are in an obscure but breathtaking place called Muncho Lake. This is a rustic Northern Rockies Lodge which is a haven for sportsmen of all types. This morning we awoke to blue I mean really blueskies. On the road in 60 sunny weather it was perfect UNTIL we stopped in Watson Lake for lunch. Of course there were dark clouds the direction we were heading so we just kept our rain gear on

Leaving Alaska

I forgot to mention yesterday about visiting the North Pole. Yes there is a North Pole AK but Santa was at the lake. It was the ultimate Christmas tourist trap and I loved every minute of it. Charlie walked around saying Bah Humbug but he helped me find just the right ornament for our granddaughters. Today we left Tok in rain and cold. Hit some horrid road construction or destruction more like

Well we have been on the road 16 days now. I am not scaring small children yet but I am close. We had to take a holiday today because of Charlie39s rear tire problem. He will get a new one tomorrow and off we go to Canada again. Today we went to a pipeline viewing area and learned a lot about the Alaska pipeline. I still think they should paint the exposed pipe to keep it from sabotage. We fou

Back to Fairbanks

Last evening we decided to forgo the 19.95 buffet and cook on the patio of the Inn. Backpacker meals have become rather advanced in ease of use and taste. We arose this AM to darkening skys and the threat of rain. Mother Nature did not disappoint. us. Left Coldfoot on the paved road. Yes there is some pavement on the Dalton but in reality the dirtgravel is much better. UNLESS you mix in rain.

Charlie took my tire off and had a new one mounted at the Trail39s end BMW shop. We then headed to Arctic Circle on a clear blue sky and white cloud day We haven39t had many of these so we enjoyed it. It did get rather warm and I do prefer being colder but NO RAIN...On the Dalton Hwy we saw a wolf cross in front of us and then down the road a HUGE moose. The good thing about Moose is they

A day off from riding and time to change the oil in the bikes and a new tire for Deb39s. The new tire will have to be tomorrow as the shop was booked solid today. They had no help for the key problem and no extra lock cylinder to fit the gas cap so the ignition key could be left untouched. Went to WalMart to purchase oil and then discovered I had left the 2 filters at home. Back to the Harley

We woke up to rain and 42 degrees. Nice hearty breakfast lumberjack style and on to Fairbanks. Long road no wildlife to see because they have more sense than to be out in the cold rain as we were Road repair seemed to be continuous. Waiting in line for the pilot car and then going verrry slowly behind RVs made us anxious to get moving. Why do the 4 wheel and big vehicles go so slowAre they afra

Mileage today 470 trip total 4211Started day with no rain but just a tease. Had nice breakfast at Kathy39s Cafe and visited the Sign Post Forrest before leaving Watson Lake. The Big Horn Inn had WiFi but very slow so no post and the same for Haines Junction. No wildlife just rain rough roads and mountains with cloud cover. Stopped in Whitehorse in search of SealSox for Deb or new boots. Als

Rough Day

Today was by far the worst. It started out with a lovely breakfast at the Glacier Inn in HyderAK. We left a dollar bill on the wall to continue the tradition started in 1927.They even served fresh fruit. I have not had fresh fruit since I left Jonesboro. I ask for fruit and I get canned fruit cocktail in heavy syrup.Turned on to the Casshier Hwy. Then it started to rain and I discovered my boot
