Random question of the day. Have you ever seen a fat horse? I woke up pondering this. Answers on a postcard. We took Rico to see downtown in the morning. The boys took endless pictures of puddles and pieces of wood, while I took the boring touristy ones. We had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and Jon managed to bag himself a free piece of cheesecake by flirting with the waiter (well actually they gave him lunch with mushrooms which he had specifically asked not to have) We took Rico to the airport for his flight back to Vegas in the afternoon and then did our weekly shop and chores. 7th May I was proud to burn 630 calories in an hour and ten mins on the treadmill this morning. I then did a bit of ... read more

3rd May - I went swimming and made friends with a 5 year old...we are on the same level 4th May Jon took an early lunch so he could drive to the airport to collect his friend Rico, who was visiting for the weekend, while on a trip to Vegas. After getting very lost, we eventually found Rico and took him back to Jons apartment, where he promptly fell asleep for a few hours (while Jon went back to work). When he woke, we had a few beers and chatted until Jon came home. Dinner at Ted's Montana Grill (awesome salmon) 5th May We got up at 7.30am and were in the IHOP for a hearty breakfast by 8.15am. Food drives boys. We then drove to The Rocky Mountain National Park for a day of hiking ... read more

May 2nd 2012

Nothing to report on 1st May. On 2nd, I went to the gym and for a long walk afterwards, so felt really good. I did this as I knew I would be going out for drinks and dinner in the evening. Jon and I headed to Baker Street pub (an English style pub) and met up with a group of his workmates and boss. A few drinks later, most of us movedon to have dinner at a posh seafood restaurant - McCormick & Schmidt. Everything was ridiculously expensive, so I thought I may as well go for a pricier expensive dish. I had Walleye (which is as unappetising as it sounds!) It was a plain, tasteless white fish and in this case, was in a mustard sauce and covered in crushed pretzels. One of Jons colleagues ... read more

Well things may be looking up on the job front. I had a reply from MaxFund - they have a new volunteer coordinator who has asked that I call in and speak to her about fast tracking me through the process. I contacted the American Lung Association this morning and am hopeful about that one, as I wrote a much better cover letter! It seems that all I am doing is eating at the moment...we went out for Mexican food in Stapleton with Erin, Adam, Aaron, Linda and Jorge on Friday and drank prickly pear and bluberry Margaritas (weird combination). It was lovely to see everyone again and catch up. On Saturday, Jon and I went to Daniels Park (in a gorgeous area called Castle Pines). The park is high up and we went to try ... read more

Since I last wrote, I have not heard from Cahoots (no surprise there) and so have approached MaxFund (an animal shelter) instead, as working with animals is something else I'd like to do while out here.. I am waiting to hear from them. I am also going to write to the American Lung Association (random I know) and see if I can volunteer in their marketing department. They are local and if I manage to get work there, I wont have to pay to commute. Money is a concern, as yet again I have no job to return to in the UK and I kerep hearing about a double dip recession. I have got a bit of a chesty thing which came on the night before last. I felt really rough and sorry for myself yesterday ... read more

I havent done anything of interest since my family left on Saturday evening, which is why I havent written anything. I moped all of Saturday evening and Sunday and then pulled myself together on Monday and went to the gym. I am applying for an internship at Cahoots Marketing and Advertising Agency and have to write a cover letter saying why I am right for the internship. I have never had so much trouble writing a letter! The company are experts in cause related marketing - (branding, comms, PR for charities) and I think that is exactly what I want to do, so I really want this internship. I spent pretty much all day Monday researching them and preparing my letter. I then spent until 1pm on Tuesday re-writing the letter, sent it and then realised ... read more

April 21st 2012

Today is the last day of our amaing family road trip. We have seen so much in 16 days; travelled 1800 miles through five states and met so many weird and wonderful people. I am quite teary and being a proper girl, as my family fly home tonight. There was a morning swim (apart from me, as I got really burnt yestrday while wandering around Garden of the Gods) and wanted to keep out of the sun. There was more shopping - and e got one more trip to TJ Maxx in and thn we had a picnic in a local park, which was really nice. I spent the afternoon sitting on mums case, which we eventually managd to close and then it was off to the airport all too soon. There were tears from me, ... read more

We went to one of my favourite places today. Garden of the Gods (in Colorado Springs) is a public park, which is popular with climbers, due to the huge red rock formations. I love it, as it is beautiful and peaceful. We went for a walk round the park (looking out for rattle snakes, which we all wanted to see) and then Jon took us to Manitou Springs in El Paso County (a small native American town at the base of Pikes Peak). It is a lovely town - heaped in history. It feels like you have stepped back in time as you wander around. It is also quite hippy. We passed a group of people sitting on benches, just looking at each other, silently. A sign said they were 'existing' in silence with one another, ... read more

We had an early morning swim, mooched andd then got the light rail downtown. After shopping, we had cheesecake and a mojito in the Cheesecake Factory, befor heading to Lime to meet Bridget (my boss from Make a Wish last year). After a catch up and a few margaritas, the lack of sleep was catching up with people, so we headed home. Zoe, Jon and I attempted to go out gain to the Tavern (a nice local bar near Jon's place), but they wouldnt accept Zoe's British driving license as ID, so we ended up going back to Jon's and watching Paranormal Activity 3 (which I thought was the best of the three). I have to say that it was Jon who screamed and spilt beer on is face - not me.... read more

We all seem to be suffering delayed jet lag! We were all sleeping so well for the first week and now keep waking up at 3am... We headed to Red Rocks today, which is as beautiful as I remember. I will be back there to see The Fray in May. We then went to Boulder and had a wander down Pearl Street and got a few pressies for all the lovely friends back home who have looked after dad while we have been away. On the way back to Jon's we stopped off at Park Meadows to see the puppies at The Pedigree Shop...it is really unfair on the pups and i dont agree with the way they look after them, but it is the only place I know of where you can play with puppies ... read more
