Back in California! Okay, I didn't post yesterday. I was just too beat and feeling really weird, so I skipped it. So this is two days' worth. Wednesday morning got up kinda late (no surprise) and left Amarillo, Texas. Stopped off to check out the 72 ounce steak. The deal with this thing is that if you can eat it in an hour, it's free. It's a LOT of meat. You have to eat it at a special table in front of everyone at the restaurant and they have a timer by you and even a little barf bucket...you know, just in case. The last person to do it was a 120 pound woman! Nice! The Weather Channel was predicting that this was going to be a bad driving day for me. All I saw along ... read more

Hey everyone, Not feeling so hot this morning, so this will be a short one. (Even after sleeping, feeling achy, fatigued and light-headed.) Drove a lonnng time yesterday to get out to Amarillo. Trying to beat this snowstorm that is going to hit New Mexico. Yesterday drove through a large part of Missouri that had been hit by an ice storm. Quite pretty, actually. All of the trees, buildings, grass - everything - was covered in ice, so the whole countryside appeared to be silver. Okay, gotta go. Keep your fingers crossed for a smooth drive for me. No photos today. Miles driven yesterday - 780 miles Total miles driven - 4082 miles Cheapest gas seen yesterday - $2.75 unleaded... read more

The following is a commentary by the good people of St. Louis, Missouri. This is not a paid advertisement. "There was a man, brave and heroic, and he took a journey through many perils. He came out of the West and forded raging rivers, blazing deserts, visited long-time comrades-in-arms, fought off bandits and loved many, many women. Upon reaching his wintry destination of Saint Louis, he spent several joyous days among friends he considered as family, exploring the countryside and experiencing new adventures. But alas! The days of fun came to an end, and the brave, noble giant of a man had to return to his homeland in the West. And so he left the winter wonderland...and looked danger in the face and laughed as he began the final stage of his wonderful journey. That man.....that ... read more

Man, is it freezing out here! A little storm rolled in and with it came freezing rain, snow and wind. The temperature was listed at 13 degrees, but with the wind chill it was listed at 5 degrees. Not exactly weather to try out your favorite swimsuit. Yesterday was cold and windy, but at least the sun was out. In fact, yesterday we went to Ozzie's, Ozzie Smith's restaurant on a nicer area of town (for those of you who do not know, Ozzie Smith is a Hall of Famer major league ballplayer who played with the Cardinals). It was nice to get out of the cold and get some good food and check out the waitresses. They were hot. So anyway, today we started out by going to the Ameristar Casino to hit their buffet. ... read more

Today was a driving day. Over the river and through the woods to Illinois we go. First stop? The world-famous Fast Eddie's. Fast Eddie's is a restaurant/bar in the tiny town of Alton, Illinois - right off the Mississippi River. It has been in business since 1921 when Anheuser Busch himself opened it up. The ownership changed hands until a man named Eddie Sholar bought it in 1981. The place exploded in popularity and he hasn't changed the prices on the food on the menu since he took over. The place sell over 4,000 half-barrels of beer a year and thousands of cases of beer as well. You have to get there before it opens and stand in line or you may not get a table. By the time we got there, we were pretty far ... read more

Today was another good day. Although I was woken up at 3:00 AM by people talking and microwaving stuff and was tired most of the morning and early afternoon, we still all had a good time. Started off with some grubbin' Greek food, and then headed out to Forrest Park to check out their history museum. St. Louis was the site for one of the World Fairs. back when they used to have them, and of course Charles Lindbergh, first to make a solo trans-Atlantic flight, was from St. Louis, so they were hightlights of the museum. I was mostly impressed that there was another museum that was not only open, but free of charge! very cool. After the museum, we headed downtown to Union Station. It is an old train station that was converted into ... read more

You know, it's amazing when you are in a city that not only has its attractions open to everyone, but also doesn't charge for it! Wow! But first things first. Started out with a breakfast at the one and only Bob Evans (sorry Mr. Meade, I forgot to take a photo for you). Nothing like an omelette to start out your day! Frank had to work, so Paul, Matt, Thom and I went to the Science Museum in Forrest Park. For those of you who do not know, Forrest Park is the second-largest metropolitan park in the United State, behind only New York's Central Park. There are quite a few museums, trails, riverways to boat on, things to see and do there. We spent a large chunk of the afternoon in the Science Museum. They had ... read more

So I left Dallas and my buddy Ronn behind yesterday and headed out to St. Louis area, particularly to O’Fallon, Missouri. This meant driving through the rest of Texas, Oklahoma, and most of Missouri. That was a LOT of driving for one day, but after driving through West Texas it wouldn’t be a problem. So I figured I would try to get one good night’s sleep before I left. Went to bed around 1 AM (that is much better than what I have been averaging, believe me). Opened the window a few inches because there was a light breeze that was semi-warm blowing in, and it felt good. Fell asleep almost instantly, but around 2:30 AM was woken up by some rumbling noises. Figured it was just some semi trucks as Ronn’s aunt and uncle live ... read more

You know what? Don't come to Dallas. It isn't fun to visit. Today Ronn and I tried to make it fun and interesting. We tried, but Dallas got in the way. First thing was a trip to the Ft. Worth Science and Planetarium. I haven't been to a planetarium since I was a little kid, and I was really looking forward to it. We checked the website to make sure everything was cool. They had an update that said because of the Texas Stock Show (a cow show), parking might be limited. Okay, no problem. We head down there using Ronn's GPS. It says we are where we are supposed to be, but nothing that looks like a science center or planetarium. Ask the man at the visitor center - and he says most of it ... read more

Okay, today Dallas was open. I guess it was my mistake thinking that all the museums would stay open later than 5PM. Today Ronn and I drove back to Dallas to see the Dallas World Aquarium. It was pretty muggy inside. There were some pretty cool things to see inside. I love aquariums anyway. Of course, it wasn't even close to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but not bad at all for being in the middle of Texas. One thing that you won't see in MBA but they had here is refreshments stands with beer and hard alcohol. No joke! Look at my photo if you don't believe me! Refreshment Stand Attendant: Yes, sir, what can I get for you? Man: How about a Sparky the Sea Turtle Koolaid Slushy for the kid and a gin and ... read more
