I took the Luckystar Bus (15 bucks one way) from Boston to NYC. It was quite a comfy 4 hr ride. I arrived Thursday April 3rd around 8pm and took a cab to Elizabeth’s place, who was so kind to give me shelter :P The next day I was eager to go exploring. My first stop was Grand Central Station and then the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. Unfortunately you can’t really get close to the statue anymore, the only option was taking a walk around which was somewhat impressive. I also had a look at Ellis Island, which served [View Full Entry]

Unfortunately my trip is coming to an end :( After a 6 day stopover in Germany, I boarded the plane to Boston on March 27. It took me about 2 hours to get past all the immigration and security controls and I was eventually greeted by Chris and Caleb who were so kind to pick me up from the airport. Once I dropped my bags at Chris’s place we went to a couple of bars where I met most of my friends from studying at Bond. I spent most of the next day fighting the jetlag (and the hangover haha). Borneo

Asia » Malaysia » Sabah » Mount Kinabalu
On the 10th I left Penang and took a plane to Kota Kinabalu. As soon as I got out of the airport I made my way towards Mt.Kinabalu NP. (I needed a cab ride to the city and a minibus from there) Accommodation inside the NP is handled by a private agency and I was calling them a couple of days before asking for vacancies and ended up with a rude lady telling me to come back in 3 months :) As I got to the headquarters there were no beds available so I checked into a place about 2k down [View Full Entry]

Malaysia

 Asia » Malaysia
Malaysia is separated into two regions — Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo (see other entry), I’ve actually done very little in this part of Malaysia: KL was my base for exploring Asia (just because it's Air Asia's main hub). I've spend about 3 days in KL, which was way too much. All I managed to do is going up the Petronas Towers, which was quite disappointing as I wasted half a day just to get to the sky bridge(that’s as high as you get, only about 190m amsl). I went up the Menara Tower as well, which had a lot better [View Full Entry]

Cambodia

 Asia » Cambodia » North » Angkor
On the 29.2 I had an early start, leaving my Hostel in KL around 3:30am to catch my flight to Siam Reap. It took forever to get a visa and to get through immigration but I eventually made it and was picked up by Kim, a driver from Earthwalkers(my hotel of choice for the first night). I ended up staying at Earthwalkers for my first night and at the Le Meridien for the rest of my stay with the latter providing a significant upgrade in living standards, but that’s a different story :P As soon as I got to Earthwalkers I [View Full Entry]

After Fiji I went back to Australia (18.2) and stayed at Paul's apartment in the Reserve, where I previously stored all my stuff. It felt good catching up with a lot of people and i got to play tennis twice :) On the 21.2 i took a cab to the Gold Coast Airport and checked in for my 8 hr flight to Kuala Lumpur. I was flying with AirAisa, which meant that you had to pay extra for drinks and food, plus there was no entertainment whatsoever, then again it was by far the cheapest option. Upon arrival in KL, I [View Full Entry]

Fiji

Oceania » Fiji » Yasawa Islands
Shortly before I left Christchruch I bought a new camera, the cheapest Sony that I could find as I wanted to continue using my memory stick. My flight to Nadi was delayed for about 3 hrs so I didn’t get there until 8pm in the evening. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see anything of nadi. It was very humid and hot so I immediately got a preview of what to expect in Fiji. I left Nadi on the yasawa flyer in the morning, heading for Nanuya Lailai Island. After 6 hrs on the boat I finally got to the Sunrise Resort, [View Full Entry]

Unfortunately my time in NZ has come to an end :( I'm currently in Kaikoura but I’m flying out of Christchurch tomorrow (to Fiji - yay!) Just a quick summary of what happened last week: On Feb1 it rained all day in Queenstown, so we played shithead all day, I finally sorted out my Fiji trip and I went to Fergburger twice (they are the shit btw!) As there was nothing else to do we went out pretty early, first to Altitude bar and later on to the world bar, where I had too many teapots :P Feb2: we had to [View Full Entry]

I left Wellington on the 25th heading for the south island. The weather was reasonably good so I decided to go skydiving. It was a fantastic experience jumping out of a plane at 13000ft :D If I had the cash I'd definitely do it again. We stayed at Old McDonalds Farm, which is very close to the Abel Tasman NP, for 2 nights. I booked a full day sailing trip for the 26th, we sailed along the coast of Abel Tasman and I got badly sun burnt even though I was using sunscreen. It was a great trip though, we pretty [View Full Entry]

Kia ora - welcome :) Just a quick summary what happened since I left Australia. 14.1: I arrived in Auckland on the 14.1 around noon after having a lot of trouble with the NZ immigration. In a nutshell I didn't have a visa for my return trip to Australia, so NZ wouldn’t let me in. However it all got sorted out so I finally went to my hostel, base backpackers in fort street (very nice hostel btw). I didn’t do anything, except having a couple of drinks with Dan, an English bloke, whom I met at the hostel. 15.1: I took [View Full Entry]
