benny1855 - Benjamin Atkins

Benjamin Atkins This trip is my first time travelling alone... after touring New Zealand and China & Hong Kong with friends.

Let's hope I come home and don't decide that I'm having such a good time I'm staying! I have 38 days with a rucksack and a bank card... 2 months wage and a smile to get by on! Fingers crossed!

I'm planning on going from Sydney up to Cairns (East Coast of Oz) before flying back via Alice Springs to Uluru (Ayers Rock).

Few things in mind - not many in stone... let's see which way the wind blows! :-)

I have had the most amazing time in Oz... and these are the best 5 things that I did: * Visit the Great Barrier Reef * Climb Uluru & visit Karta Juta (Ayers Rock & Olgas) * Climb the Harbour Bridge * Attend a show at the Opera House * 4 wheel driving & sandboarding on Fraser Island The best city I visited was Melbourne. It was so diverse and unique, you could have spent hours wandering down all the little side streets visiting the specialist pubs and shops and then St Kilda and the Great Ocean Road were on the [View Full Entry]

Final day... Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney
As my final day in Oz I decided to finally do some shopping for a few gifts. I headed off down to The Rocks to wander around the markets and shops and also to take in the views from the top of the Harbour Bridge Pylon viewing platform. After climbing the bridge I was given a free voucher to go up one of the pylons. The views of the opera house, harbour and city skyline were fab and the best thing was that I was able to take my camera with me this time. You are able to walk all the [View Full Entry]

We are family!
We are family!
I've got the 'Three Sisters' with me!
Cricket is a word that is not mentioned in Sydney at this moment in time. It was fantastic to be one of 7 Englishmen on a tour today with an Aussie guide. Bless. We zoomed out of Sydney and over to the Blue Mountains today. The Blue Mountains National Park is bigger than Luxembourg! So we didn't have chance to see all of it funnily enough! We arrived in to our first stop for a toilet break - and our Dutch contingent of the trip discovered a mummy, daddy and joey grey kangaroo in the bushes! "Hey... how you doin'?!" was [View Full Entry]

Opera! Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Opera House
With rain pouring in Sydney today it was easy to spot the tourists - who, like myself, were walking around the business centre of the city in shorts. I started the day with a spot of shopping. Well - when I say started the day, it was more like afternoon. I slept in until 11am this morning. I think I needed chance to recover from a hectic weekend. By the time I had showered and eaten breakfast and was ready to rock and roll - it was the afternoon! I went on the hunt for bits and bobs. Since I've been [View Full Entry]

End of the weekend. Such a shame. My next weekend will be a British one. And a bank holiday weekend at that - which means a wet one! The joys! Today reached top temperatures of just over 25 degrees in Sydneys winter. There were people with hats and scarfs on everywhere... ha. Unfortunately I had to say goodbye to Leia and Iain today - and their friend MP! They really made these last few days fly-by. Not having to be lost in my own thoughts for the last 72 hours has just made the time fly. I'm very grateful and cant [View Full Entry]

Pucker Up!
Pucker Up!
As I looked over the road as we got off the ferry at Manly I was quite shocked. But at least you don't have to worry about having enough money left for the taxi home after a night out!
No - I'm not talking about me, it's where I've been today. I took a ferry to Manly with Leia and Iain for the day. But first let me tell you about last night... It's not bad enough that I have to sleep in a smelly room... or as I found out last night, a room with 3 people snoring... I can just about put up with the mess that you see in the photos, as this is how I normally live in MY room (the place where only I go ) when I'm at HOME. However that's because only I [View Full Entry]

Surf's Up!

Manly Beach...

Today is a good day for all of you Blog-jamin-ites in the UK. This time next week you will be starting a 3-day weekend. It also means I will be back in the UK! Oh... sniffle. Amazing views and groovy animals from Taronga Zoo today. I met up this morning with Leia and her boyfriend Iain. I met Leia about 5 years ago now in New Zealand. She got in touch via Facebook when she realised I was coming to Oz and said she'd meet up! And she kept her word! We had a really good day! To get to the [View Full Entry]

Today I finally surfaced in time for my free breakfast! Packed my bag and headed off to Alice Spring Airport! Finally got to Sydney at 5pm and checked in to the YHA. Room stinks! I think one of the guys has been living here for a year and somethings died! Cooked some dinner and uploaded all my Uluru pics. Bed time now. Sooo soo tired! Off to the zoo tomorrow with Leah who I met in New Zealand. Should be a fun day! Trumpets for now! [View Full Entry]

The Rock Oceania » Australia » Northern Territory » Uluru
* 52 photo's go over a few pages! * Scroll through at bottom * Early... yes early. Up before 5am this morning! It was The Rock day! Ayers Rock. Uluru! I got picked up at 5:45am in a large coach. At first my heart sank. Big coaches usually mean not very personal and we don't care service. This was far from it though. I went on a trip by Emu Run Tours, and with the distance we travelled I know why we had such a big coach. Especially with the night driving and nearly being killed... I was met by our [View Full Entry]

Cairns
Cairns
Off to Alice Springs
Aliens have been spotted in the Northern Territory of Australia more than anywhere else in the world per person living here. I was greeted at Alice Spring airport by a U.S. Airforce Globetrotter. The USA own land at Pine Gap where they have a bunker built in to the sand. The most secretive and heaviest guarded place in Oz - so I am told. It's purpose? To look at satellites! Hmmm.... Alice Springs reminded me of the stereo-typical country town you would link to Texas or something. Where everybody knows everybody else. A very small airport. I landed in AS and [View Full Entry]
