We stayed one night in a small, not very friendly town called Chittradurga..or something along those lines. The people stared without smilling, pretty much constantly and it gets pretty depressing after a while as we've got used to smiling happy Indians of the south. We had to stop there though as it was about 2 hours after sunset and it's not safe to drive in the dark, there are no lights on the highways and most roads and lots of pot holes and animals that seem to jump out of thin air! We headed off at about midday for Hampi, it's not so hot in land around Bangalore so driving at midday is barable. We got to Hospet, which is the next town to Hampi and it seemed a bit mental, as we drove closer to ... read more

So after struggling to get to grips with the one way system here and the narrow lanes of the bazaar that look excactly the same, we decided to get a rickshaw to meet our friends we met in Goa. We were already running late by one hour due to getting lost coming back to the hotel, so we could get cleaned up before going out. First of all we met up with Namita and Ritu. Since we were a bit stressed out by our lack of sense of direction they decided to take us to a reasonably quiet place to have some nice food. Reasonable quiet by there standards was still pretty loud as their music of choice was metal, the heavier the better! After having a really nice steak, Priya came and joined us, who ... read more

It took about an hour by bike to get to the park, then we had to pay a safari jeep about a tenner to drive us around for 20 minutes, but we were really excited about seeing elephants, so we thought it would be worth it. We got pretty bounced and banged around in this jeep and we managed to see some big red squirrel things, a few spotted deer and an elephants bum dissapearing into the bushes, pretty dissapointed but we knew it was completly down to luck and the people 3 days before us had seen tigers and familys of elephants so the animal spotting luck had all been used up. We set off early from Mananthavadi to drive to Mysore, a big city full of things left from the days of the Raj. ... read more

we got to Mangalore around 5pm after a bit of a mad drive and a few close calls again with coaches and buses, we now both think we will never get on a bus in India again after seeing how wreckless they are and after seeing a bus on the side of the road completely crushed after a crash, its a reality check and a half. Mangalore is pretty cool with wide streets, pretty clean..in Indian terms and full of lots of nice people. There' shopping malls here and supermarkets, which is weird and not a beggar or stray animal in sight. On our first day we went to get a snack and started talking to a guy named Sidher. He was a nice man, rich looking and plump and told us how to get to ... read more

So after dropping Luke off at the station and spending the day in Gokarna we headed back to Om Beach which is the closest you can get to Paradise Beach by road, usually we just get a boat for the next part. This time we decided, stupidly, to take the one hour cliff walk just as the sun had gone down. Its pretty sketchy at the best of times but when its dark its pretty dangerous. We managed to do the first part ok, weaving in land slightly. The last section is over some cliffs and rocks. Luckily half way round there is a shack, cleverly, selling torchs for 100 rupees bargain we would of paid a lot more at this time!! So we eventually made it back to Paradise sweating our nuts off and we ... read more

Our first night on paradise beach was spent in a small room, one of three in a hut made out of woven palm tree leaves. It had no bed, just a roll mat, which we wrapped our mossy net around and the door was just a door shaped woven palm tree leaf propped infront of the entrance and attached with string and that was it! The beach consists of several huts like this and about 5 cafes and the only light at night is from the 3 cafes which have solar panels to give them power, the rest is candel light and torches and a bonfire that is lit at the central cafe everynight. This fire is the gathering point where everyone comes at night to play drums, digeredooos, guitars and other strange eastern instruments, its ... read more

Hi folks. We set off for Gokarna and didn't make it, we got stuck on this highway dust road which happened to be a truck root to and from a quarry. If you like lorries you would have died and gone to heaven I have never ever seen so many trucks over loaded with bricks in my life and never will again! They also bombed down the wrong way trying to over take he que of trucks and come hurteling towards you, forcing you off the road and then only to then find they couldn't pull back in when another truck came the other way so. It was just gridlocked going both ways with trucks facing all ways on both side and some trying to go round on the dirt. We decided to do this and ... read more

Got some brilliant news a few days ago that my brother Jamey had got some work making inflatables for a festival in Goa, about 5 beachs down from where we are! The festival was called sunburn, the biggest dance festival in Asai and both me and russ had seen big advertising boards with it on everywhere, so when jamey said we could both get 2 v.i.p tickets we were super excited! So we packed up and said goodbye to our beloved Arambol and headed off on the bike. Had one last day in the animal hospital ( waaaaaaaiiill!!!) and said goodbye to my little friends dribbles and ears! It was pretty wobbely with all our bags bungy tied to the sides!but it was and nice easy journey down. Found jamey half asleep in Candolim ( middle ... read more

Happy christmas folks! Christmas eve was when we finally got a bit excited abou christmas, a few fireworks were going off on the beach and a few Indian kids and clearly Australian tourists had on christmas hats! We went to meet our friends Wendy, Ami, kate and danny at their local hangout to join them for christmas drinks and boy were they having christmas drinks indeed! they had started at 12 noon so were pretty jolly and stoned, so with a bit of convincing we managed to get one of the staff of the bar to fit 6 of us in a tiny tiny car and drive down to the surf club, down a mad bumpy road listening to goan political hindu reggae! All the floors of the club were mosaic and it had no walls ... read more

Well, first i must tell you all about this beauty of a motorbike that we have hired. Its a Royal Enfield Bullet 350. They were originally built in england during the 1950s but they still make them out here to the original spec. So they are big, heavy and very loud!! The one we have got is only a couple of months old and she has been named Emily! We have hired her for 6 weeks for a little over 100 quid and the plan is basically to drive down and around the south west coast of India. The bike has got some big paniers on the sides so we can just about fit all of our luggage onto it. We will be leaving just after christmas! Just around the headland from the main beach where ... read more
