Out on the town
Out on the town
Out at La Boom, mostly laughing at all the teenage grinding that was going on
We are on the last leg of our journey, only 5 more days and we are heading home. We have been baking in the sun trying to prove we were actually on a beach during this vacation. We are putting up some pictures from the last few weeks, and also a few of us wearing the costumes from carnival in Brazil. This will be our last entry.. next week our cell phones will be working again. Thanks for tagging along, we´ve had a great trip, hope you enjoy the pictures. See you all soon, tenielle and jolene [View Full Entry]

Having fun at cocobongo

We have been 2 busy girls in the past few days. We spent a few more days in Playa del Carmen diving in the cenotes, which are the fresh water caverns by the myan ruins. It was super cool, we felt like some sort of mystery solvers looking for buried treasure with our torches searching through the caves. Needless to say, the calm waters made it alot more enjoyable, no more sea sickness. We then took the ferry to Cozumel, and joined some friends who had a fishing boat on a trip to Cancun. The water was too rough to actually [View Full Entry]

So, we have made it to our last country..our poor passports have done their work. We have been in Playa del Carmen since Tuesday, we came here first to meet up with Lane and Tamara. While they were busy getting massages on the beach, we were cockroach hunting in our gross hotel room. We literally unhooked the TV and moved all the furniture into the hallways to get rid of them...i am getting really fierce with a broom! Besides the crappy accomodation, which is what we get in Mexico during semana santa, we have been having a great time. We can [View Full Entry]

So, we are now in Manuel Antonio, and we are in heaven. We are staying for free at an amazing resort with 3 cliff side pools, 3 different restaurants, and as they say "still more monkeys than people". Our friend, Allan, whom we met in Panama owns most of the property here, and put us up in one of his "worker" cabins, which is nicer than any hotel we have been in. Last night, we met the owner of KFC and Quiznos in all of central america, and the guy who makes all the rum in Argentina, so our luck hasn't [View Full Entry]

So, we are now in Tamarindo, and finally got to sit and watch a beautiful pacific sunset on the beach today. We had an amazing time at the hot springs, we went to Talaron, so thanks girlies for telling us which one to go to. And Kendra, despite your warnings, we managed to get pretty drunk, Jolene had to take a time out in the cold pools for a couple of hours. We survived another bus day on 2 hours of sleep, but it was worth it, the pacific side is just as beautiful as the carribean. I ran into some [View Full Entry]

Eating breakfast
Eating breakfast
Just a typical breakfast of bread and cocoa tea on the Bolivian tour
So, we are cooling off in Monteverde. We are staying in Santa Elena, where 4 days earlier there was a huge bank robbery and 9 people died.. but its okay, there is a fresh coat of paint on the bank and its open again for buisness, never mind all the yellow tape and men with machine guns guarding the place. We went on the canopy tour zip lines and suspension bridges. It was sooooooo much fun, pretty scary at first, but we did quite well at holding our cool. Tomorrow we are off to La Fortuna to go to the hot [View Full Entry]

Our ride
Laguna Verde
Hot Springs

Just an update to let everyone know what we have been up to...and the answer is alot of nothing. Actually, alot has happened. We spent 3 nights in the Boca islands on the carribean side of Panama, and Dejan, you were right, these were the best beaches we have seen. On the 3rd day, after I went for a long walk in the heat of the day, i came back quite tired and thirsty. Thinking that this combination wasn't too deadly, I ran uptown to get some water, and low and behold I tripped on the 3 little stairs leading into [View Full Entry]

So we finally arrived in Panama City yesterday, and actually slept the entire day, exhausted from the all nighter in the airport. We went to the causeway and the Miraflores locks today in the Panama Canal. It was so cool to finally figure out how the locks worked, and we got to see 2 huge vessels pass through them. We were in amazement, despite the fact that the locks were neither pretty to look at, or shiny and new. We are heading to an island tomorrow to snorkel and relax on the beach, and to get those tan lines back! Pictures [View Full Entry]

So, after recovering from the 4 day jeep trek, we took our last long bus ride to Puno, Peru. We rode on the local bus another 20 hours, and it was very interesting. To start, once again, no airconditioning and no window in our seat. AND the people who did have windows kept closing them, even though sweat continued to pour down their faces and the women were wearing at least 4 alpaca knit sweaters. We stayed 2 days in Puno, and went to visit the floating island (called the Uros)It was so crazy, these people live on a bed of [View Full Entry]

The Uyuni Salt Lakes
The Uyuni Salt Lakes
In the rainy season, the salt lakes are covered in water, producing hallucinogenic mirror images
So, after4 days with 7 people packed into a jeep over the plains of Bolivia..we are back in the civilization of Chile. Bolivia had amazing landscape, but the book was not kidding when they described it as barren and frigid. We don´t mean to undermine the hardcore backpackers, but we tried it, and we are just not that hardcore. Picture the extreme simple life: paris and nicole meet bolivia. Oh....where to start 1. Vehicle... a 1978 toyota SUV. 7 people crammed into it, plus the driver. The smells and the amount of dirt felt like i was driving in the grain [View Full Entry]
