So, after the late late night in Chiang Rai, we caught a bus to Chang Kong on the Mekong. Loved the bus journey, i think because i was still a little merry. Proper old bus on extremely bumpy roads, was flying all over the show havin a great time... Got to Chang Kong and had to get some cash to pay for the Laos Visa, and the only cash point was a fair distance away.. Crossed the Mekong on a longtail boat, only took 2 minutes so it was strange to be in a new country. Passed immigration with no worries, [View Full Entry]

Hello Laos
Drunk Finnish guy locked out of his hotel

After the 16 or so hour journey to Bangkok, we kipped for a few hours and got ready for the overnight train to Chiang Mai. As it was Feb 19th, i'd be on the train as it turned to my birthday, but not to fear, i heard these trains get a little lively. We got on at 6pm & immediately ordered 2 large Singha beers and pre-ordered our brekkers for the morning.. By 8pm everyone else on the train had pulled down their beds and turned in for the night..... We soldiered on, few more large beers, but by 10 were [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Ko Samui after a short boat trip from Ko Tao, and we headed straight for Chaweng, the livliest place on the island.. After a bit of searching we found a guesthouse offering a room for half price, it was still a bit pricey, but huge....... After some exploring, we went out that night. Very busy place, very brits abroad, lots of McDonalds, Irish Pubs, English pubs etc., bit of a letdown after Ko Tao. Still, had a decent first night, and realised our hotel was right in the middle of the red light district, so we were popular [View Full Entry]

The trip to Ko Tao was a shocker, more to do with the fact i hadn't slept and was still in a state from the Full Moon Party....... Was only a couple of hours, but felt much longer. We arrived and jumped in the back of a pick up truck which raced us at great speed to the most popular resort, lots of backpackers.... Again, accommodation was scarce, a lot of people had the same idea to get off Ko Pha-Ngan early and relax on Ko Tao. Eventually found a room and that was me done for the day, holed myself [View Full Entry]

Deceided to arrive on Ko Pha-Ngan a few days before the full moon party, and its a good job we did, chaos. We caught this HUGE ferry over, and these held a lot of people, quite a few a day, so the island was packed. Took us a while to find accomodation, i was offered a Thai families shed for 3 pound a night, and i was tempted, but on closer inspection it really was just a shed...... A good while later i stumbled across an Isreali guest house, great location, i thought i had no chance, but he had a [View Full Entry]

After our 3 hours searching in the baking heat for somewhere to stay in Ko Lanta, we ended up booking into a decent place, too expensive, but we were knackered! Ko Lanta is a bizarre place, everything is really hard to find, really hard....... Quick shower, and we tried to find all the bars.... again, not easy. We did find a bar with a Paul Gadd lookalike playing guitar, or was it just a lookalike, amused us anyway..... Found a Swedish sports bar (there are defo more Swedes on the Thai Islands than in Sweden, they're everywhere, all the signs are [View Full Entry]

Caught a longtail boat over to Railay, and it was just amazing. The boat in was probably the best part. Its like approaching a James Bond Villains lair..... Clear Blue sea, huge cliffs & rocks and amazing beaches..... Stunning!!! It basically split into 2 main tourist parts, West & East Beach. West is where the super rich go, some places were nearly 2 grand a night, and east is where the backpackers go!! So we headed East, only 5 mins walk, and found a nice wooden room high up over looking the coast. It did have the worlds biggest wasp in [View Full Entry]

Back on the mainland and you can see how expensive the islands really are. I've vastly overspent recently, but hopefully, after doing the islands on the other side, we'll save money by sticking inland! We got a really nice room in Krabi for 5 pound for the both of us. Krabi is a bit of a shopping mecca, so again Roy set off hoping to find those elusive cables.......... again, no joy, not that he wants to watch his films tho....... Not much to do in Krabi so we just wandered for a while and ended up at the night markets. [View Full Entry]

One night in Railay and it was another longtail boat to Ao Nang. Really nice place, great beach, but on the mainland, so a lot more to do.... Got a really good front with loads of bars and shops.... Roy lost the cables to his laptop & speakers a couple of weeks ago, so he trawled the shops looking for replacements. Apparently the ones he needs are very specific so nowhere has them. Looks like he's carrying a useless laptop round a bit further. I bought some shorts here and a T-Shirt (almost a babyape personalised one). I was warned not [View Full Entry]

Pah, i've written this once & my pc crashed, so if this is rubbish, thats why, not me being lazy... Got the boat from Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands. Nice big cruiser, sat up on deck with a chilled Singha in the sun. Stunning place, and we spent the first night in a bamboo hut right on the beach surrounded by wild monkeys!!!! The night life on Phi Phi is very lively, and i'm not one to say no to a beer now & then.... First night we spent in a lot of the bars beating swedes & canadians at [View Full Entry]
