Not too long a drive to Bonito, well, not compared to some we've had. We arrived early evening, checked in, and a few of us decided to walk into town, as we were told it was a party place. Hmmmmmmm, there was one bar pumping out music, lights & dry ice. On closer inspection there was no-one there, so we moved on to a restaurant down the road. Very bizarre place Bonito, every restaurant sells all meals for 2 people, if you want it for one, you pay 65% of the price displayed. Bit daft, but we worked it out. Decent [View Full Entry]

It's been a while....... Rio was so long ago, so i'll try to remember what i did there. It's an amazing place, even better then i thought it would be! I arrived in the early evening, and decided against public transport, and got a taxi to my hostel, just off Copacabana Beach. The driver couldn't find it, and basically wanted to dump me on the streets of Rio in the dark with all my stuff, no chance. I sat there and refused to move until he found the right place. As it was Friday i really wanted to go out to [View Full Entry]

So, from Rio i joined onto an organised 21 day overland tour ending in Buenos Aires. The tour had 20 people on, and you paid upfront so didn't have to worry about booking hostels or buses, as it was all in, as was most of the food! The vehicle is a huge mercedes truck converted to carry people and supplies, pretty cool thing actually. I arrived to the first meeting 40 minutes late as i was held up at the Favela tour (not held up, but caught in traffic). Anyway, i walked into a group of people i hoped it wouldn't [View Full Entry]

Another early start to get to the Pantanal. We'd covered most of the distance the day before, so we set off really early and arrived at lunch time. The ranch was really nice, and even had a pool with waterfall.....bags were swiftly dumped and i headed straight for it. After that was an all you can eat lunch with tons of steak, all different cuts carved as you liked. Feeling much better we headed to the jetty for a boat trip and to try our hands at Piranha fishing. It started really well, was getting loads of bites, then about 6 [View Full Entry]

Just about made it to Sao Paulo... The hostel forgot to book my taxi, so when it finally arrived i had 20 minutes to get to the bus station, and it normally takes 30! After some crazy speeding by the driver, i made it with 2 mins to spare, but didn't have chance to buy any food or drink, so bit of a duff journey as i was starving! Arrived in Sao Paulo at 7am, and found my hostel, which was pretty cool! I walked miles to the centre, and immediately got lost. My sense of direction is shocking, and Sao [View Full Entry]

So, my longest bus journey so far on the trip, and it was great. South Americans know how to do their buses. Real luxury this one, huge seat, virtually reclined into a full bed, and free hot & cold drinks and food, plus a free buffet along the way at a restaurant. Finally arrived in Florianopolis, Brazil late afternoon, and shared a taxi with an Irish couple to a hostel which had been recommended by a few people. Hands down the best place i've stayed so far, and probably won't be topped. It was a big house with gardens, pool, lots [View Full Entry]

So, a quick pitstop in Colonia was all that was needed, so a 3 hour bus journey to Montevideo (eventually after the time mix up). We arrived at the hostel about 9.30 pm and grabbed some food and cooked a meal, washed down with some fine imported vodka. I was in a dorm of 8 & everyone was already asleep, so it was pitch black, which made getting ready to go out a nightmare, basically had to dress in reception, a treat for all concerned! We headed out just after midnight and found a really good bar, roughly translated as The [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Colonia in the evening. The boat docked and we all collected our bags, but realised you couldn't take certain foods in. We had a HUGE block of cheese which was about to be chucked by the non too happy looking Uruguayan customs! Not having that, so the 4 of us stood at customs and demolished a monster slab of cheese in about 40 seconds. Had the full on cheese sweats after that, but worth it! We walked out of the harbour into the darkness to be greeted by no taxi's which is really odd! Plodded about for a [View Full Entry]

Bout time i updated this really.... So another week in Buenos Aires. Different to the first as i'd decided to move to a different hostel, one a little quiter to encourage me to study harder, and not drink till 8am. And it worked, it was a hard week, staying in, or not going out till the morning is hard to do in Buenos Aires, really hard to do! The hostel itself was very nice, and i was lucky enough to get the best room in the place. It was called the dome, and was on the roof. Gorgeous place with good [View Full Entry]

My room

Made it safely to Buenos Aires on a really cool bus. I was booked into second class, which was a huge chair that reclined almost all the way back, 3 course meal, and drinks. I thought it was great, but there were 3 girls from the hostel i was in also travelling with me, and they were booked in first class. Only a few pound more, and christ it looked great. They basically had LazyBoy chairs each, big fat plush leather, i may opt for this next time! Not an awful lot to say about my first week here really. We [View Full Entry]
