Back in Egypt! Well, it's been three years since I landed at Cairo Airport and somehow found myself extending my four night stay to a one month tour of Egypt. Cairo is still all madness and heat! Mark and I booked a nice tour in an aircon minibus for the day of pyramids - I can't tell you what a difference it is sitting in luxury with our personal tourguide all to ourselves. This is as opposed to having a taxi driver stoned on hash, windows open with dirt and dust flying in, while trying to sell you a camel ride! [View Full Entry]

Well, it's seems forever since my last blog. Last I wrote we were in Meteora which was wonderful. From Meteora we headed back to Athens to finally mail our third bag to the states. Four times we lugged that damn thing to different post offices - Mark was very happy to see it go ;-) Luckily I had purchased a $50.00 (yes...$50.00!!!!) Lonely Planet from a bookstore that was kind enough to give me two big book boxes as the post office had no boxes for mailings. We packed up our tent, sleeping bags and two jackets plus misc. stuff and [View Full Entry]

Greetings! Mark and I are currently in Meteora waiting for a train back to Athens. After leaving Corfu we headed to Nafplio, a port city on the mainland of Greece, a base to which we would day trip to Mycenae to see the "ruins"...or as I like to call them...foundations and a couple of rocks. Admittedly Nafplio was a bit of a touristy town and we left as soon as we were able. In Athens we got two bunks in the "Dungeon" at Students and Travelers Inn...it was an airless, windowless room with 5 bunkbeds and lots of stinky shoes...but for [View Full Entry]

Well friends, it was a sad day leaving Pelekas Beach in Corfu. We camped at Gouvia Bay on the East Coast and then rented a car to tour the island since I have no faith in Mark's scooter skills (sorry darling). We drove to Sidari up North but too touristy and the beach wasn't as nice as some we had seen. We lucked upon Pelekas Beach on the West Coast of Corfu and fell in love! I've been to Thailand and India and I've seen amazing beaches but this beautiful sandy beach with it's crystal clear water ranks on the top...not [View Full Entry]

Well, my brand new toy will not allow me to upload my photos so I am stealing some off of Mark's iPod that we've taken while on the road :-) and I'll figure out how to get everyone my photos! I'm lazing about in Corfu right now...which is heaven after the 6 1/2 weeks of constant travel and inconsistant weather. Paris was amazing and the short time we had there was really great. We managed to see tons of art and then headed to Mont Saint Michele which is what started this travel bug of mine so many years ago. Of [View Full Entry]

So here I am in Rome, having passed through Venice and Florence and leaving in 30 minutes for Naples. I've been camping in a tent with Mark for two weeks straight and must say that I've done very well roughing it. I woke up a couple of nights ago wondering what I was doing on the road again. Travel is hard! It builds character...and after my last trip I would like to think that I would have enough character to last a lifetime. So why again? For me, travel is not escapism, it's a tool that expands the self. The [View Full Entry]

Hi All!!! So here I am in London! Mark and I managed to make it to LAX, check our bags and make it through security with no problem...however the minute we sat down at the boarding gate I felt my throat start to burn and then my head get hot. Really? Seriously? Are you kidding me...I'm sick? Now? I haven't even made it onto the plane yet!!! Well, much thanks to the school teachers that invented that airborne medication - I started downing the stuff like crazy along with Suzy Dyer's recommended Alka Seltzer cold and flu orange flavored meds. I [View Full Entry]

Packing Again So, it's been almost four months in this tiny room in Van Nuys - just me and my dog, my 3 roommates and the other two beasties roaming around. Rented the house, quit the job and now it's time to pack up. I think getting ready for an extended trip may in fact be much like childbirth - I do not remember the pain of packing up my entire household - only the amazing trip I had. I look forward to again re-living the beauty of waking up and not know what the day will bring. Normally it's up [View Full Entry]
