I am from the Forces and my profession gives me lot of opportunities to travel and see new places. I have been travelling since I was a kid, first with my parents, and then on my own. My area of expertise is Trip Planning & Budget Travel. I have done a number of Backpacking trips, some with my friends and few on my own. I love to see new places, meet new people & learn everything bout that place. I hate organized tours & package trips, I feel the true essence of travelling lies in experiencing that place with the locals, live like locals. I have covered almost the entire India, and few places abroad...but my quest has not ended, in fact my hunger for Travel keep increasing with each trip.

April 23rd 2012

After the exhilarating experience of Genting, we caught the Air Asia flight to a entirely contrasting locale – Langkawi, a laidback island with white sand beach fronting calm lagoons, where you can buy really cheap, really good ‘Duty-Free’ items to enjoy them on it’s beaches itself. The first sight of Langkawi from the aircraft was breathtaking, and we knew that we have chosen the right place as our last destination. The Holiday Villa Resort which was our home for next 2 days, was a 4-star beachfront resort with deckchairs under the palm trees perfect for stretching and snoozing on. After settling down in a well-equipped room with beautiful ocean views, we hit the beach just in time for the sunset. The orange sun sprinkled silver on the punchy ocean before slipping behind a tree island in ... read more

Here we were, after the too clean, too organized, too preservedSingapore, into one big melting pot of cultures –Malaysia. It has sparkling seas and pristine beaches, sprawling mountain ranges and mysterious caves, jungles, lakes and lagoons, the frenzy of sightseeing and shopping, and the ‘playground’ for rich and poor alike. Touring the country is cheap, safe, hassle-free and convenient. Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia’s bustling, lively, somewhat manic capital combines big-city energy with laid back little pockets. KL boasts of having the best of all worlds – a vibrant street life, a very busy nightlife, fabulous food, skyscrapers, mosques, and museums, all in one city. With a little of ‘Delhite’ haggling skills, I managed to get hold of a taxi to reach our hotel – Hotel Radius International. It was located right next to Bukit Bintang – the most ... read more

“Uniquely Singapore” - What makes this unique tourism tagline appropriate for this sunny island? It is a city, capital, state and nation, all encapsulated into a little red dot withinAsia. For visitors,Singaporeis an extraordinary destination with a constant sense of renewal, always something new to see, to buy, to taste, to experience. Apart from the world-class malls, iconic architect likeEsplanade,Singaporehas also shed its staid imageand now boasts a swinging nightlife. But behind the city’s gleaming face still beats a traditional heart, which is evident within ethnic enclaves such as Chinatown and Little India. After boarding Tiger Airways from India, when we finally landed at Changi Airport of Singapore, we thought we are within the main city itself, the Airport is like a mini-city, with shopping plaza, food courts, gardens & landscapes, and even small amusemen... read more

I finally decided to give a taste of my extensive Budget Travel Planning skills on “Shoe-String Budget” to my wife. The least cost effective option for this kind of ‘Dangerous Experiment’ with minimum risk factor turned out to beSouth East Asia. When we think ofSouth East Asia, it’s an enormous task to decide on exactly which countries to cover and which ones to be left out. After careful research on the subject, we decided on two countries very different from each other in all aspects –Singapore and Malaysia. Both these places emerged clear winners to host our budget gourmets. They are in our backyards (access is economical and convenient), first World (but cut-price), easy to navigate (using punctual and thrifty Metro System) and the accommodation was surprisingly reasonable (not to mention a friend’s place in Singapore). ... read more

The Nilgiris, because of its natural charm and pleasant climate, have always been an interesting destination. The name ‘Nilgiris’ means Blue Hills, may have come from the violet blossoms of ‘Kurinji’ flower which grows on the foot hills. This beautiful destination was one of our first trips together post-marriage when I was posted in NDA at Pune. I joined Deenaz in Hyderabad, and we set off for Coimbatore that very afternoon. We reached Coimbatore, and took a lovely taxi ride to Coonoor. The drive was absolutely gorgeous with us driving down narrow roads with hills on both sides often passing through beautiful lakes, lush green forests and vast stretches of tea estates. We stayed at a beautiful guest house of the Wellington Cantonment at Coonoor. Coonoor is a small town with unending estates of spice and ... read more

Unlike other cities where the railway station opens into the seedier part of downtown, replete with automobile fumes, litter & touts, Venice reveals herself in her full glory as soon as you enter the city. A city that’s sinking at an alarming rate of two & a half inches per decade has no time to be coy. Come. See. Fall in love. And fall in love you will. Everybody does, Venice really is very, very charming. A confusing array of narrow alleys which suddenly open up into little squares which in turn lead into narrower alleys…..so on & so forth. Getting lost is inevitable, so enjoy! And following you faithfully along your delightful journey is the silvery green Grand Canal, which divides the city into its main six sections. Once checking into our apartment in a ... read more

Switzerland - famous for its Chocolate, cheese & clocks; strait-laced bankers, big business & neutrality – the terms associated with this small, fiercely independent nation are likely implanted before you arrive. But beyond the stereotypes, you’ll encounter boundless adventure opportunities & some of the most exquisite natural beauty on the continent. Mountains & lakes, tinkling cowbells & alpine villages – this is a land of such breathtaking beauty it defies description. Our first excursion was to Europe’s largest waterfalls – Rhein Falls, before we reached the photogenic city of Lucerene. That day we explored the town a little, checked out few landmarks like Chapel Bridge & The Lion Monument and spent the evening by Lake Luzern. Next day morning we were off to the most-visited place in Switzerland – Mt Titlis. It is the fastest reachable ... read more

Austria is not just Arnold Schwarzenegger’s homeland, but it also attracts many visitors, who are either wooed by the historic treasures of the former Habsburg empire or by the sounds of Mozart & Strauss or by sparkling mountain vistas of Alps. Our first halt in Austria was Vienna – an architecturally rich city packed with galleries & museums. We were totally amused by the stunning architecture in almost every building of Vienna – be it St Stephens Cathedral, the Imperial Palace, the Museum Quarter, the City Hall or Schloss Schonbrunn. Our journey in Austria continued from Vienna to Innsbruck. Innsbruck lies in the valley of River Inn, scenically squeezed between the northern chain of the Alps & the Tuxer mountain range to the south. The first thing we did on reaching Innsbruck was to visit Swarovski ... read more

We spent the two days in the powerhouse of central Europe – Germany. It is an accessible, popular & fascinating tourist destination. For backpackers in particular, the central location, excellent transport & hostel infrastructures, and plentiful supplies of cheap beer, strong cocktails & cutting-edge music make this an essential port of call on any European trip. Our first halt in Germany was Cologne. The justly famous cathedral – Kolner Dom – dominates the cityscape, but it’s also worth visiting this lovely city for its interesting museums & vibrant nightlife. Beer in Cologne reigns supreme. The city has more than 20 local breweries, all producing a variety called Kolsch. So after exploring the old town, streets & museums of Cologne the whole day, we settled down on a riverside café for beer & sausage. Next day morning, ... read more

One of the best & fastest trains in Europe – the Thalys – takes you to Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Brussels is a calm, quiet & secretive city. It’s imposing 15th century central market square, Grand Place, tops the itinerary of sightseeing here. Of course, a visit to Brussels cannot be completed without visiting its national symbol –the Manneken Pis Fountain. Our Youth Hostel was beautifully located & we had a nice evening in its pub – the Back-packers Bar. Next day we were in Amsterdam – Europe’s ‘Magic Centre’. ‘God created the world but the Dutch created the Netherlands’ – its an old saying. The Netherlands isn’t the most budget-conscious option, but transport is efficient & well priced, the nightlife is pumping & the Dutch are most hospitable. Amsterdam is perfect for travellers, with ... read more
